Is there a way to get clips from the movies into an avatar without using that thing which comes with photo-shop. Does anyone know of any softwars - preferably a free download - which will do the same thing?

The GIMP can animate automatically, and can be got here at www.gimp.org.uk. You can animate on that by putting the slides on different layers, then saving it as a GIF. Its pretty tedious, but free, and looks v. cool afterwards.
