Arwen the webmaster wrote: I'm one of those weirdos who follows the progress of movies from the very first stills/production photos to the theatrical release
Hahaha me too, it's quite a journey and I must say it makes watching the movie more rewarding. I found a cute thread on imdb.com, you have to be registered to see it: Darcy's 1001 Facial Expressions ( + meanings) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414387/board/flat/28927793Quote: ~ The look he gives her at the ball right after he says "I hope to afford you more clarity in the future." INTERNAL MONOLOGUE: 'I'm going out of my mind with jealousy that you seem to like the dastardly Wickham more than me.... Someday I'll tell you just what a *bleep* he is!'
~ The whole scene/his facial expressions when she's playing the piano at Rosings after dinner with Lady Catherine.....
Fitzwilliam: What was my friend like in Hertfordshire? Lizzie: You really care to know? Prepare yourself for something very dreadful. The first time I saw him, at the assembly, he danced with nobody at all, even though gentlemen were scarce and there was more than one young lady sitting down without a partner. Darcy: I knew no one beyond my own party. Lizzie: Oh, and no one can be introduced in a ballroom! Lady Catherine: Fitzwilliam! I need you!
INTERNAL MONOLOGUE WHILE WATCHING FITWILLIAM WALK AWAY: I didn't realize she'd taken it so much to heart. How do I get out of this? Oooh, let's see if she'll fall for the Make-My-Voice-Smooth-As-Chocolate Routine!
Darcy: I do not have the talent of conversing easily with people I have never met before. Lizzie: Perhaps you should take your aunt's advice and practice.
INTERNAL MONOLOGUE: Damn she didn't fall for it! [walks away] I wish there was something I could say that would let her see me differently, but I can't without making a complete ass of myself. So I'm just going to stare at her the rest of the evening and try to let my eyes say what I can't vocally...
Quote: LIZZIE: "I'm in Derbyshire with my aunt and uncle." (Lizzie internal monologue - G*d I'm so embarrassed, he'll think I'm throwing myself at him being here!)
DARCY: "And are you having a pleasant *trip?*" (Darcy internal monologue - Oh dear, my voice came out very stupidly there, she will think I mean is it a pleasant trip because of seeing me!!)
LIZZIE: "Very pleasant!" (Lizzie internal monologue - Gosh, that sounded like it's pleasant because of seeing him! I'm such a twit!!!)
DARCY: "Are you staying at Lambton?" (Darcy internal monologue - I love you so much... Too much... I must think of more to say to keep you here, you ravishing little thing...)
LIZZIE: Yes, at the Rose and Crown. (Monologue: Wth is wrong with me! Now he's going to think I'm telling him where I'm staying as an invitation to come see me!)
DARCY: Yes, of course. (Monologue: Smooth going, Darcy! All your money but you still can't make sensible conversation with a woman. Granted, she's the woman of your dreams, but still! Just keep her talking!)
LIZZIE: (Monologue: Why does he keep staring at me? Oh God, he's probably so filled with contempth that I came traipsing onto his property and his home and eavesdropped on his sister!) I'm so sorry to intrude... they said the house was open for visitors, I had no idea....
DARCY: No, no. (Monologue: You can 'intrude' anytime you like....)
DARCY: May I see you back to the village? (Monologue: And maybe on the way we can find a secluded copse where I can lay my heart at your feet again even though if you refuse me I'll come back to Pemberley and jump off this very terrace)
LIZZIE: No! (Monologue: Oh dear, now he'll think I hate him and he'll never speak to me again!) No, I'm very fond of walking. (Monologue: And walking will take longer, which will give me more time to fantasize about you...)
DARCY: Yes! Yes, I know. (Monologue: You bet I know. The last time you came anywhere near me walking, I got to hold your hand as you left - the most edifying experience of my life!)
LIZZIE: (Monologue: Oh my, I must get out of here before I completely lose my senses and throw myself at him) Goodbye, Mr. Darcy.
DARCY [bows]: (Monologue: I have to restrain myself from grabbing her and pulling her into my arms and never letting her go, so I'm just going to bow. But groom! Bring my horse! I must ride for Lambton immediately and invite them to dinner tomorrow night!)
It's so funny

Heheh, funny you should post that - I was just browing the P&P 05 IMDB board last night and saw that, but it had too many pages for me to feel like going through all of it. Quite amusing though!

Funny you should mention that book -- it's been discussed in the "Boyfriends" thread in the Your Life board. Everyone says it's really good...I'd love to look into it.

I've heard about Dating Mr. Darcy from you guys, but I haven't actually read it. It does sound intriguing though, so I'll have to look into it!
Anyone heard of the "Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman" trilogy? It's a series of books by Pamela Aidan that tells the story of P&P from Darcy's point of view, and has gotten some great reviews from Janeites on Amazon.com. The books are "An Assembly Such As This," "Duty and Desire," and "These Three Remain." I haven't read them unfortunately, and my dumb library doesn't have copies, although I wrote in a purchase request to the library for these books.

Okay so this is one I got from the imdb thread. I edited it a bit though : )
The first proposal:
Darcy: Miss Elizabeth. I have struggled in vain and I can bear it no longer. These past months have been a torment. I came to Rosings with the single object of seeing you. I had to see you. I have fought against my better judgement, my family’s expectation, the inferiority of your birth, my rank, your circumstance, all these things, but I am willing to put these aside…and ask you to end my agony.
[Oh wow, I cannot believe I'm doing this...]
Lizzie: I don’t understand.
[You better be in agony! How dare you make beloved Jane so unhappy?]
Darcy(emotionally): I love you.
[What on earth am I DOING?!?]
Most ardently.
[Did my voice just break?!? Okay, Okay, Darcy m'boy, that's enough blubering, pull yourself together and get to the point!]
Please do me the honour of accepting my hand.
[There. Good. You're in control again.]
Lizzie Sir…I…I appreciate the struggle you have been through and I am very sorry to have caused you pain. Believe me, it was unconsciously done.
[What did he just say??]
Darcy (Looks unable to comprehend her words): Is this your reply?
[What is she trying to tell me? Is she playing with me?]
Lizzie: Yes sir.
[Are you deaf as well as arrogant?]
Darcy (Half hesitant): Are you…laughing at me?
[I think I'm going to die on the spot...]
Lizzie: No!
[Alright, Lizzie, do this gracefully....]
Darcy (His voice becomes raised and tinged with anger): Are you rejecting me?!
[I went through all this heartache and she's doing this to me? How can she do this to me?]
Lizzie (Looks at him more confidently and directly): I am sure that the feelings which as you have told me have hindered your regard will help you in overcoming it.
[Well, be a baby about it, why don't you?]
Darcy (Takes a breath as if he does not know how to respond): Might I ask why with so little endeavour at civility I am as repulsed?
[I always thought she was so polite - where's this animosity coming from?]
Lizzie (Her tone takes on a sarcastic edge): And I might as well enquire why with so evident a design of insulting me you chose to tell me you liked me against your better judgement!
[Honestly, who can he expect to be accepted if that's how he proposes!]
Darcy: No! Believe me I didn’t mean…
[Dang, I really screwed that up, didn't I?]
Lizzie (Cuts him off): If I was uncivil then that is some excuse but I have other reasons…you know I have!
[Honestly, how could he possibly think I'd accept him after what he's done to Jane?!]
Darcy: What reasons?!
[What is she talking about?]
Lizzie: Do you think that anything might tempt me to except the man who has ruined, perhaps forever, the happiness of a most beloved sister?
[Well, what do you have to say to that, you arrogant weirdo?]
DARCY LOOKS STUNNED
Lizzie: Do you deny it Mr Darcy?
[WELL??]
DARCY IS UNABLE TO SPEAK
Lizzie: That you separated a couple who loved each other exposing your friend to the centre of the world for caprice...(emotionally) and my sister for it’s derision for disappointed hopes?
[Look at his face.... guilty, he is!]
DARCY LOOKS MORE SHOCKED
Lizzie: And involving them both in misery of the acutest kind?
[Has he gone mute, too, now?]
Darcy (Shaking his head he seems to recover his composure): I do not deny it.
[Ohhh I'm in trouble now....]
Lizzie (Looks shocked): How could you do it?
[Well. I knew it was true. But... but I didn't expect him to admit it!]
Darcy: Because I believed your sister indifferent to him.
[Well, I DID!]
Lizzie (Confusedly): Indifferent?
[He IS stupid! How could anyone look at Jane and believe her INDIFFERENT?!]
Darcy: I watched them most carefully and realised his attachment was deeper than hers.
[I've spent my whole life watching people... I know the signs!]
Lizzie (Breaking in): That’s because she’s shy!
[This is Jane we're talking about, people!]
Darcy (His voice becomes raised and more expressive): Bingley too is modest and was persuaded she didn’t feel strongly for him!
[Someone has to keep an eye on that man....]
Lizzie (In exasperation): Because you suggested it!
[I knew it! He broke them up on purpose!]
Darcy (As if convinced of his words): I did it for his own good!
[Let's face it... my best friend's a bit of a dimwit... he'd marry a barmaid just cause she's pretty!]
Lizzie: My sister hardly shows her true feelings to me!
[There's so much more to her than meets the eye! You just don't understand...]
DARCY LOOKS SHOCKED. THEY PAUSE
Lizzie: I suppose you suggested his fortune had some bearing on the matter?
[You would do something like that, wouldn't you, you insufferable man..]
Darcy (Shakes his head to deny this): No! I wouldn’t do your sister the dishonour…though it was suggested-
[I'm really going off the deep end here...]
Lizzie: What was?!
[Now what's he going to lay on our family?!]
Darcy (Takes a breath): It was made perfectly clear that an advantageous marriage would-
[I can't believe I'm about to say this....]
Lizzie (In disbelief): Did my sister give that impression?!
[What?!?]
Darcy(Rushed): No! No…No. There was however the matter of your family…
[...Maybe now would be a good time to stop talking...]
Lizzie(Her voice raised): Her want of connection?!
[Can I just kill you now?!]
DARCY LOOKS EXASPERATED BECAUSE SHE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND.
Lizzie: Mr Bingley didn’t seem to vex himself about that!
[How are the two of you best friends?]
Darcy: It was more than that!
[Shutupshutupshutup!!!!!]
Lizzie (Sarcastically): How sir?
[Explain yourself or die!]
Darcy (Exasperated tone): It was the lack of propriety shown by your mother, your three younger sisters and even on occasion your father!
[Can I die now?]
ELIZABETH LOOKS SHOCKED. DARCY LOWERS HIS TONE
Darcy: Forgive me…you and your sister I must exclude from this…
[I really screwed up this proposal!]
Lizzie (She pauses and then her voice takes on a probing, scathing tone): ..And what about Mr Wickham?
[Another person you screwed over]
Darcy (He looks unflinchingly at her and steps toward her until there is barely half a foot between them, a dangerous tone to his voice): Mr Wickham?
[Woman! How can you think of him at a time like this! I hate the man for what he did to my sister! That gold digger! Shut up! Shut up, Darcy! Before you say too much!]
Lizzie (Looks him in the eye as she questions him half defensively): What excuse can you give for your behaviour towards him?
[let’s see you try and get out of this one]
Darcy (With increasing sarcasm): You take an eager interest in that gentleman’s concerns. [don’t tell me you’re in love with him! He can never love you as much as I do!]
Lizzie (Breaking in): He told me of his misfortunes.
[not only arrogant but stingy]
Darcy (The sarcasm becomes full blown): Oh yes! His misfortunes have been very great indeed!
[what else did that lying dimwit tell her?]
Lizzie (In disbelief): You ruin his chances and yet you treat him with sarcasm?
Darcy (His tone laced with barely suppressed anger and disbelief): So this is your opinion of me? Thank you for explaining so fully.
(His voice becomes raised as he grows angrier). Perhaps these offences might have been overlooked had not your pride been hurt-
[You don’t know me! I screwed up from the start and gave you the wrong impression about me! Now it’s coming back to haunt me! Why do you have to judge me so harshly!]
Lizzie (Breaks in): My pride?!
Darcy (Speaks over her): At my honesty!...In admitting scruples about our relationship. (He pauses a moment and lowers his voice again) Could you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your circumstances?
[Do you know how much ridicule I’m gonna get from my family if they find out I proposed to you! Particularly that aunt of mine]
Lizzie (Derisively): And those are the words of a gentleman? (Her voice gathers pace as she throws each word at him with anger barely held in check-stepping ever closer to him as if to impact her words) From the first moment I met you, your arrogance, your conceit, your selfish disdain for the feelings of others made me realise that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry!
[Do you think that I would say yes? If you want your way with me your gonna have to do better. For heavens sake, get some pointers from Mr. Collins!]
LONG PAUSE
Darcy: Forgive me, madam, for taking up so much of your time.
[Can I kiss you good-bye? No! No! I'm mad at you. Run away! Darcy you fool!]

Hahahahh I remember reading that one, they're so enjoyable and adorable to read!
I haven't read any of the sequels or spin-offs of Pride & Prejudice/Mr. Darcy. Though the "Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman" sounds very interesting, I've always wondered about the story from Mr. Darcy perspective, though my library doesn't have it either. Oh well

Wow, why didn't I know about this club?! I am without a doubt a Colin-Darcy fan. Matthew was okay, but not as great as Colin, in my opinion. Colin has very subtle facial expressions, which I find very Darcy-ish. I actually really love that he doesn't smile (except for a little bit in the gazing across the room scene) until his wedding, because when he smiles, he SMILES. Watching the miniseries with a bunch of other girls is hilarious, because at the end, everyone goes "aaaw he's smiling!!!"
*sigh*

I do like Colin, too, I admit - the look between him and Elizabeth as she turns pages for Georgiana is priceless.

I was wondering when you'd join.
Oh, yes. Colin-Darcy's smiles mean so much more since they're rare. I think that's my favorite scene: when Lizzie is sining and playing. He just sits there watching her with a SMILE!

Not really...it's a kind of...you-fascinate-me-so-I'll-stare-at-you-with-a-pleased-look-on-my-face expression. Not the same as a smile!
