I agree whole heartedly with you both. I don't have anything to add. In a lot of ways, I really wish they'd just left it at CotBP, and never gone farther...

I've missed so much. I was gonna post before, but I stayed up way too late and was almost passing out from lack of sleep...anyways.
I feel like a total plank about those pics btw. The more I look at them, the more I see the photoshoppyness of it.
potr - Excellent points again. I can't really think what else I can add to this at the moment.
I did however finally get to see a pic of Chow Yun Fat (talk about being behind lol).

Wow, alot has happened here since I last posted. Let's see...(deep breathe)
Johnny's Fan and ErlisseEnethnin, Thanks for the pictures.
pirateoftherings, Oh, okay. I didn't mean to be hateful or anything. I just thought that I would let you know. Sorry about that.
Anyway, I will agree with you up to a point there. There is Alot of passion and dare I say it...maybe even fire or anger there. Though I do think that he is an overall good, nobel, and sweet person, I won't deny that those other traits are there. There is indeed much of Will that we have only gotten to see quick bits of. He just has to much bagage not to carry those emtions. I think that that bagage may come into play durring AWE. I think that he will just say that he's had enough and go all out for number one because he thinks that he's got nothing leaft to lose. I think that he will see it as he's lost Elizabeth to Jack (of all people), that he lost pretty much all of his family, and that he will get fed up with being the nice guy who comes in last all the time. If I was betting on why Will is going to be doing those darker things I think that that will be and probabley is the best explanation for such. As Altariel Frodo said though I will only allow it to go so far. As I have said before I won't stand for him becoming the next Davey Jones. However making him a bit more..."human"...would be nice. After all anger and darkness are human qualties. I think that this might be a very good thing so long as they don't take it too far. I'm ready for chartacter devolpment. You have made me even more excited about AWE. Thanks for the information.
Very good example. However he was doing that for the protection of others. So I can't really hold that against him. Though I certainly will agree that he has it in him to kill when he sees it best. May, I also point out that in one of the commentaries for CotBP somebody (Gore, maybe?) mentioned that wasn't it ironic that the goody goody was the first to "kill" somebody? I don't think that that was intinialy written like that. However I do think that they may use that to try to devolp Will's so called darker side.
As for the knife thing. I agree that that might have been why he was doing that.
Thanks for clearing up the picture thing.
Uh, actually I'm pretty spilt on that. In one way I'm glad that he's not just going for Elizabeth because as of late she hasn't treated very well. However neither has Bill. I don't really know how I feel about his motivations for going to the end of the world.
As for him trying to rescue Jack for Elizabeth I do think that he's partcialy doing it for a Elizabeth but I also think that Jack may want tio watch his back. I think that Will is going to be on the war path with some of the guns pointed at Jack. When Will finds Jack I think that Will's going to want to have a go at him for kissing his girl. The whole makng Will "darker" only makes me back that idea up further.
~RinielAranel~, I do agree that CotBP was leaft at a great place. Personaly though I'm glad that they decided to go ahead with sequels because that gives a chance for further character devolpment (which I like) and plus the more PotC I can see the better.

~RinielAranel~ wrote: I always liked Will because he was good. No, not 'good.' GOOD. As in, he thought about people other than himself and tried to do the right thing. And I never saw either Elizabeth or Will as dark or shady; Will was simply deeply in love, causing passionate statements, and Elizabeth had a rebellious streak. I never thought either of them would turn pirate.
And, in that sense, he is still good. He's not betraying them purely for his own profit- he's doing it to save his father. The intentions are good; the methods are questionable. But, "perhaps on the rare occasion that pursuing the right course demands an act of piracy, piracy itself can be the right course." I'm not saying that Will's in the right, because I honestly don't know. Perspective plays a major role in all three of the films. Everyone's in the right from a certain point of view, and everyone's in the wrong from a certain point of view. It all depends on who you're rooting for.
And I really hope that I'm not turning anyone away from PotC, because that's far from my goal. I simply don't want people going into AWE thinking that it's going to be all light and fluffy, because it's not. There are going to be some very serious themes dealt with, though, as always, there's plenty of humor to keep it from getting too heavy. I really don't want anyone to judge AWE (or really even DMC) before May 25th, because there's just no way to read it accurately until it's on screen. Even I'm not 100% sure what to make of AWE yet, and I know a good bit of what's going to happen (I did the same thing with DMC). When I first learned of Jack's death in DMC, I wasn't very happy about it at all, but when I saw how well it was done out...wow. It's now one of my favorite scenes. And when I read about the whipping scene in the DMC novelization, I didn't think anything of it, but after seeing how amazingly Orlando, Bill, and Stellan all acted it out, it became my very favorite scene. Likewise, there's a lot of stuff in AWE that just really can't be judged until it's seen on screen. There's only so much that can be gathered from words alone.
EDIT: Okay, so at least I didn't turn DD away...that's good

Hey, I'm still gonna be manically excited even if I hear that Will, Elizabeth and Jack all die and Pintel and Ragetti kill Davy Jones, each marry a strumpet, and become immortal. So it's hard to turn me off
160 days, incidentally! They're coming down!

Well I think having skeleton pirates, undead captains, weird sea creatures, a guy that commands the Kraken, Norrie becoming a bit of a..err..wreck, and various other things, in the previous two movies will probably convince people that AWE will have it dark moments.
Having said that, if I'm plunged into a dark, sinister and moody film, I for one will not enjoy it. There are 3 main reasons why Pirates is popular with the public - Johnny Depp, the story and the humour. If they suddenly turn AWE into a film like I described, on an unsuspecting public, then quite frankly, it will fail to do well. Hopefully, though this won't happen, although I'm not liking what I'm hearing about possible storylines.
Although I'm probably wrong, as I had a very bad feeling about DMC, which turned out to be the best film of the year.

The thing with DMC(and maybe AWE) is the darkness, i've had many friends coming to me and telling me about how dark DMC was. I simply shrugged and said, get ready for number 3.
They did turn the ship around and go in a different direction, sure they had the humour and stupid antics of Jack, and the repercussions of Will's and Elizabeth's responses but DMC was different. Since AWE and DMC are more closely related than DMC and CotBP, it makes it interesting. Im not sure how, but from what i've read about AWE, and from what i've seen in DMC and CotBP, CotBP is so much lighter. It has more of an ariy mood.
And now with the whole Will/Bootstrap, Jack/dead, Jack/Elizabeth, Norrington/Beckett, Davy/Tia, Davy/Kracken, Will/Flying Dutchman Barbossa/everyone, World's End/Chinese guy(forget his name) things... There are so many new things to think and wonder about. CotBP had three or four things, DMC and AWE have a lot more, its puzzling, interesting, and sometimes exciting. To me, it is a daunting task to try and imagine everything thats going to happen in AWE, i just need some time to think about everything...

DMC was really dark. They basically came up with a dark plot and threw in a bunch of mediocre slap-stick to make it all better. Sorry, I hate slap-stick.
In my case, I am both happy and sad at the same time that the PotC movies are taking such a dark, dramatic turn. I love dramas. Indeed, CotBP is the only comedy I like. Comedy does nothing for me. I take everything deadly serious. But really, the first movie was just so light-hearted and happy, and is just so much fun to watch! They've really kind of lost that, in my opinion.
But like I said, I'm hanging on for Will's sake. And to be honest, I'm insanely excited about AWE, especially now that I've seen Eragon. It's like "right, there goes that distraction... I can't wait for May 25!!!!!!!!" And PotR, you're not really scaring me off PotC... it's not like what happens is your fault anyway! I am firmly resolved to watch AWE, opening day if at all possible, and I'm determined to go into it with an unbiased mind. But if Will goes bad... I am no longer responsible for my actions.

That may be so, but I've seen too many film series etc start off on one road and then go down another. COTP set itself up to be a story with humour, bad happenings, but all is OK in the end. I don't want it to change into something that's so dark, everyone dies, favourite characters are made out to be monsters, yet everyone is supposed to be smiling at the end. That's not how it started out to be.
I don't want Jack for instance to be made out to be the devil incarnate. Ok, so he's a pirate but that doesn't mean he has to go run Elizabeth with a sword does it? So, if he does something so bad, I no longer smile when he appears on screen, that too me is the series taking a downhill road, completely different from where it started.
*is once again feeling worried about the next film*

pirateoftherings wrote: Drew's Destiny wrote: And Eru, those are photoshopped. Long story short, Toby Markham (awesome guy- love 'im to death), who's a professional costumer (go to www.sithcamaro.com to see more of his work) and Jack Sparrow portrayer, decided that it'd be cool to design his own oriental Jack costume based on the designs of others. So, he pulled one together, took a few pictures, then decided to see what it would look like if Jack did actually wear the costume. He photoshopped it, put the pictures on his site, and before you know it, it's all over the internet that Jack's got a "new asian outfit." He's long since told us that it was fake, but it takes a lot longer to kill a rumor than it takes to start one. (I had actually identified it as Toby long before he admitted to photoshopping it, but didn't say anything. The photoshop job itself is very good, and that wasn't actually what gave it away. Strangely enough, I identified him by his hands. The man has abnormally pale hands, and it always shows in his pictures. Weird, I know, but I can almost always pick out a TobyJack by looking at his hands. It's also not as evident in these pictures, but Toby has a much larger frame than Johnny Depp, which is the only reason he can't be a stunt double. He's more solidly built, and a bit taller as well.)
lol. I love Toby! He's the reason why I'm always on YouTube!

I LOVE W/E screencaps! They make me feel all...weird...inside. Sort of like pop when you shake it, and it get really fizzy. Ohhh, the look on Will's face! In the "Properly?" "Eagerly" scene, and when he kisses her on the beach, and *SQUEE* I'm so happy.
Sorry about that. Actually talking about something now. I've been obsessively perusing screencaps in general for the last couple days, and I'm now quite convinced that it'll be W/E. So now just to wait
