Welcome to the glitter and glamour that is the Eurovision Song Contest. I've been a fan of this lovely show since around 1987/1988 and thought it'd be a fun idea to start a club as I'm hoping there are other Eurovision fans on this forum. I am somewhat obsessed with the show as I can name and sing every single winner (and various entries that never won) from 1956-2006 :D I hope you shall enjoy yourself here as much as I will, so let's sit back, relax and discuss the awesome, horrendous, hilarious, dreadful and sometimes just downright confusing songs, artists, costumes and hairdos that make the ESC :)

I was wondering when you'd reguest a ESC club!! I remember the long convos we had on the topic a while back, lol
Sorry I'm not joining the club, but same thing applies as for the Norse Mythology club, it's a time issue.. and also the fact that I'm not the even close to be called an ESC fan, though I do happen to watch it occasionally...
Good luck with the club!

Alright, seems like the club got a rough start... being pushed so far back.
Anyway, perhaps a bit of conversation could help it with a second chance...

What's your favorite ESC song - winner or not?
And what do you think of this year's winner?

Sign me up...

My favourite winner? Lordi! :D not because they are finnish, but because I`d rather listen to rock than the usual offering of the Eurovisions. I think Lordi won because they were refreshing, original and something new in their style of music not to mention they act was spectacular.

My question to you, now that Lordi dominated the Eurovisions will this convert other countries into sending rock bands? :speech: (that would be freaking cool)

Wheeee I have a member :D Thank you Curunír :)

Lordi rocked! And yes countries are usually inspired by the previous winner when sending their own contributions the next year. Ruslana won with Wild Dance in 2004, a very cool ethnic folk song and the following year, 2005, about half of the countries had folk music incorporated in their entries. Expect a lot of rock next year for sure!

Thank you for trying to bring life to my club :D

Oh wow favorites? I have SOOO many favorites, but a long-time favorite has always been "Kan" by Duo Datz who sang for Israel in 1991. They came third. Awesome song. Other favorites would be "Après Toi" - Luxembourg 1972, "Pouppée De Cire, Pouppée De Son" - Luxembourg 1965, "Dansevise" - Denmark 1963, "Insieme: 1992" - Italy 1990, "Hajde Da Ludujemo" - Yugoslavia 1990, "Musik Klingt In Die Welt Hinaus" - Switzerland 1990, "Diwanit Bugale" - France 1996 and tons of others.. I could go on all day :D

Congrats on your first member! Long live the club.

You are a true ESC fan indeed; I have never heard of those songs before. And also I'm very biased; in general I tend to like songs more when I understand the lyrics - which sadly enough leaves out a lot of countries.
With such a huge knowledge on ESC do you get together with other fans on forums or mailing lists to discuss the topic? And have you been to any live shows?

lol yes I'm an ESC nerd - loud and proud :D

For me it's always been about the music, not the lyrics so that has never been a problem for me. In fact I usually prefer it when different countries sing in their own languages as English usually don't do the songs justice, especially if it has a folk touch to it.

I have never been to a live show sadly, but I definitely plan on doing so in the future. In fact I plan on contributing with a song for the contest, my brother and I are working on several. I have a few friends who are ESC hardcore fans and we usually get together and watch the contest or old ones we've taped.

How about the costumes and the whole performance... or is it just in recent years that has become a big thing (thanks to MTV)?

Well, it seems that you (and perhaps Curunir) are the one and only ESC fan on A-U, but after all the non-Europeans count a far greater number than Europeans here...

It's always been a pretty big thing I think. It's just in a much bigger scale (production wise) nowadays, but if you ask me the contest was much better in the past than it is now.

Either Curunir and I are the only ones who actually care about the show or we have secret cloet fans who don't dare to come forth... or there are simply members who haven't been to this part of the forum yet lol

Oww, another member... guess you need to do more advertising to catch people's attention!

What is Lordi's songs like? Are they similar to the... err.. *forgot the name* winner song?

yeah a bit, but with less tune on some of them, and not quite so clean on some of them. But Chainsaw Buffet and Kids Who Wanna Play With The Dead is really good.

The Devil Is A Loser is one of the best, from their first album

Thanks...Umm... simply judged from the titles is doesn't sound like anything I'd like to listen to... I'm not a metal-fan.. but then I can't say when I haven't heard the music yet...

Anyway guys, you must honour the club and talk about something a little more ESC-related!
