Yes, definatley. He took him blindfolded to the cave, but that was only because they didn't want others to know where it was. While they were there, Faramir treated him so kindly. He gave him a nice supper and all. But in the movie.......He's a jerk!

He was indeed nicer in the books..

Yeah....just think of it. Instead of a LotR marathon that lasted 12 hours, you'd have one that lasted a day and a half! Sweet!

The way I've always justified the differences have been that the book Faramir was indeed an "almost-Aragorn" He had a lot of the same qualities, mercy, nobility of purpose, and keen insight into people and motivations. If they "lowered" him a little in the movies, it was probably only because in the movie, there's no need to have another "Aragorn", because there's no time on to explain all about the kings and stewards and the huge historical backstory that you get when you read the book.

In terms of the movie, PJ and Fran Walsh did preserve the same qualities, but they show up in a different order. Some of them show up early, some of them later, rather than all in one chapter. This was undoubtedly done for dramatic effect. Not everyone had ever read the books who saw the movie, and it preserved some kind of element of surprise for them.

Faramir does let Frodo go, just not in the same location
Faramir does understand what is at stake, he just doesn't voice it in Henneth Annun.
Faramir does resist temptation
He does defy his father and is scorned.

If anything, both Aragorn and Faramir were made more three dimensional and accessible to theater audiences by the way they were scripted. I'm as much a purist as anyone, but the changes, in my opinion, were justifiable.

Well i think that in the book farimir was alot nicer but i think the reson in the movie why the made farimir sorta of mean is cuz i think that they need something for frodod and sam to have trouble with something!!!! But that is just me!!!

book faramir knew frodo had the ring and said he would not pick it up if he found it by the road side.somebody shouted "what?"in the cinema when he took them to minas tirith.its one thing the movie got so wrong

I prefer him in the book

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The changes made to Faramir were a necessary part of the plot development. Nothing would really have been achieved by Frodo and Sam meeting a nice guy who goes, "Aww, have to destroy a ring? That's too bad. Here, have some food." Not memorable at all. Whereas, in the movie: 1) We learn how Faramir desperately wants his father's approval, 2) We are even more impressed with him than we would have been if they had followed the book, because he lets Frodo and Sam go, KNOWING that he could have won his father's love if he had taken them to Minas Tirith. So really, this alteration of the book is more of a compliment to Faramir's characters. It makes him memorable, and you can sympathize with him.
