Ohh early birthday wishes to both of you!!
So the 21 thing in the States... do people consider it bigger than 18, and do they do it because that's the age when they can legally drink? And is 18 even considered big at all?

Well.... 18 means you are legaly and "adult" here. 16 is uaually big although I am not sure why...
21 is big because at that age you move from an "adult" to an ... unrestricted adult... for lack of better words. lol
Personally, though, I don't think any of them are any big deal. I forget my birthday when it comes half the time.
The only reason I am looking forward to 21 is because that is when I can own my own pistol and get my concealed wepaons carry permit etc...
(I keep telling my parents that when I turn 21 I'm buying me a gun and carying it with me everywhere... I still don't think the believe me... )

13, 16, 18, and 21 are the big ages (before 30+) here. 13 is the first teen year, 16 is when you can get a license, 18 is when you are legally an adult (cigarettes and "adult magazines" anyone?), and 21 is the age you can legally drink.
A couple of friends (who are both older than me) said they're going to take me to Baby A's (a Tex-Mex restaurant where I live) because they have good margaritas. Don't know if it'll actually pan out, as they both have jobs, but they know when my birthday is, so... yeah.
Other than that, don't have any plans

Not to offend anyone... but I personally never saw the point in drinking. *shrugs*
the possabilities are, getting drunk (Bad because you loose control of yourself and any time you loose control things are out of your hands and that is a weekness)
And you can get edicted (And an ediction to anything is also a weekness)
I want to be alert, and ready if something happens that forces me to react or act quickly and decisively...
Call me crazy.... but I'm a bit paranoid. I am the kinda guy who sticks toothpicks against the door to see if anyone is entering my house while I am away... or hides video tapes in the bread basket where it has a perfect view of both doors...
haha... so yeah. That's my take on it.

Having reached my 21st birthday, I really don't understand all of the excitement. Don't get me wrong, I went out to the pub and had a couple of glasses of various alcoholic beverages on my birthday However, I could have done that in the past as well, I guess Montana is a bit more lenient than other places. When I went to Idaho (when I was just 3 months short of my 21st birthday) they wouldn't even let me into the bar to talk someone really fast...
Jax, I have a few friends that share your views of alcohol, however, they don't drink mainly because they follow Islam. I respect their views, which happen to be extremely close to yours being alert etc....
Personally, I've never had a problem with casual/social drinking, I enjoy my glass of wine every now and then, which reminds me I have a nice bottle of Rosé, a rose wine, just waiting for a good occasion However, I'm not a big fan of purposely drinking to get wasted or drunk, I think it's a bit extreme and sometimes dangerous, my neighbor got alcohol poisoning and was throwing up blood...erlack.

I don't want to get so drunk I pass out/have horrible hangover/etc etc. I'm thinking casual drinking- drinks w/ friends on the weekend, having a glass of wine/other alcoholic beverage with a meal, etc. I wouldn't want to be drunk for the heck of it unless I was in bad shape and wanted to forget something ("she done me wrong" country drinking songs, anyone? ).
Haha, I've told my friends that I'm kind of scared what I would be like drunk, since it lowers inhibitions, and I'm kinda crazy (sober) sometimes. Hmm.

Yes! I'm exactly like you, I'm kinda scared to see what I would be like drunk!
On my 21st birthday, I kept telling my friends, "I have school tomorrow and I have to go to a conference! I don't want to get drunk!" They were really understanding....and I didn't even get tipsy However, I drank a lot of water and ate before going out.....Just as long as you drink a lot of water, you'll be fine!

^I'm interested to see how well I hold alcohol. Or if I'll even like it.

I don't think im ever going to drink! I mean, yeah, its a social thing, but it makes you do stupid things. My brother is still suffering from a DWI he had 6 years ago. He is having problems finding jobs because that goes on your record from 6-7 years later! It stinks.
Plus, i don't get what High people achieve when drinking alcohol. What is it's purpose? Couldnt you have fun just drinking pop or a nice cup of Hot Chocolate?

I don't see the signifcance of the 21st birthday that much anymore, even though I will, being myself, probably blow it up to more than it is just for the fun of it. However, the people that would find it significant are going to drink beforehand anyway...
After my 21st birthday, I would really like to drink some. Not get drunk. But, at fancy dinners and such, drink some wine or something.

^ LOL my age group/class is currently turning 21 or have already had that birthday. I'm one of the later birthdays in my class. So on facebook, you always see these event postings that are like, "It's my 21st birthday! Come drink with me at ____!" I don't have a bunch of friends, so that won't happen, not that I'd want to. It'll just be me and a couple of girlfriends if I even do anything on my birthday. It's on a Tuesday.

I don't want beer. I've been told it's an acquired taste, but I don't even really want to try. I'm thinking mixed drinks, fruity drinks. I'm a wimp.

Yeah, I heard that as well. Though I'm not sure what would drive you to "Acquire" such a taste in the first place.
I am sure that some of the other stuff is much more pleasent tasting... at least I would hope so. lol

Blah, Beer, One of my friends tried "educating" me on beer...."Try this! This is a Lager, it's rich and hearty....blah blah blah..." For some reason all I could think was that it should only be consumed by lumberjacks... Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of Beer, so...yeah..
So, Jax, is it legal to wear a gun in public? I didn't think it was....Perhaps you can educate me on the laws and such...

It is perfectly leagal to have a gun in public.
For a rifle, you just have to be 18 years old and you can carry it around with you (assuming it's a legal rifle and not a sawed of shotgun or some other restricted gun)
For a hand gun you have to be 21 before you can legaly own one but it's still legal to carry one around on private property.
In fact, even if a public place has a "No guns allowed" sign posted it is still perfectly legal for you to carry a gun in there. They can't really stop you because of the second ammendment.
You just have to have the gun highly visible if you don't have a concealed weapons poermit. But if you have the permit then you can hide it and tuck it away wherever you want.
So yeah... that about sums it up.
(Just a side note... when a store says "no guns allowed" what that really says to the criminle is "easy place to rob." Because they know no one in there is going to be able to resist them. The only people gun laws control are the law abiding citizens. The people who don't abide by the law (th epeople who need to be controled) don't follow the fun laws anyway so more gun laws don't do any good)
Ok... well I guess you can all see where I stand on this subject but I'll shut up now and say "good bye" *waves*
