*flails in* Revival! (okay, flails is just a fun word to use.)
Quote: And here we have six missing Death Eaters. . . three dead in my service. One, too cowardly to return. . . he will pay. One, who I believe has left me forever. . . he will be killed of course. . . and one, who remains my most faithful servant, and who has already reentered my service.
- From the information given, can we deduce if Voldemort ever speaks of Snape in this speech? Oh gosh. I've looked at this thing quite a few times wondering about it. What I've gotten... 3 dead - we know he knows Snape is still alive. Or would assume Snape would still be alive. 1 coward - Karkaroff. He ran instead of responding. 1 left forever....hm. Here I guess is where most people would put Snape, but I'm not so sure. Voldemort still believed him loyal in DH, only killing him because he needed the Elder wand. But he does say "believe." And Snape says later that "by delaying his return, he still kept his position as spy in Hogwarts" or something to that effect. So perhaps at this moment, Voldemort believes he is turned, but later is convinced he was only acting in Voldemort's best interests. Most faithful - I think he means Crouch, since Crouch was the reason Harry was there (which I believe Voldemort goes on to mention).
Quote: And now something less connected to GoF - Pre-DH/Post-DH Snape
How do you view Snape? Do you split him into the two categories mentioned above? How has Snape changed for you since the release of DH, and which side of him do you prefer?
Oh sheez. See, this is unfair. I like the bad guys, but I either want them to be cool bad and disposed of cooly, or a bad/good traitor thing. Like in the BBC Robin Hood. I disliked Alan a Dale for basically all of season one. But as soon as he turned traitor, I was like Yes! This guy is the coolest! And he became my second favorite character. Because I knew where he was coming from, I knew what drove him there (well, and I knew he was going back eventually). So I guess I just like having the bad guy's story.
And Snape's story is simply that he loved someone. Alan wanted recognition, security, money. He turned traitor. But he was essentially good, he was just kind of deluded. (Not completely, but I suppose this being a Snape thread I should probably stop talking about Alan.) Snape wanted Lily's love, or anyone's love. He was a very unloved kid. And he thought the way to do that was being a death eater (delusions, kind of, again).
As for post/pre DH, they are the same person for me. I already suspected the Lily thing, so this was just confirmation. And we don't really see Snape much in DH, besides the end where he's dying. I'm sure that had Harry had interaction with him after we knew the whole thing, he still would have treated him just as horribly as he had the entire rest of the series. We even see Snape ranting about him in the memories. He disliked Harry, just a good honest loathe. Nothing changed that. Including his love for Lily. He'd protect Harry, but as little as possible. He didn't want anything to do with him. So I still see him as the same person. It wasn't just some mask he wore because he really loved Harry and wanted to be kind, no, he hated him.

*flails* Yay for Eä for starting this revival business! We need it badly. I promised I would post yesterday and I didn't. Shame on me. I shall post in depth as soon as I get home from school today. If I don't you may all feel free to exile me from this club.

Well good on you all for not exiling me after I completely put off posting here. Although, I do deserve it.
Aha! The truth comes out, Eä. So you're not a fan of Harry? I suppose I'm not either. I did like where his character went in DH, but otherwise... well, that's a discussion for another time.
I had the same dilemma as Nurr over this quote. The last two lines especially gave me trouble, as I think Snape could fit both equally. All things considered I do think the last line has to pertain to Crouch, thus leaving the second to last for Snape. If Crouch hadn't been at Hogwarts then I surely would have thought Snape to be most fitting in his stead.
I agree with Nurr on the post/pre DH Snape. He was essentially my favourite character from OotP and onward, and I always had an inkling that there was something more to his relationship with Lily than was hinted at in OotP. So yeah, DH was more of a confirmation of my beliefs as well. All in all, he's still the same person as JKR wrote him.
Whether he's the same person to me is a whole other story. His love for Lily changed everything for me. I mean, if it had been a short crush I doubt I would love his character as much as I do now. JKR took a mean and merciless character and made him into something human through his love. Snape is two people for me. I like the merciless teacher Snape as much as I love the tragic and loveless hero. They both pluck at different heartstrings.

LOL, NuMa... great banner! I think it's a most fitting title since we are the only three left in the club-y to keep the Snape-y love and the discussions alive!
[And that is true... A-Lara-y... I'm not fond of Harry, but it is mostly because of Daniel Radcliffe... I hid it well, didn't I? ]

I LOVE that banner, NuMa! Whatever possessed you to make it?
[Eh, Dan is growing on me as an actor, but definitely not as Harry.]

Ea called us the Snape-y-teers, so I just felt like doing something with it. All for one and one for all!
Book 5 Harry annoys the heck out of me. He's alright in the others though. Movies...well, I've just got problems with the movies in general.

Welcome Lothy - greatiful banner!!!
We are four??? Where?
I've been meaning to post here since the recent movie came out but I think I might have secretly waited for someone else to do the tedious job of dusting off the cobwebs...
What's your favorite Snape-scene in the HBP?
Least favorite? And why?
I quite liked Snape's pep-talk to Draco in the corridor, but my favorite scene was the end when he leaves with the Death Eaters and he fights off a miserably pursuing Harry. He is so powerful now finally revealed as the Half-Blood Prince - and supposedly Voldemort-supporter!!
I wasn't so impressed with the Unbreakable Vow-scene... I loved it in the book, how Snape had no escape but had to submit to the vow or his cover would blow. But in the movie he seemed too passive - almost indifferent... Any comments on that?

Thanks EA! Ofcourse, all credit must go to Pandora xD
Personally my favorite had to be at the SlugClub Christmas Party, with Cormack vomiting on Snape's shoes. I can't explain it, but I just loved AR's performance in that scene.
I have to admitt that I agree with you about the Unbreakable Vow scene. I think it was because of Narcissa and Bellatrix mainly. Cissy should have been practically hysterical with fear and worry for Draco, whilst Bella was meant to be telling her sister about how much of an honour Draco had been given.

I actually thought Bellatrix was wonderful in the Unbreakable Vow scene, I don't know why but I enjoyed the little whispering and the taunting of Snape, Cissy on the other hand... blah.
My favorite Snape-y scene... it is hard to choose, hmm, I did like when Harry was beneath the landing of the tower pointing his wand up and then Snape pointing it at Harry. The looks exchanged and the silent words between them was something I cannot explain but it was almost heart-wrenching.
And with what was going on with Draco and Dumbledore it only made the scene much more intense. Sadly there weren't very many scenes to go off of, but like Eä said, I loved the pep-talk between Draco and Snape!

Teh Lothers makes four! You, Lar, and me. Ooh, and now Panneth is coming around too?? *dances* We grow, we grow!
I have to agree Ea, I loved the Malfoy and Snape scene. So tense and awesome and bada--. Plus he *was* great during the Slug Club party scene, so it was a nice extension.
Am I the only one who didn't love the last scene with him? Maybe it was partly because there was no battle, but...it just seemed rather anticlimactic. "I...am the Half...Blood..Prince." I felt like there should have been sparks or something. I dunno quite what I'm talking about here. I just wasn't that impressed.

I didn't like the very ending scene either with that anticlimactic scene of Snape saying he was the Half-Blood Prince... there was nothing after that.
It was this build-up and then.... nothing. Many people loved the movie, and I did too, but us true HP and Snape-y fans who know the books frontwards and backwards will be disapointed with this ending. I know I was.
