USA is on series 2, episode...four? Five? I don't know, my local PBS station doesn't carry it so I can't watch. >.< My mom watches and conveys her thoughts to me. It started up in early January though so probably ep 4 or 5.

At least in the UK we get it as a premier. Other countries wait months. Look at poor Taur, pulling her hair out and we know what happened months ago.

^ Rub it in, why don't you. I hate you guys. We're on episode 6, by the way. Although, actually, I'm not sure if the episodes directly correspond to the episodes in Britain. I know they weren't last season/series. How long are the episodes over there? Ours are an hour, except for the first which was two. Anyway, (SPOILERS! Just in case, though I seem to be the only one who watches it on USA TV ) we just got to the part where "Patrick" turned up then scarpered, Carson decided to leave to go with Mary when she gets married, and it was just revealed at the end of the episode that Mrs. Bates was found dead. Oh, and the war ended. That was kinda huge.

LOL, my mom literally just got done relating all that on the phone to me and then I saw your post, Taur. XD One day, I will teach that woman the concept of the word 'spoilers'. She watches Doctor Who, she ought to know what spoilers are and why they're bad, but no. I seriously don't get why I can't watch it on my dorm cable. We get TWO PBS stations--one broadcasting to Chicago, no less!--and yet they don't seem to do Masterpiece. So no Downton, no Sherlock...I'm thinking of sending them an email to ask why.

It's actually quite a strange turn of events... Normally I have to wait months or even years for certain American programmes to make their way over here... And then they get snapped up by Sky which I don't even have. (Glee, Supernatural, Criminal Minds... I'm looking at you guys... )

^^ LOL, the grass is always greener? You should have seen the happy dance I did when BBC America finally decided to start airing new Doctor Who episodes the same day that they air in the U.K.

I live in a house that constantly mourns the fact that shows they have been watching for years, suddenly get bought by Sky or new shows like Game of Thrones etc, being on Sky only, which is case you hadn't guessed, we don't have either.
So it definitely works both ways.

My life is complete. Sybil and Branson are together. Actually, this episode was so great I'm having trouble processing post-Downton life. Everything seems so small and trivial now... I think I've gone off the deep end.

Bumping this thread just to say, months later and I'm STILL obsessed with downton!! I make costumes, so I've made as many dresses as I can since then, planning more, and CAN'T WAIT for season three. *squeals in delight*

I actually stumbled upon this at my aunt's house in Texas. She watches it avidly, and she told me I would love it. I watched all two series and the Christmas special now (not quite legally..), and I do absolutely adore it! The first series is by far my favourite because it's more character driven.
Without giving anything away, series two really was not my favourite. There was too much going on, and I personally feel that many of the characters did almost a 180 in their characterisation. It was extremely disappointing in some ways. But, Bates and Anna... GAH. I love them!

I think my biggest problem with series two was that it was supposed to span years (6 or 8, I think?) but that the characters only reacted to things in a way that made it feel like months. Like seriously, Brandon waited for five years for Sybil to even decide she liked him? I get wanting to span the war, but I think they needed to find a way to make the characters change realistically.

^That, yes, that's my problem too, Nurr! For the amount of time that was spanned it was too unrealistic.

And then they completely ignored the war throughout most of it. Unfair. I'd have dedicated two whole seasons to trench scenery.
Actually, what bothered me was that during the Christmas Special, Matthew and Thomas are out at the shooting party, happily listening to the sounds of guns without even flinching. Because obviously they wouldn't have shellshock or anything. Nope. Completely stable. There was a reason why the shooting party went out of fashion after the war, but I guess reasons don't apply to Downton.
Yeah. All that lost character development. No me gusta.
