Post subject:  ~*Glitter Name Tutorial*~

Hi,

Many people have asked me how I make my glitter names, so here is a tutorial I’ve created. Paint Shop Pr 9 (with Animation Shop 3) is what this tutorial uses.

Preparation:

Obviously to make glitter names you’ll need glitter fills. You can find tons of free ones if you search the web. Glitters will come in all sizes and colors. Just save the glitter fill on your computer. For this tutorial, I’ll be using this glitter fill:

Image

Step 1:

Okay to begin with you’ll need to open Animation Shop 3, which came with PSP 9. Click File>Open and find your glitter fill. You’ll notice when you’ve opened your fill that is has been broken up into multiple frames. How many frames you have depends on how complicated your fill was. Two or three frames are the average but there could be more. Click each frame and individually copy and paste each as a separate New Animation. Save each New Animation onto your computer under names like orangeglitter1, orangeglitter2, ect (in the order they were in the original animation)

Step 2:

Open PSP 9 and click File>New. Make the dimensions large enough to have room to work with, Raster Layer, and make sure to click Transparent.
Open all of the files you saved in Step 1.

Step 3:

Go to the tools area and click on Text. Choose the font, size, ect that you want. Go to materials palette. There you should see two boxes where you can choose Foreground and Background properties. If you want to have an outlined glitter name then click on the Foreground box and choose the color you want as the outline. If you don’t want an outline do the same thing here as in the background. In the Background box go under the Pattern tab, and under that, you should find the fills you will be using. Open the first one (orangeglitter1).

Step 4:

Click onto the Raster layer you made in Step 2. It will open your Text box. Type in the name you want, and Apply.

Copy this name and paste as a New Image.

Step 5:

Now do the same thing you did in Step 3 & 4, but with the each of the rest of the fills.

Step 6:

Now we are going back to Animation Shop. Copy each of the names you made in Step 4-5 and paste them into Animation Shop.

Step 7:

In Animation Shop open File>New. Make the dimensions the same as the individual frames you just pasted in, and make sure you click Transparent.

Step 8:

Copy first glitter name and Paste After Current Frame in the new animation you made in Step 7. Take the next name and Paste After Current Frame. Do this until all the names are in there. Now delete the empty box that is at the very beginning. The empty box was necessary to make sure the names are automatically positioned in the same place every time, otherwise the name would jump.

Step 9:

You have pretty much finished now. Click View>Animation to see how your animation looks then Save as a gif file.

Woot! You are done!

It takes a couple tries, but it gets easier to make these glitter names with practice. Note this is a very basic way to make them. As you make them, you will find many shortcuts and new ways to make your graphic look better. It would be too difficult to explain all the shortcuts you can take to cut down on time and effort here. Once you've got the basic idea how the names are made- experiment!

If you have any question about how to make these glitter names, ask here. :)

Thanks for the tutorial Shieldmaiden! It's awesome!

I tried making a glittername following your tutorial, but I have a few questions.

How do I add a glitter image (say a butterfly) to the glittername (like the horses you added on yours)?

2. How do I get rid of the small white border that appears when I host an image? (see example underneath) Thanks for your help! :)

Here's one shortcut that might help with the problem- instead of copying the names straight into Animation, save each one individually as a png file. Then in Animation Shop click Animation Wizard>same size as first image>transparent>scale frames to fit>play indefinitly and 10> (add images you want)>Finish

If that doesn't do it, when you go to save your name for the final time- Save>Animation Quality>
Under Colors make sure it says Optamized Octree and Error disfusion, under Partial Transperancy make sure it says Use Error Dissfusion Dither andUse Existing Image Color at 100% Opacity.

Hope one of those ways fixes it. :)

Oh, and adding the image- like the horses is so scarily complicated (what you're seeing is a weeks worth of work) that I'm going to try and find an easier way to do it before I try and explain how I did it :)

Thanks so much! :)

The second method worked for me.

But out of curiosity, how do you stop the images from bouncing if I were to use the shortcut that you gave?

hmmm, I've never had any problems with it bouncing before. If you save each of the names you made in PSP as seperate images, it should auto crop them to the exact same size.

Every time I paste or open a glitter fill in Animation Shop, it only opens as one frame :( Do you have any ideas of what's wrong?

Well, I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't open..... Maybe check in your Preference area to see if anything there might be preventing it.

it does bounce a bit... then again, it's my first try! :D thank you so much!

I think the reason it won't open right is because it's a .gif image and not one of the 'supported file types' or whatever...
When you go to File >> Preferences >> and File Associations (I think it is), and it lists all the different file types (.ani ect.) is .gif one of them on yours?
