As per request of Silvery. Me making mah icons.
So I'm going to start with this one:
:and pretty much all of the same "set" will be basically the same steps.
To start with, I get a ton of my pictures (including this one) from Rawr Caps.
So, get the picture, put on 100x100, size, duplicate.
Set duplicate to screen 100%.
Sharpen the top layer.
Make a new fill layer with brown, set to exclusion.
Make a new channel mixer layer.
Reduce the red and blue under the red channel by around 10.
Selective Color. I have fun with this. HIGH SATURATION!
Because there is little blue and mucho other colors, I do a lot of high numbers to bring the blue out. This isn't always the case.
To make it more contrasted, add a new levels layer. Bring the shadow (left side) in to about 17, and the light (right) in til it looks good enough.
To finish, I like to add a little speck of "light glare." Brush a spot of white onto it and do a gaussion blur.
