Wine does look nice though.
So confusing... but it does look like you know what you're talking about - at least more than I
And you're right I might stick to wine for now...
I want to live closer to MoBo.. first of all... she wants to be the DD and secondly, She's got a CAR!! Yay!!
Anyway, what's the 'drinking culture' like where you live?
*remembers another very adult-ish thing to mention*
Ohh how could I forget... we're having parliamentary elections on Tuesday... At the moment we're having a Conservative right-wing Government but personally I'm hoping for a change. I don't believe in it though... we have had a very stable period, stable economy, low unemployment rates and people generally becoming more wealthy. But my relative, unpolitical heart beats for the left-wing and more humanism in politics.

No no it's wonderfull stuff mmm... It warms you up nicely. As as a Scot I do have to like it anyway. I didn't use to like beer and whisky but now after my time in New Zealand I really like both of them as well as wine. I blame my practically alcoholic flat mate Quote: Anyway, what's the 'drinking culture' like where you live?
To be honest it's pretty terrible. Everyone drinks as much as they can as fast as they can basically. Though there is still a really good atmosphere in town at the weekends or even through the week.
Hope your election went well Eä

@Ea: Ha ha ha! Yeah, I'm the DD. I've been lucky when it comes to chaperoing my drunk friends. XD They're all pretty good about it. I'll never forget when I was able to squeeze 10 people into a truck that only fits 5, because the other DD took off early without telling me. Psssh. 2 minutes on the road, dead silence. They'd all fallen asleep!
But, as much as I love my car. Gas = evil. The last time I filled up, $70. Yeah. So, my car isn't the coolest thing right now.
Where are you from Ea? I forget. I hope your elections went well too! Which reminds me, I have to write a paper comparing some aspect of domestic politics in 5 countries for my Politics of Western Europe class. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas? I figure those who are European might have some ideas.

Well, the depressing elections made me physically ill. I've had a fever for the last 3-4 days now but I'm feeling better, though.
MoBo, I'm from Denmark. PM me if you want more info for your paper, I'd love to help. Ohh.. bloody headache... I gotta go back to my self-prescribed resting hours on the couch watching lousy TV shows - I've realised this is the only thing that will help me through this flu..

Aww that's a shame Eä But I'm glad you're feeling a bit better - watching lousy TV shows sounds an excellent cure.
MontanaBohemian I'd be happy to help with your paper on info on Scottish/ UK politics if we count as Western Europe. Do we or is it more mainland Europe?

Yay!! for Gilmore Girls
You're very right Eä But I think we're sometimes counted as Northern Europe instead or something. And I'd be delighted to teach you how to drink whisky - come to Scotland and I'll give you some excellent whisky The trick I think is to sip it in tiny wee amounts.

@MontanaBohemian: I don't think I've known anyone who didn't like the taste of alcohol. I know many who don't like the taste of beer, but alcohol in general, I find it a bit odd. XD
Me, I love drinking but I have to beer careful on what and how much I take in. I'm Hypoglycemic so I have to watch what I drink cause it really have an effect on my blood sugar. I can drink a few beers and be fine but stuff such as vodka is something I need to be more careful on. It's no fun.

^ i don't like the taste of alcohol either. i think four years of drinking communion wine strong enough to be used as paint stripper is enough to put anyone off!

@Elanor: Thanks for the offer to help! Scotland and the UK are DEFINATLEY part of Western Europe. Considering they ARE members of the EU. Well, a member...Scotland isn't exactly independent. My professor hates the name of the class, because it's getting a bit hard to define Europe. But, I managed to write my paper. Got some ideas from Ea. And not to worry, Elanor. I chose the UK as one of my countries to analyze. And I wrote my paper on immigration...just in case anyone was wondering... Which, is fascinating really. But, I won't delve into that...because then my Political Science nerd side of me will emerge and get all geeky.
I think the first kind of alcohol I ever had was whiskey. I was like...11 or 12 or something. Ha ha ha ha ha. Maybe that's why I don't like alcohol. It buuuuuuuuuuuned. XD Maybe I just need to learn how to drink it properly.
@Mrs. Haldir: Not all alcohol disgusts me. Most of it though. But beer is the worst. Although I've never had Guinness and I'm told that's some pretty good beer. Of course, my Meteorology professor who is German, could probably direct me to some amazing German beers.
Rum is some alcohol that I can handle. On rare occasions. But there are other alcoholic drinks where you can't even taste it. The Mai Tai my cousin made me is an example. Pretty damn good. But yeah, most alcohol in general isn't my thing. I even think wine is gross. Which shocks most people I know.
This is SUCH a random conversation. I LOVE it. Alcohol is such a fun thing to talk about!

lol the first time I ever had wine - except in food - was at a really conservative communion. Wow, was totally not expecting it, and it was really strong.
Pretty much the only alcohol I'll drink is wine, and I don't really like it dry. Hate beer. I don't like too much wine, either - hate approaching tipsiness. Must remember to get a bottle for Christmas while I'm still legal - I'm not in the States, hehe.

@MontanaBohemian: *gasp* I love beer! Well, a decent amount anyway. I will only drink beer that's brewed by Anheuser-Busch. Budweiser is my favorite. Stuff like Miller is just a bad tasting beer to me. Oh, and light beer! Yuck! Light beer has like no flavor to it. I refure to drink it. I am not a happy camper when I go over to someone's house and all the have to offer me is light beer. I don't care if it's go like no calories and carbs, you shouldn't be drinking beer anyway. That is like the number one thing you shouldn't have when you're on the kind of diet.
I don't like Whisky though. I tried some once and I found it so gross. Funny story behind it really. Me, my sister, her ex-bf, his sister, and two other guys, we all went to the beach, (yeah, her ex brought alcohol which is illegal to bring to the beach) my sister's ex offered me one of the tiny bottles of Whisky, I took one sip, it was so gross that I shuttered, coughed and made a face that they found so funny. I wanted to wash the taste out of my mouth, so his friend gave me his Pepsi. He actually had poured some Whisky into it sometime before, so it was a bad taste of Pepsi and Whisky which didn't help me at all and they still laughed, then they gave me water to wash it down with. (Whisky free) Yeah, yeah they got their laughes out of that but I actually laughed at it later myself.
I'm no wine person either, nor do I wish to drink the stuff. I did once. I don't remember what it was but it tasted awful. I had wash it down with something else just to get the taste out of my mouth.

Oh boy, Alcohol, let's see here, the first alcoholic drink I ever tried was....hmm...Whisky in Scotland, my mom told me "Hey, Try this! It's good!" She never really told me what it was until after I tried it It was alright...I like Wine, I had some really wonderful Red Currant Wine in France, Oh so Tasty!
Rum! Oh my....a couple weeks ago, my friends and I decided we would make alcoholic eggnog, we ended up halving the recipe, but we forgot whether or not we halved the alcohol so we ended up putting twice the amount of rum in it then we were supposed to, let's just say, it was a bit on the strong side....
Hey! I'm not a fan of beer either! Maybe, I need some education, I hear we have really good local beers...hmmm....

Oh come on, beer is really good, you just have to learn how to like the taste of it. I thought it taste quiet awful at first but after drinking it a few times, I started to like it.

How sad is it that the very person who starts a club rarely ever pops her head inside its doors since summertime?
Yet it is sad but true. Everything, internet life included, when you are in a long-distance relationship and the guy who is courting you (look up the term if you aren't sure, and yup, this is old-fashioned sense of it) lives 1600 miles away. Which means for the past x-number of months you've been typing with your beau online or talking on the phone when not busy with grading or lesson plans or other outside life, somehow not taking time to be with the very other people who share the commonality of being over 18 on this forum. Then of course whenever visits happen each month, you then take vacation from the site altogether, which I've done once a month since August now and will be taking another two week break right after Christmas when I make a visit up there.
Anyway.
Sorry for that ramble.
All that goes to say, sorry for disappearing from my job hosting this club, and I'll try to be more involved.
Thank you to all of you lovely over-18ers at AU who have kept up your membership in this club and kept the actiivty flowing nicely.
Namely,
Mrs. Haldir. By the way, it sounds like you learned to appreciate beer much they same way as I did wine. I've never been able to bring myself to try beer, though maybe I should sooner or later. I"m sure it also depends on the kind of beer you have. What's your favorite kind?
Sida. You have been wonderful in this club, posting post after post in here. Thanks so much *huggles*! Red currant wine? I've never tried such a thing. What was it like besides tasty!?!
MontanaBohemian, it seems as though any and every time I poke my head in this club, there's a post by you. You seem to be very dedicated, and your posts are always interesting to read! The first kind of alcohold you tried was whiskey!?! That must've been quite the introduction! Even the smell is enough to make you not want to have another swig in your life! Though I enjoy it in cooking, I must say. Yes, learning to drink things properly *does* make a difference.
ethelfleda, I don't think I've met you before but I'm so glad you are here! I hope to be more active in this club again, at least comparatively, so hopefully we'll be able to get to know each other somewhat.
Ela, I should've known that when I didn't see you around the other areas of the site I could find you hanging out here! Sounds like you have some insight into drinking things other than your milders wines and beers! hm.
Ea, glad to see you're not dead Oh, yeah, elections, a very sticky business because the bottom line is, no one can be completely happy with whoever is in power, just doesn't work that way. And it seems like the elections just teeter-totter back and forth as the decades pass. A more conservative guy in power, everyone wants to go the other way because of course it'll be better, and vice-versa. It'd just help if more parties than usually make it on the ballet or run things could share power a bit more. But that's life! (Yes, I'm speaking as a third party member)
JF--here you are! I had to scroll all the way down to an early November post, but I found you here in the club. A welcomator active (or was active once!) here! Nice to see you
