Post subject:  Gimp Help?

Can anyone help me out in GIMP? I'm pretty much a beginner, and though I caught onto some things quickly, others I'm having a difficult time figuring out.

*hopes* :lost:

I can help you out! I've been using GIMP for quite a while now, so I know quite a bit about it. *nods*

Oooh, thank you!

First off, how do I colorize? You know... deepen or tone down the color of a particular area?

Hmm..to colorize like you're talking about, I usually use one of the brushes, set the color to either white or black, depending on whether I want to lighten or darken the picture, and I set the 'Mode' of the brush to overlay. I'm not sure if that's exactly what you meant, but that's what I gathered.

Awesome, thanks!

And how does one cookie cut a person out? I mean, directly against the image?

The only way I know of that you could do that would be to use the lasso-looking selection tool. It's next to the elliptical select tool up on the very top row of the tools, and once you select that, you just trace around the person. It's rather difficult to do, however, and takes a lot of work.

Oooh, I see. One more question for tonight, and then I'll stop bugging you. :P
How do I mesh/blend two pictures?

You're not bugging me.

Blending two pictures is actually pretty easy, all things considered. One technique is to put the two pictures together on the banner(or whatever graphic you're working on), and have one of the pictures overlaying the other slightly. Then, you just take the eraser and erase the part that overlaps the other picture, and it does a fair job of blending.

Another technique is using the feathered edges effect on the selection tools, or even painting the edges of the two pictures with the teardrop-shaped blur tool.

Thank you so much for helping me! I am very grateful to you.

I encountered another problem this morning. Say I've got three pictures (layers) side by side. And I want to draw a line straight through 'em. How do I select all three, so I can work with them simultaneously?

Post subject:

What you need to do is paste the three pictures into the banner, and once you've positioned them right, go to select=all.

Post subject:

You mean copy/paste, and don't do "add another layer"?

Author:  Raven Sparrow [ September 26th, 2006, 11:14 am ]
Post subject:

Well, you could actually use either of those techniques to put the pictures in, they both work.

Well, I'm having problems; because every time I go to do that, it won't let me do ANYTHING! the only thing it lets me work with is the filters! Any idea why?

Okay, I got the above^ problem fixed. And now I ran into a new glitch. *SIGH*

Whenever I try to add text, the whole thing shuts down. Help?

Post subject:

*facedesk* Sorry about not responding..been busy..but that glitch is actually pretty common, it happens to me all the time. That's usually a sign that you need to restart your computer, for one reason or another. Restarting always fixes it.

Thanks so much for your help Raven; you'll never know how much I appreciate it.

And sadly, restarting doesn't help me. the "Error" box always comes up, and shuts it all down.
