I have never read that one either. I'm on OOTP at the moment and we haven't seen much of Snape, mores the pity.

Just keep on reading you two, Snape will take a more centre stage once you get to HBP.

I have to get this off my chest here.
Spoilers---highlight to read.
Is it me, or did Snape's death seem so... pathetic----though it does fit the theme of the anti-hero, it was just tragic and rather sad---pitiful, almost---which could make sense since after seeing Snape's memories---it fits with the entire theme of his life, it's so pitiful.
I also want to say that the whole mass of Snape/Lily fans are suffocating because it's just .... so sudden and I can't imagine Lily ever have reciprocated Snape's feelings in that sense. That's just me, though. [shrug] If JKR said otherwise in an interview, I still don't buy it. The subtext says differently.

Spoilers
Highlight to read --
Hmm.. pathetic would not quite be the word I'd've used. However, pitiful is. That's what JKR wanted us to feel I think. She wanted us to know that Snape was good [or had at least been helping Harry] and that he should be pitied for the things he's gone through.
Personally, I found his death and 'The Prince's Tale' very moving. I pitied him and I mourned not for his death, but for the fact that he died the enemy to so many people. His story is a tragic one. It's all about the choices he made really. What if he hadn't been in Slytherin? Or what if he hadn't joined the Death Eaters? Things would have turned out quite differently.
As for the Lily/Snape fans... I dunno what to say in their defense as I'm one myself. *shrugs* I don't see what's so wrong with them anyway. I saw that ship coming all the way back in OotP and I don't think I'm the only one.

Continued spoiler talk----highlight to read.
Fans may have started seeing the Lily/Snape since around OotP, but they hadn't started becoming active since this recent and last book, the fact that---there's no evidence in the books to say that they were together at any point in time or that they shared the same feelings, the sudden volunteer army is just overwhelming.
I can appreciate and love Snape for being capable of emotion such as love, jealousy, regret---but I love him more for not being able to receive such emotions.

i was rereading HBP, and i finally finished, with many distractions, last night... or this morning...
i finished at 1 ha!
yes, that's why im afraid to start on long books in the afternoon, i full well know i will read them into the night. or morning. whichever.
goodness so many spoilers!
my mouse is getting itchy i wanna read them lol. You guys are making me want to go get the 7th book right now...
But, after reading that link on the first post about how snape was good, I always didn't think that he betrayed Dumbledore, but I never had reasons lol.
i suppose it goes back to the "trust dumbledore's judgement" thing. Or maybe that I just always think of the most random outcome ever!
But now the article has further convinced me that snape is good... and made me reread the book, but we'll skip on that lol

Spoilers: Highlight to read--
Mmm, yes, I know what you mean. I certainly didn't broadcast the Lily/Snape ship before now just because I was in the minority. I'm sure other fans can say the same thing. What annoys me the most however is the fact that a big rush of people who scoffed at the idea before now love the two of them together. *scowl*
Overall Snape is just an interesting character all around, no matter who loved him or if he loved anyone else.

My first impression of Snape was due to the movie portrayal, being a fan of Alan Rickman, I loved him, at that point it didn't matter if he was really bad or good, because in SS/PS, he was good.

My first impression of him was from reading PS. I was only 6 at the time so I thought of him as a greasy-haired git like everyone else.My infatuation with him and the possibility of there being more to Snape's didn't come til after I'd read OotP. Speaking of Alan Rickman though, he's amazing! They couldn't've picked anyone better for Snape.
