Is the 16/1700's when the pirates were around? That seems really interesting, but I've never learnt about it :/

Yep, during the age of colonialisim... or well it was the most legendary time for pirates... I mean there had always been pirates before... funny that, if I remember correctly that Captain Kid was originally a privateer until he turned into a pirate

Oh, can I join?
I find history so interesting and this club seems to be a brilliant thing. For the last couple of months we've learned about the Roman empire in the History lessons.
Uhm, anyway, let me join, I'd love to!

Ah, yes, Cap'n Kidd, quite nice... but Blackbeards' story is so much more fac'natin'! Did you know that the reason he did all the things he did was to get in the history books? And when he died, he took the man who killed by the collar and said, " You will be next [or with] me on the pages of History." Or something to that fashion.

I actually don't know much about pirates, although I just learned on a documentary on the Pirates of the Carribean dvd that pirates generally did not bury their treasure and didn't make people walk the plank.

funny things about pirate flags, the very first pirate flags were just red flags with nothing on them. The french called them something like `joli rouge`meaning `merry red`all tough the english turned that in jolly roger :D

one of my favourite songs is actually "under jolly roger" by Running wild, also funny that apparently `Old Roger` is a name for the devil

Of course later on came the skull and bones, black flag thingies yet the very first red flag symbolled blood and thus forwards...

Hmm, I didn't know that either. I'm actually reading a book right now about the history of pirates, and it's very interesting. :)

We Turks were the pirates of the Meditarrean Sea. We have such legendary names in the history of Europe. I heard the pirates were present in Indonesia or closer. They have robbed at least 127 ships in the first six months of this year. I just read the news today

Yeah there are still pirates around today. I was watching something on E! that was talking about a cruise ship that got attacked my pirates, I think somewhere off the coast of Africa, but managed to get away before the pirates could board.

Barbarossa (Red Beard) 8) Wonder if they got the name Barbossa from Barbarossa?

Thanks to Don Rosa (Donald Duck cartoonist) I know some stuff about Sir Francis Drake (El Draque)

Don Rosa have learned me much in my youth about history and mythology stuff. :)

Well isn`t it obvious? all tough Barbarossa was also the name of a holy roman emperor whom drowned in a river in the middle of a crusade...

and the turks were famous for pirating in the mediterranian, but I don`t know if they were counted into the Barbary pirates that at least had bases in Algeria and other places on the north african coast.

Red Beard was a pirate from his childhood. He had made some pretty good moves against Spanishs and captured Trablus later on. His movements went on till he became a loyal commodore to Ottoman Empire by the order of Suleiman the magnificent. Besides, it is a known fact that he defeated Andrea Doria who had commanded Crusade navy. And he was buried into Istanbul sadly. After him There was Dargut who was raised by Barbarossa himself made some good serves to the Ottoman Empire but while Ottoman navy invading Cyprus or Malta I do not remember the name, he had been killed by the canonball that fired by the knights that was released away before and nowadays, there are none other.
