Hullo! May I join?
Joining the discussion -
Marianne is most certainly my favourite. She's not at all the heroine really, but her passion and humility are very inspiring.
Oh Kit, the book is a must read! Emma Thompson portrayed Elinor perfectly in the movie. Besides, most of S&S is from Elinor's perspective. She is the most sensible one in the family and follows her head over her heart. Although, that's necessarily not a good thing as it nearly costs her a chance at love in the end.

I think I know what you mean about Elizabeth. Emma is a bit stubborn, but she also has such character although she does have her faults.
Ah, yes. Elinor Dashwood in the film was a really good, kind, caring character but who had just as must strength as say, Elizabeth Bennett. I can't remember too much about her in the books, as it was a while ago I read it. I think her and Marianne worked so well as characters, as sisters they are very close, but they are also completely different, so you like them both for different reasons, and you like them equally (well I do anyway!). I suppose a bit like Jane and Elizabeth Bennett, although I think Elinor was a far more stonger character than Jane. Jane didn't really seem to hold her own when Elizabeth was around.

I feel as thought Jane is very much overshadowed by Elizabeth in character --- with Elinor and Marianne, it's different because they have their own characters, but one is neither overbearing too much so as to be the more prominent figure. Elinor and Marianne are such well done for being sisters. Now that I think of Marianne, I'm not quite sure who's my favorite---can I just say the Dashwood sisters?
I shall be sure to try and get a copy of it, Larael!

I think it really is hard to say which Dashwood sister you could like best. Now that I've read both of your post's I'm finding it quite a hard decision. They both have dissimilar characters and are each their own person, yet they are so close.
Jane Austen was definitely ahead of her time when she wrote these books...

I'm quite curious to see this new upcoming Becoming Jane film. It looks gorgeous!

Oh yes, I can't wait! It's got a fabulous British cast - with the exception of Anne Hathaway, who I'm a bit skeptical of.

I keep hearing about this film. I know about it, but I'm not sure if it is something I am that interested in seeing. *shrugs* I take it, see is actually playing Jane Austen?

Exactly. She's not a very good actress otherwise, and I'm quite afraid she might butcher the part.

Well, it doesn't seem like Anne Hathaway will concentrate on having an accent--in the trailers she doesn't, and I'm afraid that's not at all appropriate because it is after all JANE AUSTEN. =/ I have never been a big fan of Hathaway and hope that McAvoy, Maggie Smith and Julie Walter will save the movie.

I'm actually going to see it later this afternoon, so I'll have to tell you what I think. I'm also a bit skeptical about Anne Hathaway, but we'll see. I was happy that McAvoy and Maggie Smith were in it though.

Well I am not familar with the actress but I'll take your word for it on the accent. American accents when they should be English, annoy me anyway, but in biopics it is just stupid.

I just came back from seeing it. I actualy thought she did a pretty good job. McAvoy was really good, and the movie as a whole was well done. I loved how they incorporated so many aspects from all of her different books in it.

McAvoy plays Jane Austen's love interest---. Leffroy, is it? I don't remember. But I'm a big fan of James McAvoy.
I'll take your word for it, ArwenEvenstar.

In the trailers, he looks very handsome and amiable...so I'm definitely gonna love him.
