If I happen to really, really like a movie (like Pirates 3) I'll go buy my own copy, or ask for it for my birthday or something. With some other, more "family" movies (like Ratatouille or National Treasure) my mom will just buy then when she can find them sorta cheap. And then we have about 2 dozen Disney animated classics on VHS that we really should either buy the DVDs of or burn onto a DVD ourselves...  _________________

If it's a movie I really, really like or absolutely love I always want to own it on DVD. Preferably the Special Edition version. Sometimes I buy DVDs without even having seen the film because I know it will be great anyways. I also tend to tape a lot of films off TV (since my wallet doesn't exactly allow me to splurge on DVDs as often as I'd like). I'm also an avid [illegal] downloader of films too [proud pirate here lol]

I technically don't buy many movies... because I spend all my free money on books [bad self]... but when I do buy a movie, it's usually because 1. I like it, 2. my parents don't already have it, and 3. I have extra cash.

so with that most anything can go, but when I go to the theater or actually buy the dvd it's a little different. 
to go to the theater for a movie it has to be one I'm really excited about or I've heard REALLY good things about. And to buy a dvd most of the time it's a movie I've rented and I liked it enough to think I might want to watch it more than once or else it's a movie I saw in the theater that I adored.
