^ Welcome JF. Right now we are on Chapters 11-14 of the PS/SS. We are kinda jumping between books on whatever we feel is relevant to what we are talking about, so if you see anything that intrests you jump on in or if you have a good topic to discuss post it! :]
Know that I reread all the books, i feel like Snape was not telling lies when he said James was arrogant. Harry would never torment anyone just because he was bored or whatever. But I do feel like Snape is holding Harry at this prejudiced standard that makes it hard to get over. I think that Harry is a bit more mature that James was. They are exetremely alike, but i don't think they are the 'same person'.
I think that the Mirror will show up in the Deathly Hallows. JK has been excellent at keeping information that she doesn't want known secret. She won't tell us more than we need to know. So if she won't tell us what Dumbledore see's in the Mirror, we're almost garunteed it will turn up again.
Has anyone noticed an obsession of socks in the book? Keep an eye out for it and you will see lots of socks! Why do you think socks are important?

Aye, calling James arrogant was a running theme with Snape. And it's true. We see this in Snape's Worst Memory. James is very egotistical and tortures Snape for no reason. Unlike James, Harry is definitely more down to earth in this respect. He doesn't attack people unless he is provoked.
A very good point Amoniel. I was sure that Mirror wouldn't be turning up again, but the fact that we don't really know what Dumbledore would've seen could be a very big clue later on in DH.
Oo, interesting! Dumbledore likes socks and Dobby likes socks. Harry receives socks for Christmas several times. Mrs.Weasley washes Harry's socks. It's a running theme, socks. Do you think JKR does it on purpose?

Either it is just a strange obsession of JK's or there is some importance of socks in the last book. :]

Harry and James are alike in many ways. But their personalities are different. James made fun of Snape, and did torment him. That was very hard to watch in OotP when Harry saw him doing that. He must have been both shocked and hurt. Harry would never harm anyone for no reason. He has a very kind heart. James did too, but it seems that he tried to show off, and fit in with the crowd, making fun of others in the process. But that was when he was younger, and as he grew im sure he matured alot more.
Haha and im not sure about the whole socks thing. I know it freed Dobby! But other than that maybe like Amoniel said it will become important for some reason?

Speaking of freeing house-elves.. Do you think Kreacher will be freed in the last book? Something important is going to happen with him, but I'm not sure what it is..

That's a good idea! A thought occurred to me when i was reading it: what if the reason she was 'indisposed' was because she was doing something for Dumbledore? It's a long shot, but it could be a possibility...maybe.
And about Kreacher: I think that he will definately play a big role in the last book, but maybe not being freed. I think he might have information on Regulus (Sirius's brother)
Speaking of that: do you think R.A.B is Regulus (sp?)?

Ooh, yes! I mean, that's the only person RAB could logically be, right? And it all fits in with that heavy locket they found at Grimmauld Place.
As for Mrs.Figg.. she is a Squib, and we do find out later that she has connections with Dumbledore, however, at the time she was probably thinking that it wouldn't hurt for Harry to get out and have some fun for once. Not too far-fetched, eh?

No not at all! It sounds like something she would do!
Now all we have to wonder is, did Mudungus sell the necklace?

Oh, I hope not. Harry'll be in big trouble if he did. Who knows where it could have ended up..

As for Mrs. Figg, I think she actually did break her leg in a logical, non-conspiratorial way. I don't think the bit at the zoo was really necessary for Harry, just necessary for us readers to see his magical powers in action at an early stage in the book. Though I have no doubt she was glad that Harry got out to have a bit of fun.
And I don't think Mundungus would have sold the necklace. This last book has to have Harry finishing off all the other horcruxes as well as fighting the final battle with Voldemort, so I think it would take up too much time to go chasing off after a horcrux that has already shown up in the stories.
I don't think Kreecher will be freed either. As Sirius said, he knows too much about the Order.

Just another thought about the locket.. do you think Kreacher has it? I mean, do you think he managed to steal it away. That would makes things easy for Harry. All he'd have to do is go to Grimmauld Place..

But Kreacher is at Hogwarts now... and, wasn't it in the junk pile they were throwing away? If Kreacher did steal it, it would have to be from there.

Exactly. But that still means it could be in two places. Kreacher could have taken it to Hogwarts or it could be in his "den" at Grimmauld Place.
