Not sure if this is exactly the correct place for this, but I'll reply anyway.
I thought Eowyn was better in the books, because that is the "original" Eowyn that Tolkien wrote about. He gave Eowyn life, and gave her all her unique qualities. No actress would be able to portray her perfectly [although, Miranda did a fabulous job anyway. ]

I prefer her in the books too. In the books, she is more cold, more ambitious and desperate. The film portrayed this ok, but left out the bit where Eowyn gives up her life of warfare and plans on becoming a healer with Faramir. It's amazing how her character develops in the book. She gives up her ambition to find her real purpose in life, which is to give life, not take it away. She states: "The Shadow has departed! I will be a shieldmaiden no longer, nor vie with the great Riders, nor take joy only in the songs of slaying. I will be a healer, and love all tings that grow and are not barren." (RotK, Ch.5) Eowyn is more than a feisty girl with a big sword...she has the ability but finds no comfort in it.
The film gives little of this development in her character.
I'm not saying the films are awful. I really do enjoy them, but they leave some things out that I think are important to the depth of the story...

I personally can't choose. I love the characterization in the books, of course, and I really missed the deep level of change at the end in the scene with Faramir. However, I loved Miranda's portrayal and thought she added a wonderful depth of a different kind to the character.
Just MHO.

I agree with Firiel. I love her in both, because I think that the book really shows who she is, and since that is obviously the basis of the character in the movie, I'm inclined to say that is my favorite. But then and again, Miranda did a great job in the movies, especially with the part with the Witch-King.
What I'm really mad about is that there was NOTHING in the movies about Eowyn and Faramir, and VERY LITTLE in the extended edition!!!!

I give my vote to the book Eowyn without any doubts becouse it goes much deeper into the root of her mood and character. But honestly Miranda Otto did pull off a good scene in the movies...

In the book, def. Mainly because Tolkien gets inside her head and she just comes to life! Also, as others have said, there's more about her after the whole "no mortal man am i" incident.

I don't know... On the first thought I would say Éowyn in the movie, because she has such beautiful dresses, especially that white one in the Two Towers... but in the book she is calmer, cooler and you can feel more for her thoughts and feelings..

I like her better in the movies. You can tell she isn't so cold, and she has some humour. But she's always great!!! When I watch the movies, I watch the "Eowyn and Witch King" scene over and over again. I'm not there yet in the book...
