There are a few things that I've been wondering how to do, and
I've tried to figure it out on my but, to not avail.
One is what I cal "The soft light" affect.
Like in this avvy by Arwen here: 
And then there's the "blur" affect like in this:
And then there's this one I've been wanting to do forever-Streams of light:

Yeah. I forgot to put that. I was going to edit the post yesterday
but my internet wasn't be cooperative.
Anyway, I use PS7. 
And what I mean to say before was the "streaky" blur affect that
doesn't totally ruin your pic. I've tried using motion blur on my pictures
to give them the affect, but it always ends up over bluring...:Z

what's that 'blur effect' that you said?
But the 'soft light' is:
1. Open your image
2. Go to Layer>>Duplicate Layer...
3. Go to Filter>>Blur>>Gaussian Blur... and set the radius to 3.0
4. And on your layers palette, where it says 'Normal', click the arrow and go to 'Overlay'.
5. If it's too strong, lower the opacity a little
The 'streaked light' effect is the same as above, but using 'Motion Blur...' instead of 'Gaussian Blur...', and set the radius to about 25.

^ I usually use "soft light" instead of overlay but I'll need to try that _________________

The blur affect...like, Kinda like in this banner that I found on the old forum:

Only so it doesn't blur the characters faces so much, and looks
more...neat, I guess.

well, for that, on my program at least, just merge all your layers, duplicate that layer. put a motion blur on it (however blurred you want it). then erase the blurred layer where you want it to look 'neat' and maybe lower the opacity of the blurred layer a bit. hope this helps! there's a full tutorial on www.magicbox.ti-fi.com  _________________

The soft light I used in that avvy was actually the diffuse glow effect. I'm not sure how to do it with PS though, since I used Photo Impact for it.

With PS, just go to Filters, Distort, then Diffuse Glow, and play with the settings 'till you get something you like On the side of your screen there are two little squares of color, the bottom one is the color your glow will be. So if it's... say... bright purple, then your pic will be bright purple-y. _________________ <center>
