Yeah, always a difference... different brands of psychotic. Hitler had this white/blonde supremecy complex and Stalin just liked killing people. *makes funny face* That seems to me what it boils down to, but I am no history guru. Just a fan.

Well use google, but what can I say about them based on my own knowledge?
At El Alamein the british troops had been striken back by the "desert fox" field marshall Erwin Rommel, the british had more men, but I think germans surely held the tank quality on their side. Anyway, El Alamein was the last stand in north africa and it would have been disasterous for the britih if the germans had reached Kairo since they would gained the control of the suez canal...
But montgomery and his lads won the battle sending the afrika korps on the retreat...
Stanlingrad was another case, the city was rubble after bombardment and the battle was among the buildings and such. All tough the germans took parts of the city the russians were able to beat them back and this battle turned the tide on the eastern front for the Russians favour.
And
At Midway the use of carriers came first time into greater use as the US navy sank 4 japanese aircraft carriers, the battle gave a blow to the Japanese fleet and turned the tide there as well all tough Americans had never been really pushed all tough Pearl harbour took most of their pacific fleet...
I never said thanks
Thank you!
Varda,

No... It`s a military group, I don`t think it means that... since even the US and many others use that form... but in this case they are about groups of at least 10 000 or more like 50 000 men and multiple of them formed an army, then armies formed army groups...
btw do you know what was Rommels fate? or have you even taken interest in him? I see him as noticable leader since he was a field marshall and that rank you don`t just get, not to mention he kicked the british commonwealth forces butts with the men numbers against him...

anyway.... funny that Rommel was apart of Hitler`s assasination attempt among some other nazi`s, which failed... Rommel was given two options by Hitler
die with honor by commiting suicide with cyanid or be judged in a court, he shamed and your family will die
8)
fair options... he ended his own life in the end

Well, using cyanid is a quick, and almost painless way to die... the jail would be much worse, so he chose well (sp.?)... I remember I´ve read something about assasinating Hitler... but if they got him killed, the war would maybe end only a year earlier... most of the "damage" was already done... *sniffs* Ah, I´m ranting. Someone shut me down please.

Not really, this ideal has lived in many cultures and seen as a way to be freed from the shame he had brought like the samurai`s of japan. Harakiri was the only way to die honourably if you were a coward or a traitor etc..
Harakiri is a quite brutal way to die, first you put the sword trough your stomach, then you slash it to the right opening your stomach and raise it towards your chest.(note they aren`t dead yet) and someone then chops your freaking head off...

@Curunir: I once read a book about Japanese Samurai Traditions. One character in the book killed himself that way. It was disgusting! *g*

Honour is important for some, it was more important once or just for some there is no problem with it
