SPOILERS SAY WHAT

I didn't see the episode until today, and everyone was telling me about the huge twist and whatever, and then I found out it was just that Morgana was Uther's daughter. And this did not come to much of a shock to me, as in quit a few legends, Morgan le Fay and Arthur are half-siblings. So, big whoop, writers. :P

And as much as I love Katie McGrath, I WISHED Merlin would have just let her die. It was pretty necessary, it was an accident, just let it go. I blame Bradley!tears utterly. No one can resist them. Dangit, Bradley. Making Merlin all guilty and stuff.

I loved this episode; really really loved it. Uther remains awesome, but he's a jerk. I don't know how I reconcile these feelings, but somehow it works. :-D

That scene with Arthur raging on the practice field, and Merlin just leaning against the wall, in the rain? Gorgeous. Ripped my heart in two.

Sooo, Morgana is Uther's daughter. I loved Morgana's and Morgause's opposite reactions. Morgana's all 'How could he do this, I hate him, my emotions are in turmoil" and Morgause is totally overjoyed at the possible political ramifications of it. It was a nice contrast. Morgana's very passionate and upset, Morgause cool and business-like.

I didn't expect to like this episode, but there was some really good moments in it. I loved the fact that they brought back the magical staff from 1x07 'The Gates of Avalon'. Continuity is a beautiful thing!

I rather liked Elena. She was refreshing, and I'm glad they didn't put all of her quirks down to the She/Chi/Che/Shi (how do you spell that?) inside her. She seemed to have a good relationship with her dad, and she was fairly grounded, and balanced, and had a casual attitude towards all the 'proper' way to act, and...I don't know. She just caught my attention.

And, Merlin advising Arthur. Great speech! :) I like how they're showing that Arthur is coming to rely on Merlin for his advice and support.

I'm glad that Morgana finally cottoned on to the fact that there's something between Guinevere and Arthur, but I'm rather ticked off with the way she responded; she was looking to see if there was a way to use this against Arthur/Camelot. It's like she now sees everyone in Camelot as, if not her outright enemy, at least just the means to an end. Has she forgotten who Gwen is? They've been friends for years. They fought together at Ealdor, they were allies in smuggling Mordred out of Camelot, Gwen urged Morgana to go on in 2.04. What happened to 'more than just my maid'?

I don't know, I just don't get why she doesn't think that maybe, maybe Arthur or Gwen don't have the same hatred of magic that Uther does. At least not to the same degree. She has a half-brother who spent a year searching desperately for her, who helped her get a little druid boy out of the city. Why doesn't she think maybe he'd back off the magic thing a bit for his freaking sister?

And on that note, if she heard Uther's 'I am your father' confession, then she heard that he was willing to compromise his stance on magic to heal her. If he's willing to do that, compromise his values like that, then maybe if she talked to him, he'd be willing to ease the rules for her. He tore apart his kingdom looking for her, for an entire year. He clearly loves her.

On the other hand, maybe she just doesn't care.

I know, this comes across as very anti-Morgana, but I'm honestly just trying to figure this character out. I don't understand her. She seems to think she's taking the moral high road as compared to Uther, but really, from what I've seen this season, all she's doing is taking a different road, and her heart is as filled with hatred as Uther's, and she's going to take him down, and doesn't care who she hurts in the process.

I read a comment once about it being a theme in this show that fear leads to hatred and bitterness. It happened with Uther and magic, and I guess it's happened to Morgana now.

If you actually read that disorganized venting, I applaud you!

CENRED. CENRED, I LOVE YOU. WRITERS, I LOVE YOU. :notworthy: Seriously, I am so glad they brought him baaack!

I really, really hope they don't kill Gwen's brother off; it would be nice for her to have some familial support.

SPOILERS YEEEEEEAH

3.06

I think this episode was pretty much filler. There really wasn't much to it. Not a whole lot of drama, not a whole lot of comedy, it was just chilling in the middle. I mean, it wasn't a bad episode, I loved the cute little Gwen/Arthur moments, and we got more Bradley!tears (which I can never resist). It was just...chill.

LOVED the Merlin/Arthur moment where it was like, "what do you think?" "It's not my place" "I'm asking you." "IF you really want my opinion, I think you're mad, I think you're all mad." It was a really nice scene with Arthur finally trusting in Merlin, and the way Colin delivered those lines were just so brilliant.

I completely agree about Morgana though. Her character just isn't making any decisions that make sense anymore. It's like all the development of her character previous to this season were just thrown out the window. What was the point of even having her in previous seasons if they were just going to chuck it in the bin? She doesn't care about anything. I think it's a huge failing of the writers for her character.

Also, I pretty sure it's Sidhe. Not sure why, but I think that's what it is.

CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE. YESSSSSS

WHOO FILLER

It was a cute episode. :D I liked Elena a lot, and liked that it wasn't the typical "someone magical trying to take the kingdom" thing that happened a lot. She had no clue, they just wanted to do their duties. So that was a refreshing change.

Agreed about Morgana on all counts. I think they just know that she's the villain, so she's going to be a villain gosh darn it! I feel like she should still really care for Arthur and Gwen, but no. She needs to see them as pawns she can move around to get power. Seriously? She is able to think of killing Arthur? That hurts.

And I just loved Merlin advising Arthur. The whole destiny bit, and the "I think you're all mad" were brilliant.

So excited for Cenred!

I think that's the only explanation that makes any sense; that her character just doesn't make any sense any more.

I read an essay on LJ from the POV of someone who never fully bought into the Morgana/Gwen or the Morgana/Arthur friendship in the first place. And I suppose if your perspective is that she never truly cared about them in the first place, then her character in S3 would make a lot more sense.

But I can't see it. I think the writers just really fell off the wagon.

Only a few more hours till Cenred!

I liked last week's episode with Cenred. It was a little over the top evil Morgana again, but it was cool to meet Gwen's brother.

But, moving on. This week was pretty awesome! Go Gwen! I love that she worked it out and was snooping all by herself. And, of course, getting Gwaine again is always a plus. The "Courage, Magic, Strength" thing was cool too. Only issue was I could really see LotR influences with this one. The others I've only seen little fragments and really not thought about it, but this one there were tons. We had Sauron's Tower with nazguls, Galadriel's star glass, and the plains of Golgoroth.

Over the top Morgana is consistently getting annoying now. I'm really kind of hoping we don't have to put up with another season of ridiculous evil smiles. For the Cenred episode, my boyfriend and I counted how many times she did that, and the final count was like, 18 or something. That's a BIT overdone, don't you think, guys? We know she's evil, you don't need to remind us every ten seconds with her smirking away like a fool.

Anyway, I was TOTALLY thinking about the Nazgul the entire time we saw the Wyverns. The whole thing gets more LOTR-y as we go. But yes, I also agree that it was really nice to finally see Gwen work something out. It really seems in the series that everyone is dense except Merlin, who just happens to be incredibly lucky in his timing. I was really hoping that the "Courage, Magic, Strength" would click with Arthur, that he might actually work it out. But alas, that'll probably never happen.

I really liked this episode; we got Cenred, being awesome as usual, Morgause in the red dress (YAY! :-D ), ELYAN, some great Merlin/Morgana interaction, and a really nicely played, understated but sweet A/G moment in the woods.

I really liked all the references to Tom in this episode; he wasn't a great character, but I thought the relationship between Gwen and her father was sweet.

I loved Gwen's hair.

NOW. ELYAN. I loved him, personally. I really liked the way they played the scenes with him and Gwen, the vibe they gave off. So here's to him staying in Camelot!

I also liked Morgana's helpless, concerned look at Morgause after she was knocked unconscious by the falling rocks. Nice touch.

And, finally: Morgana, please stop smirking. Yes, you're good at it, but we get that you're bad and...it's getting annoying.

3.08

I have to agree with the LotR similarities; I could have handled the Dark Tower and the Wyverns, but the 'Phial of Everlong' just tipped the scales too far. Disappointing.

As Nurr and Tar said, it was great to see Gwen taking some initiative to find out exactly what is going on with Morgana.

I loved all of Gwaine and Merlin's scenes, especially the one at night, with the pheasants and "Arthur's lucky to have us." "Not Arthur." All together now: "awwWWW!"

"Are Gwen and Morgana here too? Are we going to have a surprise party?"

Last but not least: the scene in the field, with Gwaine's banishment, and Arthur half-heartedly sticking up for his dad. Now, since Arthur's going to have to find out about Merlin sometime, and going to have to be okay with it, there's going to be some shifting in his attitude towards magic, and I'm curious as to how they'll handle Arthur's feelings towards Uther, as both father and king. It could be interesting to see how they handle him rejecting many of his father's morals and ideals, while at the same time keeping some sort of love for him.

All in all, one of the best episodes of the series.

I STUPIDLY READ SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON FINALE AND OMMAGOSH, I WANT 3X10-13 NAOW PLEASE!! *flaps hands*

Not much posting here. Apparently we didn't have much to say about Gaius in love. :teehee:

And Arthur in love? First off, I'm so glad Gwen is being all smart and figuring more and more out. And that she has told Merlin, so they can be all smart and working together again. There has been so much Merlin/Gwen friendship this season! It's been wonderful.

Secondly, Arthur's eyes are so perfectly blue when he and Gwen are on their day out together. :P

Aw, Gaius in love was kind of cute, I must admit. But...eh.

3.10

I...had very mixed feelings about this episode; I had high hopes for it but it seemed contrived. The writers decided that it was time for Uther to find out about A/G, so they had Arthur take Gwen on a picnic. On a picnic. I don't know why I find that so unfathomable but it just seems...unfathomable.

Also, I didn't like that Arthur was willing to give up the throne. I am an A/G shipper, but that seems out of character for Arthur. He takes his duties very, very seriously, and I just don't buy it.

BUT, Old!Merlin was pretty loltastic, and I loved how everybody kept doing these double takes. Do I know you? :-D Plus, Merlin got a chance to vent and someone finally caught Morgana smirking!

I thought the Gaius in love episode was a filler. One of the much better ones we've had, but mostly filler. It was cute, but not really of any substance.

SPOIIILLLLLLLERS

And I don't care if it was contrived or not, the picnic scene was freaking adorable. Arthur was gorgeous, and Gwen was sweet, and it was adorable. The scene where she was sentenced to death and Arthur kisses her and whispers "I will always love you" as they're pulled away...call me a romantic, but I was all over that.

When Gwen was like "Morgana was smiling" I legitimately corrected her. "Smirking. She was smirking." And I totally agree with Old!Merlin being loltastic, there's really no other way to put it. It was pretty ridiculous. But I did not understand why Merlin didn't just magic himself out of the "impenetrable" dungeons. It wouldn't have been that hard to hide away while he waiting for Gaius to make the potion. That whole time I was just like "...seriously?"

Also, next weeks idea is OLD, writers. Yes tournament, yes magic, yes Uther/Arthur almost dying. Bleh.

Agreed. They really need more creative ways of killing off Uther besides having a tournament where someone uses magic to get to the top or by smirk. In fact, let's just skip the entire plot of magical people trying to kill someone.

And, the romantic in me enjoyed the episode, even if the logical thinking part of my brain didn't. It was fun. Not epic or fulfilling, but fun.

Yes, when I saw the next episode is another freaking tournament, I was so upset. This is such a ridiculous, contrived idea, that was only cool the first 9000 times you did it, writers. Come on, stop being lazy, write some freaking plot.
