Yeah, a great place to find good people and helpful people... which I will shamelessly try to take advantage of now.
I have a friend who wants to go to London for spring... leaving as soon as possible, but she needs a place to stay, just a room with a bed basically. Does any of you happen to know anyone in London who rents out a room?

I'd love to stay in London after I'm done my primary education here. My friends and I want to rent a flat, but it's so expensive!

Sorry, when you say primary education it makes me think of the Primary School education system here in England. And Primary school kids are 4/5-10/11ish which makes you sound super young.
Sorry, it just tickled me.
And to be honest, unless you like lots of people, lots of big ugly buildings and lots of expensive things to buy then don't go to London. But if you like all that and really want to go, then go for it!

LOL yeah, it's the same here.
No, I just mean do most of my post-secondary education here at home.
Yeah, my relatives say it's like Toronto. Toronto's well enough, but I think I prefer the country.

But if you like all that and really want to go, then go for it! i'll admit that it's busy and expensive, and that some of the buildings are ugly (*cough* national theatre looks like a car park *cough*); but there are also some really beautiful buildings, my experience is that the people are really friendly, and there are some really incredible things to see and do (for example, the theatre scene is fantastic, some of the museums and galleries have some real treasures, and there's so much history to soak up). i think it's a great city. yorkshire will always have my heart, but there's still a special place reserved in it for london. well, birmingham is england's second largest city, and the industrial heart of the country. a lot of people don't like it because they think that it's ugly and the people have an awful accent. i'll concede that it's not a pretty city, but it has some good theatres (laurence olivier started his career at the birmingham old rep), a nice art gallery, the biggest shopping centre in europe, a few good parks, two top class universities and plenty of heritage, so it's not all bad. and as for he accent...well, i've grown to love it.
anyhow, enough about brum - back to big cities. of course, there are the other british capitals - cardiff in wales, edingburgh in scotland, and belfast in northern ireland. i don't know much more than that about cities in the rest of britain, but most of england's big cities are up north - leeds, bradford, sheffield, manchester and liverpool. i think that's because the north is generally more industrial, and it's industry that makes cities grow. and of course everything's better up north, especially in yorkshire.

^ st david's is actually the smallest city in britain, not wells. it's on the very western tip of wales, it has possibly the world's only cathedral built in a a ditch, it's biggest shop is spar, it sells the best ice cream in the world, and it's utterly adorable.
and to add to your notes from my own experience...leeds is a wonderful city - not particularly pretty or well-endowned with culture, but a really nice place to live. oxford and cambridge are both beautiful and gloriously historic, and the people aren't as snobbish as you'd expect (although in my experience, oxford is both more beautiful and more snobbish). worcester's pretty nice (i used to play in the county orchestra that was based there) though it does flood terribly.

*Blink* Wow. I have a lot of relatives in Liverpool and Plymouth. My ancestors were originally going to take the Titanic out of Liverpool, actually, but they didn't have enough money and left the year after.
Canterbury...is that Canterbury, Kent?

Well, Stoke is ok. Most peoples that live here think its pretty rubbish, but its got some interesting bits. One of those cities that is nice to visit for a day, or maybe a weekend, but really gets kind of annoying when you live there.
But make sure you have some proper Staffordshire oatcakes with bacon, or sausage etc. Brilliant food.....
