I always loved Britsh shows. Most much more than American. (Canada can't make programmes worth turnpis.)

I can't say I have seen many American shows, so I can't really comment, but from what I have seen, I prefer British TV show to anything else

Hmmm.... I'm not British, but I have a question that you British people will probably know. (O at least, I hope)
Last Friday I was watching Doctor Who, and the phrase "Up the ol' apples and pears" was said. I've heard that before, but I don't really know what it means, and its bugging me. I'm guessing that it is a British term (The show itself is British). If you British people could tell me, that would be great.

I didn't mean to be mean! . I Couln't really think of another way to say it. "Yo, all you british peeps." Didn't sound right. I didn't want to say "Hello, chaps" For fear that I would get wierd looks for using that term incorrectly. Though of course, This is the British club. I guess that since everybody hear is british, I can just say every body...
But I'll just let y'all answer the question, and then I'll be onmy merry way.

Up the old apples and pears comes from 'Cockney Rhyming Slang'. First of all, Cockney Rhyming slang comes from the cockney part of London (Cockney is normally referred to as and accent.) The people in this area created a whole host slang, based on rhyming a word or several words with what they actually mean.
'Apples and Pears' rhymes with stairs, which is what it means.
Other bits of CRS are:
'Elephants Trunk'~ Drunk
'Tit for tat' ~ hat [Normally abbreviated to 'titfer']
'Rubber dub' ~ Pub
You get the picture

So the saying "Apples and pears" is just a fancy and drawn out way of saying stairs? Interesting. I'll have to use that sometime. Confuse everybody.

Let's see... I know some Cockey, so we'll see what I remember. Another thing to know is that sometimes we just shorten it to the first word instead of sayin' the whole thing.
Barnet [Fair]- hair Frog [and toad]- road Rosie [Lee]- tea Mickey [Mouse]- house
