This is an interesting topic. Gollum's death is certainly ironic. I do believe that people get what they deserve either in this life or the next. Karma most definently exists. And on the subject of destiny, I agree with Sinbearer's above comment. And I know it's been said already, but Aragorn did not live by the sword. He may have utilized the sword for purposes - good purposes, but he did not live by the sword. |

If you live by th esword, you make yourself far more likely to die by said sword. Its a mark of a good warrior that he or she has lived by the sword and not died by the sword. But I digress. In terms of the oringal post, its, as someone said, a Karma -like concept. In terms of there being natural laws, thats a problem to leave to philosophers. Suffice to say, tht Gollums love for the Ring and its eventual killing of him could be seen as a purely literary device, to show th edangers of too much of a specific thing. Those are my musings anyways. But yes. Its all down to numbers in the end Mephiston |

I do not really believe in Karma. but if you're a warrior, you have to fight. the chance to die in battle is so much bigger than if you're a local farmer, killed by a cow (or something else) and if survive the battle, there will come a new battle, a new "chance" to die. A warrior has to fight for his life (live by the sword) and there is just a enormous risk on the battle field to "die by the sword". Also the greatest warriors can be killed by an arrow. |

I think that's a very interestig thought. It definetely applies to Gollum, but not to other characters, like Aragorn. |
