So, has anyone been watching the new Doctor Who series? I have, and I am impressed! I didn't think that I would be able to accept Matt Smith as the new Doctor (or, at least not easily) but he just clicked in the role. I was amazed at how easily he picked up the Doctor's character. It seemed so natural that now when I think of the Doctor, I see him and not David Tennant (sacrilege, I know. Please don't hurt me).
This season has been a very strong. I can honestly say that there is not a single episode that I disliked. At first I thought it was the excitement of the new season, or just chance that the first few episodes were excellent. But I've seen seven episodes all ready, and each one of them was marvelous. This season has been consistently throwing out amazing episodes.
And, just for fun, here is a list of things I liked compared to things I didn't like
Liked
~Matt Smith as the new Doctor
~Amy Pond: She reminds me of a young, softer Dona Noble
~Suspenders and bow tie: They're actually kinda sexy.
~The weeping angels, even though they scare the crud out of me
~Green sonic screw driver/new Tardis interior: I didn't like them at first, but they've grown on me.
~Floofy hair
Didn't like
~Power Ranger/Taste the Rainbow Daleks. Just no.
~The new logo. What was wrong with the old one?

I've been watching it, too, and I love it . In the future, it's likely to replace Torchwood as a must-watch show on Saturday nights, since RTD and company destroyed virtually everything that made that show what it was B(. Anyway, enough about my resentment over that. Back to DW :]. I've been able to accept Matt as the Doctor, too, though he'll never replace David Tennant as "my" Doctor. It was actually pretty easy to do. Despite the fact that tears were rolling down my face when Ten said, "I don't want to go.", Eleven managed to get a laugh out of me with his first words. Some of that was because he was still acting Tenth Doctor-y a little, but during the season five premiere, not once did I think, "Hey, wait a minute! That's not the Doctor B[!". Matt just seemed to settle really well into the role, and I now see him as the Doctor just as easily as I saw David as him 8).
Quote: This season has been a very strong. I can honestly say that there is not a single episode that I disliked. Totally agree with you here. From things I've read, a good portion of viewers didn't seem to like "The Beast Below" and "Victory Of The Daleks". I liked both, though, in spite of their weaknesses (e.g. to quote you, the "color-coded Daleks"). I'm really looking forward to the rest of this season :]!

wow I can't believe I've neglected this club...I'm so sorry - hangs head in shame-
What can I say? I absolutely LOVE Matt...like seriously. He's truly wonderful and I honestly like him more than DT -dives into foxhole-
I have absolutely no complaints from this season at all. Is it Matt? Is it the awesomeness of Stephen Moffat? I don't know but I've had so much fun watching this season.
Though a certain something that occured in this weeks episode upset me. I won't say a thing incase I spoilerise anyone. But...wow...I had tears in my eyes.

Haha, its funny how the same language can evolve so differently when there's an ocean dividing it. I now have a somewhat kinky picture in my mind of the Doctor wearing british suspenders, complete with stockings. I'm not quite sure how to deal with that .
And Raivynn, I think I know what part you're talking about. I was watching the episode when all of a sudden it happened. I had been quite happy, and then my face just dropped. It was so sad, such a moving scene, especially when Amy actually did, you know.... (its hard to do this without spoiling it! ). And I'll dive into that foxhole with you. I love Matt Smith! Love him to bits.

I'm reviving this club just for this one little thing that made me so endlessly happy.

I think it's about time I joined this club, since I've now seen all of the new Who.
I know I already said this way back when Tar, but that is BRILLIANT.

Ayup. The friend that I'd been watching the episodes with brought the fifth season back to school after Thanksgiving. So there were about 6 of us having a party that entire next week just watching the whole thing. EPIC. I love Matt Smith so much. Maybe more than Tennant. And while I think we're in a minority *out there*, on here it seems like that's okay to say.

Hahaha, I always thought Doctor Who was like, this show that absolutely no one in the US watched, but then I went to college. Practically everyone I've met has heard of it/is a huge fangirl of it. We actually have like, a pretty decent size group of people that celebrated Doctor Who Day on the 23rd. I was freaking impressed. Also, I brought all my season DVDs with me, and slowly began converting the rest of the people I know.
Also, I do NOT have BBCA. Therefore will have to stream the Christmas episode again. Frickkkkk.

I know, right? I never knew how many people actually knew of it before this year. Apparently, everyone was hiding it from me. Conversion is the BEST. I've done that to people with Firefly. And I take most of the credit for all my friends getting into Doctor Who now. They're not my DVDs, but in the months since my friend and I started watching them, 5 people have started watching too.
Yeah, I don't either. I wish I was back at school. I have it there. But I hope the BBC America website will probably have it up. Which will most likely be better quality than some other streaming sites. So at least that's a plus.

Oh, that's true, I didn't think about that. That's brilliant.
Also, is it terrible that I like Matt Smith better than Tennant? I feel like I'm being disloyal or something by saying that. I like Smith's Doctor just...so much more. I mean, no one can say that Smith is the better actor, because he isn't, but he's the better Doctor.

Noooo, not at all. I know some people think liking Matt is being disloyal, but it could only be potentially, a tiny bit, disloyal to Tennant. Not the Doctor. And considering Tennant chose to leave and has gone on to some great stuff anyway, why not like the next doctor? I think people take the "I don't want to go" too literally and blame Matt. And then that permeates somehow through the fan base and then BAM we aren't allowed to be a fan of Matt Smith. Which is horse hockey.
All this to say, I totally agree with you. I liked Eccleston, and he was a good, solid person to start the show off again. Tennant was good at keeping the show going, and making a character that's lovable (and pretty) and that has a lot going on. Then he went all angsty, which I wasn't a huge fan of, so Matt coming in with fish custard stole my heart. He's quirky and adorable and full of depth but still lighthearted and not in love with his companion. And she's clearly established as not in love with him.
Wow, I'm long winded today. Apparently I'm a little defensive of Matt Smith.

Haha, with every right. I give so much credit to Matt Smith, because I couldn't possibly see how anyone could fill Tennant's shoes, and Matt Smith came in and was like "screw your shoes, I have much better shoes anyway." And don't get me wrong, I like Doctor!angst, because it freaking makes sense. His life is pretty terrible, when you think about it. But Matt Smith portrays the angst in a completely different way. Like, if you look at Amy's Choice, there's the line that I think got overlooked and really shouldn't, because it's brilliant. "I know who you are. Because only one person in the universe hates me as much as you." Which, voila, was himself. That's freaking brilliant writing, Moffat, and a brilliant portrayal, Matt Smith. I mean, come on, that's SO GOOD.
Also, I like the Amy/Doctor dynamic more than I have any other companion/Doctor dynamic. Amy wants to do inappropriate things to him, and I really don't think that the Doctor would turn it down if she weren't otherwise engaged (pun not intended). I think that's hilarious, and a really nice take on a relationship like that. And of course, I also like how completely awful this Doctor is at being human. The Lodger was one of my absolutely favorite episodes. Previous Doctors could pull off human really well, Nine was just extra cranky, and Ten was just extra enthusiastic. But Eleven simply cannot be normal, which is one of the things you've got to love about him.
Also, apparently I am also very verbose on the subject.

We're prolific. But it's okay. He deserves it.
You basically hit the nail on the head there. His angst is absolutely brilliant. I also loved the whole bit with the star whale - "And then I'm going to change my name, because I won't be the Doctor anymore. Nobody human has anything to say to me today!" Just really good stuff.
"Have you seen you?" SO BRILLIANTLY TRUE. He's so bad at being normal. Which is why we love him.
DUDE. Christmas is in TWO DAYS.

I haven't visited this thread in awhile, but I got an e-mail alert that there were new posts, so here I am .
Regarding the question of whether or not it's terrible to like Matt's Doctor over David's: no, not at all :]. I'm the complete opposite (though Matt's portrayal comes in a very close second ), and will probably remain so (unless, once I eventually see some "Classic Who", one of those actor's portrayals trumps his), but I won't hold it against someone if their tastes are different from mine. It's all a matter of opinion 8). In the end, no matter which Doctor each of us prefers, we're all fans, part of a huge community that's been around for decades, and will continue to be until the very last episode of the show airs, whenever that may be, if at all .
