One way is to have the part of the image you want transparent have be transparent in the browser before saving.
Then you should do as followed to save:
File, Export, GIF Optimizer. Then when the GIF optimizer window pops up click on the circle next to the words 'Existing Image or Layer Transparent' and then click save.

Or you could do this:
Fill the part of the image you want transparent with a color that is not part of the rest of the image. Like bright red or nion green. Then click: File, Export, GIF Optimizer. Then when the GIF Optimizer window pops up click on the circle next to the words ‘Areas that match this color’ and choose the color of the part of the image you want to be transparent and then save.

I hope that all makes sense. If not I might be able to clarify better.

I'm sorry if I confused you. wrote a tutorial and made it into a webpage. Here's the link:
http://happyvillage.tntgibson.com/Tem-t ... index.html

It will stay up until about a month from now. Then I will delete it. I hope it helps you. :)

I really don't see how it's that much different. Just make the parts you want to transparent and save as gif, making sure to preserve the transparency.
