That's true. I feel like DMC and AWE are their own story apart from CoftBP though. I definently do not think of it as a trilogy. A 4th film would have a different feeling, but I think I would actually prefer it. I imagine it being more of a FUN film rather than a very dramatic one with all the love conflicts and such. It would just be a cool plot with pirates and a lot of funny stuff.

Well it does make sense for DMC and AWE to feel different from CoBP, they didn't even plan to do a trilogy, but they thought up some great plotlines after CoBP was a big hit, so really. CoBP could stand alone, but I like to think that the piracy theme throughout the movies tied them together.
I actually can't see them actually bringing in a light-hearted fluff film, ESPECIALLY after a film like AWE. It just wouldn't fly. They would compare it too much with the previous films.

Well, like you said, they came up with some great plots. I'm sure they could do that again. I'm not thinking of a "fluff" film. I'm actually thinking of something less fluffy than the others, without the sort of "teen romance." I liked the stuff between Davy Jones and Calypso though.
I honestly think something with Barbossa and Jack could be really great.

hmmm, I tend to have to agree with Kit again here... it wouldn't really fly for me if they got rid of all the drama and everything... I mean just Jack and Barbossa running around making us laugh? that just sounds... well, great at first but getting old pretty quickly. anyway, I didn't think of Will/Elizabeth as "teen romance". It was a very good, deep, touching love story.... and since they ARE two of the three/four main characters it's wrong feeling to continue on without them if they're kinda already astablished into that AWE end and that part of the story...
I mean at least in a prequel it feels more acceptable to not have Will and Liz... I mean it would be a totally different story than a sequel where they're already introduced as Jack's friends and all that. It would be from BEFORE he knew them so I would (at least) be more open to seeing it and more accepting of it not having Willabeth since that's not that part of the story yet... not like the after AWE sequel where they ARE/WERE part of the story! If that makes sense. but it all goes back to it not feeling quite like their trying to erase and or jump too far or anything in P4.
FRODOFAN wrote: Quote: Jack makes up like... I dunno, not many of the good scenes, IMO. What? Sometimes I think about just skipping all the scenes without Jack. Particularly in AWE. All that "how can I trust you?" nonsense with Will and Elizabeth was a bit too much. lol, and it's just about the opposite with me. like the multiple Jacks... anymore I pretty much fast forward through all that stuff... and then the Jack and Davy Jones stuff gets dull... not because of Jones because he is a unique character... it's just Jack can get old to me. and it also has to do with I don't necessarily HATE him (I really don't), I just think he's too overrated. Oh, that scene is an AWESOME Willabeth scene! A heartbreaker! But I was talking about scenes like my favorite scene of Will, Liz and crew fighting the Kraken in DMC… Jack‘s not in that much, The Singapore scene in AWE… once more it doesn‘t have much Jack, and there were a few other amazing scenes that don‘t have Jack in them. Kitoky wrote: I really can't see what good would become of the sequel. Or a fourth in the series, AWE wrapped that storyline up beautifully. The constant theme of the trilogy was the British Navy vs. Pirates, and that was all wrapped up in AWE where the Navy kind of lost.
Jumping into something with a completely different theme just wouldn't feel right for me. Even if it was the same characters. The big shebang with AWE was the peak and we saw all the falling action from that. I don't want another rising action.
A prequel would be okay, maybe it wouldn't trump AWE, but it'd be at a good level as CoBP/DMC.
In the first conversation/meeting between Beckett and Jack in AWE, and Beckett mentioned "But you know all about betrayal, don't you, Jack?" That just provided a HUGE OPENING for a prequel.
ummm, yeah, I absolutely second everything you just said! those are EXACTLY my thoughts (only better said ) to a T!

lol. There are certainly different people in the world.
To be totally honest the only scene I really do like with Will and Elizabeth is their marriage and I think it's the fact that Barbossa is marrying them that makes it for me.
Fast forward through the multiple Jacks?! Really? Now that is crazy... (so is the scene). lol.

I think one of the reasons why Jack's character gets a bit "old" is that we don't see very much character build/change in him? The difference is minuscule really. He's the same ol' Jack from beginning to end. A prequel would allow the writers an opening for some out of character-ness so that they can develop present-day Jack.

I think that's the best part about him. I wouldn't want him to change too much. But what he did for Will was pretty unexpected, though I guess you could say it was in his best interest as well, but if not for him Will would be dead.

A prequel? That is certainly interesting, maybe they could somehow sneak some more of Teague in there, he was such a lovely and amazing character, and putting him and Jack together again would be pure cinema magic.
If they make a prequel, no Will and Liz. If they make a fourth, no Will and Liz. If they decide not to make any more, no Will and Liz. Sounds good to me!
Jack... boring? Are you kidding me? He's the most un-stale character in the trilogy! And like Kit said, yeah, he doesn't change, but thats kind of the whole point. I don't remember the lines, but after the Brethren Court scene, Jack is talking to his father, and his dad tell him that the "trick is learning to live with yourself". I think he's talking about his son's personality, and how strange and unique he is.
But anyways. I'm rooting for a fourth over a prequel, I really hate prequels(except in the case of The Hobbit), and they just make me angry.

I’m still rooting for a prequel over a sequel. It just makes more sense that way, AND it's more understandable and acceptable why they wouldn't have or need Will and Elizabeth in the story.
FRODOFAN, lol, there sure are. Awww, their marriage is definitely up there in my book... But I'm a diehard Willabether anyway. And, yeah, that really brings Barbossa up even more to me. Although he didn't need to be brought up much anyway. he's one of my favorites to begin with.
It's not crazy at all! I just think it gets boring after a while... I mean it's weird to watch, but it gets just a little too much Jack for my taste.
Kit, that's it about Jack's character! Exactly! there's no building or development of his character except at the very end when Jones stabs Will (now in that scene I LOVE Jack! It really shows a whole different and real side of him he makes leaps and bounds there and he shows his real side) I guess I loved seeing the characters like Will and Elizabeth and Norrington develop and grow as characters. It's one of the most interesting things about the movies and it makes them more 3-D in my opinion.

Sometimes characters don't need growth. I don't know. Everybody wants character development in stories, but sometimes you just don't need it. I mean... how far could Jack's character develop? It could develop a lot, but would we REALLY want it to?

Personally for me, as the traditional adventure goes along, I want to protagonist to grow, if not a little. That's the thing for me. I can't sympathize with the protagonist, or enjoy his character in the adventure if I can't relate to him, so if there's some character change, just something that he's learned, I'll enjoy the film.
I'm not trying to say Jack's boring, I adore him, he's a hilarious, enjoyable character but for me, it's all about character development.
I want to be involved with the film, enwrapped with the characters, not just be entertained with funny events, witty lines, and silly notions.

I can see that. I guess I do relate to Jack. He's a lot like me in ways. Maybe that's it.

^I don't think I need to add anymore to what has already been said. that's pretty much exactly how I feel as well. I love watching characters grow and change as the story moves along. and Jack simply doesn't grow or change enough... well, until the final battle and all that (and even a little before then when he and Will have their deal. ) then Jack seems to grow and learn and even change a lot!

An AWEsome plot would be to mix NT 3 and POTC 4 together. Since it has been rumored that both of Disney's blockbusters want the FOY, why not let them both have the adventure. For example Pirates 4 could be released in its traditional spot of early July and find Jack and Barbossa(Will and Elizabeth?) could find the fountain of youth. Then in December National Treasure 3 could be released and when Ben Gates arrives at the FOY he finds pirates guarding it. This would be a hilarious position to put all the characters in and it would be cool to see who would outwit the other(go Jack and Barbossa). Although this is unlikely, both movies are written by TnT and are Bruckheimer films. Just my humble idea.

I think I would pass out from the awesomeness of having Riley, Ragetti and Barbossa onscreen all at once. Not to mention Will, if he showed up.
