^Actually, I've been wondering about the scone too? I noticed my friend says 'scon' but I've always heard it pronounced 'scowne'???

I've always said Scowne too, I think maybe it's more of a regional thing, like saying the A in words like Bath or Castle as arr or ah.
I also had a friend who was adamant that only posh people said Scowne... ah well lol!

I've heard it pronounced both ways - in fact, my uni friends had this very debate. My argument is that it must be 'scon' because otherwise the joke doesn't work:
'What's the fastest cake in the world?'
'What?'
'Dunno, Scone...'
However, when balanced against how I usually speak, it probably ought to be 'scowne'
