I use Paint Shop Pro 9. I love it. Once you get the hang of it it is pretty simple and works great. I highly recommend it. :bounce:

I use Adobe Photoshop 7.0, but like everyone says, it IS expensive, and if you get bored with it, it can be a waste of money. However, it's easy to use, comes with a wide range of effects, you get a free easy-to-use animation program, and you have the advantage of being able to download lots of cool brushes from good PS sites such as The Fifth Muse and others.

I've never used PSP (any version), but my friend has it and I think it's a good program. Apparently it can get a bit annoying with text effects, but i guess once you've learnt how to do it, it'll get easier. You do get an animation program with it and are able to download plenty of brushes from different places, plus, you get the advantage of it being cheaper than PS.

What I'd suggest you do is start with PSP, then, if you want, move onto PS when you have enough money. You can end up using effects from both programs to get a really unique effect that very few people will have... anyway, it's up to you. Good luck! :)

I use Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and so far it's worked great for me. But I've never used any other program so I can't say if it's better than PSP or any others.

What I can say is that it's a great program and there's tons of great effects to use...so I'd recommend it but I see that it's the most expensive so if there's really that much of a price difference you might want to go with PSP because I doubt it's any worse as I've seen a lot of great graphics come out of it, and people have said that it's great.

Really, I think that it's whatever program that you start with that you become most comfortable with. People say "well I tried PSP and it was really confusing and it didn't work for me" or whatever when they've already gotten used to Photoshop or vice versa. Just go with one of them and I'm sure that it'll work out great :)

Well I haven't helped much at all lol but good luck with whatever you decide :)

Well...I recommend Paint Shop Pro (I use version 7) just because that's all I've used besides Photo Impact (which is pretty good but also lacking in a lot of areas). I'd love to try PhotoShop but the main issue for me is the price - I'm not about to shell out that kind of money when I can do most of the stuff I want with PSP.

OK, thanks! Is it an animation program then? Or just another image editor that comes with PS?

As far as I know it's just an animation program. At least it lets you make animations. :) PS itself is the image editor. :)
Image Ready can do most of the stuff PS does, as well as animations, but not everything. And Photoshop CS is just an updated version of 7, more stuff to play with :)

I don't know too much about the other programs, but I use PS7,
and I think it's pretty good. I'd recommend it. :)

Personally I love Photoshop! I have Photoshop 7.0, but there's that new version, which is like 300 dollars though...

I use photoshop 6.0 I love it, I need it, I cant live without it. I have tried Paint.net (Window's version of PS.) and like most things from windows... its crap. Like they say the first thing windows makes that doesnt suck is a vaccum cleaner!

So ya, Photoshop 6.0. Its my life source!

Photoshop elements is a great program! I have copies of paintshop pro 8 and photoshop cs, but I still tend to use photoshop elements more. I find it much better all round; it's easy to use and not really that different from the full version of photoshop. Highly reccomended, especially cos its so much cheaper than normal photoshop. ;)
