Cool! I know someone who entered that but never had the courage to do it myself. Tell me if you win!

Man, it would take a miracle for me to win...
Here's the question:
Category 2 (students ages 12-15): If you could choose to make a small difference in the world at large or a big difference in one person's life, which would you choose and why?
My essay:
Wildfire.
I have one chance to make a difference in the world. Many ideas fill my small mind, and sadly the majority of them are of how I could make life better for me. However, the list narrows down when I am given two choices: to make a small difference in the world at large or a big difference in one person’s life. At this point a struggle enters my mind. A small difference in the world could change it forever, but most likely the change would soon be devoured by the things of this world. On the other hand, a big difference in one person’s life could rescue that person from an eternity separated from God. I would rather live my life knowing that one person had been changed because of my little life than wondering if my influence had made a difference for anyone.
Even coming to this conclusion, though, does not erase the debate completely from my mind. If I could chose to make a difference in anyone in any way, my choice would fall somewhere in between those two given choices. In a sense, my decision would lean more toward making a small difference in the world. So little is expected of the youth in our culture, yet we have so much potential as young people. Influencing my generation to do hard things could be considered a small change in the world. However, I believe that for this transformation to occur, each teenager would have to be affected in a way that would revolutionize their lives – a big difference in one life. To change the world even just by touching a microscopic part of a person’s heart could still claim them for Christ. It could still change the youth culture back to how it used to be, where youth were considered adults-in-training. But making a large difference in the life of one teenager would help in an eventual larger goal of revolutionizing our culture. It would save the teenager from hell and I would know my influence had changed a life.
. Thus, I choose to make a big difference in a single person. I do not choose this because I do not care about the people of the world. Rather, I do not wish to see people perish and fall into an eternal fire. However, I would prefer to see one person changed and know they were saved than have a small difference fall away into nothingness and separation from God. I cannot make even a small difference in one person without help from my Creator. With his help, though, I can do anything, even making a big difference in the world at large. But I must start with one person. A flood starts with one drop of rain, a fire with a small spark. My candle has been lit with a spark from my Savior, and now it is my turn to start a fire in the heart of one person – a fire that will grow into a fire that will eventually spread, perhaps throughout the whole world. I will light another flame to begin a wildfire.
Tell me what you think.

Ohh... I really like that essay, Night. Very well-written and the thoughs flow in a logical structure. I really really like it. Good job!
Hang on lemme look and i can tell you what i'm using for logic....its called: Logic by Issac Watts. Its not a workbook, like my last logic book, its just major reading material. ^^

I want to join!!
I was homeschooled for my entire life (although I attended a homeschool co-op and community college for the last 3 and 2, respectively, years of high school).
Not anymore, though. Now I'm actually at college!! hehe.
Anyone heard of Dr. Paul Cates? We didn't use any one company's curriculum; we had him test us and then "prescribe" a curriculum for us to use each year.

Ooh, cool! I've nevr even seen this club! So joining!
I've been homeschooled all my life (kindergarten doesn't count ). And I love it. It's great to be able to control what you work on, and be able to take everything at your own pace. I don't have many homeschoolers my age in my area anymore, though... They've all "moved on".

Yay club revival!
Oh... we just heard today...
In CA they're trying to make it so that homeschoolers can only be homeschooled if the teacher has a teaching certificate...
Man I hope that doesn't get passed...

Urg, that'd be bad. Homeschooling almost got completely outlawed in one of the midwest states.

That would be absolutely awful!!
My mom can teach better than some teachers I've had in college...and she never even finished her college degree!! (which was in nursing, not even close to teaching)

Really? Outlaw homeschooling in California? That would be horrible. I heard they were trying to do this in Nevada too... Really, why? Why do they need to outlaw it? There's quite enough kids going to public schools... And it's not like the the homeschoolers aren't learning. That's one good point about the Canandian government: they don't care!

Yeah... I think they should just do testing on the homeschoolers and go-to-schoolers and see which come out smarter.
