I like Tyr. He's brave. He's tough, but not unkind. He reminds me of Tulkus, from the Silmirillion.

I just don't like being official I guess... but I still have some days off, so let's see how much posting I'll be able to do here. By the way Eru, do you do the English or the... umm Norse spelling of the names? Nauriel Rochnur wrote: And I didn't even get to tell the story where Thor is a cross dresser.
Hilarious!! Sorry, but this one had me laugh!! And it really is a shame you didn't get to it!! I mean most mythologies have some kind of a Ragnarok or Armageddon, but the God of Thunder dressed up as a woman... That's something new! *chuckles*
(Nauriel, I haven't seen you around for a while... glad to have you back!)

Eä, no problem I sometimes do the Swedish spelling, sometimes the Icelandic spelling (which would be the same as the Norse) and sometimes the English spelling

Aw I really like the story of Thor dressing as a woman. lol
Odin was known to appear as a woman also.
That's a shame you had to rush your presentation Nauriel. Especially at Ragnarok.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the activity here and welcome to all the new members and lurkers alike lol

That's great story, but some scholors say that it may have been made up by christian monks to make fun of the Norse gods.
I know I have a hilarious picture of Thor somewhere... must find...

There were many things made up by Christian scholars to discredit most Pagan beliefs. However..seeing as how the rules state certain things. I can't really discuss it too much.
I'm a proud Asatruar, but I am not one who just takes everything as written. Albeit a modern one.

It could be that Norse people have a sence of humor. Have you noticed, that compared to most other major mythologies, the Norse gods and goddesses are a lot kinder, and closer to the people? I have noticed that, as I studied other mythologies. Norse is my favorite, by far.

that is how it seemed to me too, i havent read that many tales and stories but in the ones i did read the Gods and Goddesses interacted with their people in ways that many of the other Gods ect, in other mythologies didn't...

Welcome timtimtimtim, of course you may join We're very happy to have ya here
We have always been more liberal and relaxed about everything up here in Scandinavia - something you can definitely tell by the old folklore tales and the writings of the Eddas. The Gods were mortal just like humans, the only way for them to stay immortal was to eat the apples of Iðunn so I guess it was quite natural for them to be close to the humans of Middle-Earth.
