Horrible news... it totally ruined my day. He was such a wonderful actor, he'll definitely not be forgotten for a long time.

He never stuck me as that kind of celebrity. He seemed like a pretty cool, down-to-earth guy. I found out almost an hour ago and I'm still in shock. He was such a good celebrity that I don't want to believe it. I mean, you're waiting to hear that about brittney spears or someone, but not him.

I can't say I was a huge fan of him, nonetheless I was very shocked when I heard the news. At first I wasn't sure if they'd gotten the right bloke... I just don't understand. Heath was a fantastic actor with a very promising future. He seemed okay, but I guess we didn't see everything going on. Anyway, he shall most certainly not be forgotten.

Gosh... I am still in shock. I cannot believe it. I kind of feel numb... I have been ever since I heard the news on another message board early this afternoon. I didn't believe it at first, because it was on a celebrity website, MSNBC and the other news sites didn't have the news up yet.
I feel so badly for his family and friends. I loved him as an actor, even though I've only seen a couple of his films. I am seriously going to cry when I see Batman...

It's so weird. I've been talking about this with you guys for hours now... I read the headline on that article and it was like WHA?! ... I knew already but it was like I hadn't really taken it in.... it's just hard to think he is dead, when a few hours ago he was alive.

DamsonRhee: Thank god I left the room before they showed the body being brought out. I would have been a mess.
JF: That's EXACTLY how I feel. Every time I see the headline it sinks in a bit more, but is still a total shock.
I don't know how to say how I feel really, not that it's been a few hours. It's just a little bizarre how I never met the man, but he's a part of my everyday life to the point that everything has gotten slightly weird. Example: I can see my Knight's Tale DVD on my shelf, my wall has a print out of the Dark Knight poster with the Joker handing up, and I have Heath icons sitting on my desktop from a while back. All of this has become slightly creepy, you know?
And it's just impossible for it to really sink in, because it's not like a family member dying in that you no longer see them daily or whatever. We've never seen him in real life, will never see him in real life, so there's no reason to believe that he no longer exists.
Father keeps telling me not to obsess about it, but I can't get it out of my mind. Though I will say that this is it for the night when it comes to posting about it.

I just had a friend spaz out at me because I was sad about this, she said this to me:
"People die every day and you only care about this one. He never did anything special, he didn't save anyone's life, he didn't do charity work, or help the planet in any way. What's wrong with you? He's just an actor. You never knew him or met him. Normal people die every day, and you never stop to think about them, or the families that they left behind. You only give a rat's arse about this guy because he was famous."
It only added insult to injury. I was really shocked that she would lash out at me because of this...

Aww, that wasn't very nice. I mean, I understand what she's saying....But in response to that he did do charity work and help the planet, he inspired people to go into acting and he played in some very controversial roles i.e Brokeback Mountain, which I'm sure gave hope to others....Yes, Death surrounds us all the time, but sometimes it takes a death of a famous person, like Heath Ledger, to make us realize how precious life actually is.
It's hard to imagine such a monumental icon in acting dying so young. As I was telling MB on MSN, I was expecting to grow old watching him act in movies, like my parents with George Clooney and Sean Connery, and perhaps my children telling me, as I often tell my mom, "You're crazy for swooning over him, he's so oolllddd" and my mom's response being "You've should've seen him when he was younger....he's still gorgeous though..."
*sigh* It's far too depressing for me...I think I'm still in denial.

I'm so like you guys, right know... I heard it at the news about 1pm today (it's 5.30pm here right now), I was washing my dishes and when I heard that I just stop everything I was doing and sat. I really couldn't do anything else...
I mean I wasn't a huge fan of his, you know, I just saw the Patriot (that I didn't like that much by the way) and I've loved Brokeback Mountain to tears... but still... he's like my brother's age, and... it's so young to die! When people are famous, despite reason you kind of put them on a piedestal, which is ridiculous of course, but this is part of the system... Like the very word "star", it says it all...
Well but no, there're just human beings... With their problems, joys, everydays life... and they can die... But still, it's so young. Too young.
And yeah my first thought went to his daughter and this made me cry. I don't know if he decided this himself... Perhaps... And frankly, I don't really mind, it doesn't change anything. I'm just sorry for him and above all for his family and child.
The cinema also looses one of its most talented hope.
I hope he finds peace and rest where he is now, he had the face of an angel and I believe he's among them.
And, Darky, I kind of understand your friend, no life worthes more than an other one but no one deserves to die more than an other one.
This may be a good occasion to think about every young person of your age that dies somewhere in the world because of war, disease or misery because their lives meant as much as Heath's...

I heard yesterday but I still can't believe it. I didn't know his work that well, but in interviews he struck me as a very good, honest person and one that I could identify with, which is unusual for an actor. I really respected him and how he strived to be something more than a stereotype. I was a little comforted to hear that it wasn't something stupid and terrible like a drug high and it was more likely an accidental overdose.
I still don't want to believe he's dead, but, rest in peace and find happiness where ever you are, Heath.

Yeah, one day after he passed away and I can't bring myself to believe that he's dead. I simply can't accept that he is dead. I'm hoping that they got someone else or Heath might just emerge from somewhere, saying that it wasn't him. Like everyone said, he was so promising and had so much talent. I'm afraid I only seen him in The Patriot but yet I liked him a lot in it. It's just unbelievable. And he has a two year old daughter...I just can't imagine the pain she must be going through now. I send my condolences to his family but in particular his daughter.

I couldn’t believe it when I read the note my sister wrote before she left for school. I immediately checked the news and it said he probably died of an overdose of pills… Why? Why would such a great man, with a promising career and a little daughter do such a thing? The question has haunted me until now. Was he depressed or anything like that?
I liked him a lot in his movies. Especially Casanova, Ned Kelly and the Brothers Grimm. My thought are with his family, friends and his daughter.

I somehow think suicide has been ruled out now. For a start there was no note, and I don't think you'd kill yourself just before your massuese arrives.
As for dug-overdose.. well it's not drugs in as much as cocaine and things like that. Accidentally taking the wrong amount of sleeping tablets or taking them two lots too close to each other... ah, it's still sad, but it'sbetter to know he didn't mean to kill himself I think.

I was kind of shocked when I heard about it yesterday. I always thought he was a pleasant actor, just not an absolute favorite, but...still...it was pretty shocking and sad. I guess for me the big deal is that I've always heard about tragic celebrity deaths (people like James Dean or River Phoenix or so many others), but this is the first really big-name celebrity of my generation - a name I've simply grown up knowing - to die like that. It's really, really freaky...I mean I know it sounds bizarre, but just going back and looking at some banners I've made of him, it's just really weird thinking "the guy in that banner just DIED."
Poor Heath. RIP.

That's what I was saying to my brother last night. There have been over the years various people (young and not-so-young) who just suddenly died - James Dean, Marilyn Monroe etc - and the shock of their deaths and the people who had grown up with them or were just beginning to know them, and how they felt, it must be pretty similar to how most of us are feeling.
If he was known to drive cars fast or take drugs or drink, it might not have been such a shock, but as it is.... it's a tradegy I think. It's the other kind of people that seem to live to be old.
I just heard that the produces of Dark Knight have confirmed he was signed up for the next Batman film.
