It's true...to an extent. I had a discussion about this in my theatre apprciation class. But there are some people in the US who deplore the amount of reality tv rubbish and want something more. I can probably think of some more American stereotypes but I guess we don't want to go into that .
No, I mean obviously there are people like that in the UK, just like there are people in the USA who actually like to think about things.

Yeah there are people like that all over the world.
Hopefully they'll be enough viewers for the writers to tell the whole story. That would suck if they just pulled the plug and we never found out what the island is etc.

Personally...I can't ever seeing the numbers going down that much that they would have to pull it....the commotion LOST has caused pretty much tells me that every series will bring the same attention to the show. And there will always be die-hard fans watching it again and again. And the show must get new airings, so people who missed out first time will be added to the viewing totals.

Actually the whole point of the 6 episodes and then a break was so there would be no reruns. Now there's going to be 15 episodes with no breaks !

Ah, American sterotypes. I, though American, have to agree with that. The general population isn't exactly... well, bright. But the reason the ratings dropped (in my opinion) was the lack of climax as to what was in the... oh wait...
SPOILERS
As I was saying... in the hatch. That was a huge hype, everyone wants to know. What's in this mysterious hatch that Boone died for? Some guy whp's been pushing a button for 108 minutes for how many years now? Not exactly exciting to the typical person, right?
END SPOILERS
That's my opinion on the thing.

MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS RESULTING FROM THE USA'S NEW EPISODE
Why Charlie? Why must they also do this to me? They're kiling off my fave characters one by one. I really hope they find a way to save Charlie, because I'll cry if he ends up dying. Why couldn't it have been Claire?
