Ha! That's kind of funny.
I've always been very picking on the names I give my characters because I feel very strongly that the name they have reflects a lot on their personality and such. Sometimes I'll spend hours just starring at a blank page wanting to write but can't because I can't think of the perfect name. It's just something I do and I can't really explain it. Weird habbit I guess.

not at all weird! I feel it's hard to write a character if their name reminds one of a character completely opposite! like a wimpy guy named something like Alexander, which means defender of men. I for one couldn't write that. :eyesclosed:

I do the same thing. I always spend hours finding that perfect name that fits the character so well. It is important to me to. I love it when other people do that as well- I feel like it gives more "depth" to the story.

I'm the same way. My Star Wars ones have been particularly hard because I'm not using typical names that would normally suggest something to people. A lot of them, though, I came up with by typing certain words that describe them into one of those free translator sites and translating them into random languages just to see what I get. I've found that Welsh and Russian are very effective for Star Wars names after they've been tweaked a bit.

I love making up names and searching for them. I stole my mom's baby name book. Behind the name is a good site, but its too vast and too hard to get around for some things. I too love to think of a name that will suite my character perfectly. I find a good name, tweak it a bit. All sorts of stuff.

Okay, kinda random subject change, but I have another PotC one-shot that I just wrote, and I'd like some feedback. It's still a rough draft (I haven't even read back through to check for errors ) and really just a bit of fluff, but I'd still like to know if I'm on the right track. It's called "I'll Not Abandon You" (yes, based on Will's line in DMC).

"Plans for tomorrow night?" Um, okay. That was an excellent story though.

Yeah...there may be a few spots that don't make sense in there. See, it was originally written as a PG-13 fic, but I had to apply several quick edits to meet A-U's PG restriction.

That was excellent, potr. I love your word use and the nice little spunk you put in Bootstrap. The mention of skeletal pirates adds for a tinge of irony and suspense - I was actually expecting the pirates to be real and the entire fanfic to go off in a completely different direction! And Bootstrap's own hypocritical self, how he said he'll never leave. Makes me wistful. I also like how you took the script from the movie and added words here and there to make it deeper.
Only thing I would suggest is linking the flashback and the real event more tangibly, instead of the flashback suddenly ending. Could you add something in there to suggest that Boostrap was thinking of that long ago night as he handed the knife over to Will? And perhaps a bit more introspection that shows what Boostrap was thinking... him lingering on his promise to protect Will, the reason he broke it, etc. We know everything that happened in the movie already; now we want to know in words what the moving screen COULDN'T include.
Overall, awesome job!

Great job, potr!! I love how well it incorporated with the story just from that one line- you took a great perspective on it.

Just a note- an edited version is posted in the fanfic section. I just moved some stuff around and smoothed out some places. Oddly enough, I basically did everything LDM suggested, but before I even read her post. So...yeah. It's there if y'all would like to see the finished product.

Ahh..I totally forgot about this club! and Writing is the best.
I've actually now considered of writing my own set of novels. I got a brilliant idea last night, and I started writing it last night. I wrote about 12 pages of it. Hmm..But it may need adjustments though.

I am writing a book. I have about 100 pages total, but they are not contiguous. Half of it is at one part and another is a few years in the past. I haven't written anything in about a year.
