Pictures and Legendary Pictures later being announced in 2011 to be holding rights to the film. Filming for the movie was due to start in September 2012, with the film having a release date of October 18, 2013 and a working title of The Seventh Son.[6] Director Sergey Bodrov was announced as being attached as the director of the film, with Julianne Moore playing Madame Malkin.
