My horse loves going places, so he trailers really nicely, we just have to open the doors and throw the rope over his neck and he'll walk right on in all by himself. I laughed so hard when he first did this, because our first horse was a nasty trailerer, it used to take us 15 minutes just to get her near the trailer >.< Oh well, I loved her anyways!
Yay! All my horse does is eat too! Sometimes I think he likes his food more than me *sniff* but of course which horse doesn't? Then again, he likes me more when I'm there with food.....

..well I've had Ruby for....uh..longer than three mouths but shorter than a year. She was sold to someone else at four months and then she was brought back because she wasn't fed right so now she's really small ad isn't developing in her mouth right. But he suggested this new food because it has no starch in it and it has roughage in it already.

Hahah I feel the same way with my horse as well! When shes in her stall and I go over she comes over, sniffs to see if i have food, and then realizes that I dont so she turns around and eats her hay some more. Silly horsie. You gotta love em though
Aww im sorry Weeziey. Hopefully the new food helps you! I have a smilar horse like that at my barn. She was starved and pregnate so my horse trainer took her. Now she looks really good and is getting muscle back. We just have a hard time trying to control her weight. She looses it and gains it alot. We think she just has a hight metabolism.
And I have had my horse now for 3 months and 6 days

Well its not a problem with gaining or losing weight. i taped her the other day and she weighed 821 and she wa14.2HH. And i bet she actually weighs more than that because its all in her but not her chest!. But this feed should help her because she gets "hot' on the feed we give her now and because the horses have free grazing and they're all in one pasture then have almost no grass most of the year so we have to substitute lots of hay and beet pulp so with this feed it will eliminate at least the beet pulp.

We put corn oil in the horses food to help them gain weight.

I hope Ruby is o.k. As for the food question, Dancer dose love her food more then me. Whenever I go into the barn and call her, she'll run in nickering, asking for food and whenever I go to the grain container, she'll lean her head over the gate and start nickering when I come in with the grain.

Shadowfax'sLastStand, generally in the winter and spring time horses lose a lot of weight, so I wouldn't worry about it terribly. Unless it's been a drastic weight change, then I would talk to the vet. You also mentoned yoru horse is losing grain out of his mouth. He could possibly be a messy eater, my previous horse I had, made a mess when she ate spewing grain everywhere. I think she was like a little kid and playing with her food . However, if your horse isn't a naturally messy eater, perhaps there is something wrong with his teeth...Have you had your horse's teeth floated recently?

we did get his teeth done, he had to get one taken out. He is 26 so it might have to do with his age.

Sometimes (if they can handle it ) just putting hard alfalfa cubes in their food will help. I know with Ruby's teeth its helped and it also helps if you change their eating position. Like if you normally have them eat out of a bucket at a normal head level you might want to try putting it in a rubber bucket on the floor. Or vise versa.

Good to see your horse is improving. I rode Dancer today, god she was a pain. I hadn't ridden since Sun. so dad free-lunged her and when I tried to get her into the trot, she wouldn't do it so I had to spur the heck out of her, but she ended up going and before we left, dad talked to my instructer about it and he said that when we free-lunge with the saddle on, she thinks she can goof off.

My horse is a messy eater as well. She always slobbers her food everywhere and drips water when she drinks. Its so funny, and then she comes over to me and im like oh no dont you get that all on my. ahah. I will probably have to get her teeth floated soon, but im not sure when. And I love buying stuff for her too! Its sooo fun! If only it didnt have to cost money
Haha Lady Raine horses can be so funny sometimes. They really are smart animals.
I havent been able to ride since last week because of this cold weather! I dont like it I didnt get to lunger her on Sunday though. She was so good! The natural horsemenship techniques my friend has been teaching me are working really well, and Mia is starting to respect me and is becoming less dominant! I was so happy!

Yeah I haven't been able to ride in forever because first it was rainy then it started to freeze so the water never really dried up it was just like ..well lets just say you step in a huge pile of manure in the field because you thought it was mud and the ice cracks and you fall in it.....

I know, winter riding is a drag unless you have an indoor arenea or acess to one. I have acess to one, but I can't wait till spring and summer, that's when the 4-H clinics start and fair begins....oh and the horse shows too. As for the topic of messy eater, Dancer kinda eats messy, if something is distracting her, she will leave her grain bucket while she is still dribbling grain and gawk out her stall door.
