I get the impression that most people are sort of sick of him. Maybe this film were serve as a sort of come back for him.

The thing about Tom Cruise is he's been so strange in his personal life lately that I think it's difficult for him to be taken seriously in his films. I liked him in War of the Worlds, Mission Impossible, and Interview with a Vampire, so I think he can at least do an adequate job in this movie, if only because he looks rather dashing in an army uniform.

After being exposed to such films as Schindler's List.
This movie will make me cry, out of pain for the genre that it's in.
If you're going to show the hideousness that is the genocide of WW II.
DON'T RELEASE ON CHRISTMAS DAY
Who ever made that plan, should be drowned. I'm sorry, but the nature of the subject deserves a January, or even a February release. Not Christmas Day.
And where are the German accents? If you are a German, and you are working for Hitler, THERE IS GOING TO BE A GERMAN ACCENT WHEN SPEAKING IN ENGLISH.
I'll probably end up boycotting it.

And ratings? Are you really concerned about ratings? This is a movie about the genocide of those of Jewish faith, cripples and homosexuals. And you're worried about a rating? If they are to portray the genocide properly, there is no rating for the crimes that were committed. You can't possibly place a rating on the horrors that took place, the unjust killing of millions. And I know the main plot is not the fact that all those people were killed, but it is related, and if it doesn't show up. I will be very dissapointed.

I agree, I don't totally understand the Christmas release date. But I don't think you should write if off just because it might not have the Holocaust in it. I don't know how much of it they're going to include, but if they don't, I can see why. Movies like Schindler's List and The Pianist are only for people of a certain stomach, and I think they require a little emotional preparation on the part of the viewer. What's more, I think something like the Holocaust deserves the whole movie, and not a side story to a different plot. And, as you mentioned, it isn't about the Holocaust. They wanted to tell a little known story about a group of Germans who sacrificed their lives in their attempt to stop Hitler; in other words people who did the right thing even if it wasn't the easiest thing. After all, a lot of evil, unjust things happened during WWII... in fact over three million evil, unjust things... but there was also tremendous courage and heroism. And this is a story of heroism.

In short, give the movie a chance.

Yeah Taur, very true. As to the no accents....

Well, to be perfectly honest, they should all be speaking German. As that would lose about half of the audience, they're not. So it makes sense to not have them have any sort of accent. The audience knows they are speaking German to each other, so they shouldn't be speaking an accented English to each other. Just my take on the thing.

I saw it. The accent thing was a bit distracting, but it's really not so bad once the movie gets going.


Like people have said, it's not about the Holocaust. It's mentioned, but that's not the main focus of the movie. It takes place largely in and around Berlin, and the main characters are not attempting to do anything about the concentration camps (yet), they're trying to kill Hitler.


The Christmas release date, I can partly understand. It's just a reminder that while we're celebrating whatever holidays we celebrate, there were people way back when that didn't get that kind of happiness, and the world was a more screwed up place. Perhaps it wasn't the best of release dates, but I wouldn't go hating on them for it.


I thought it was actually a very good movie. You know the whole time that they're going to die, but I was still on the edge of my seat throughout the entire film. Give it a chance, people. You might like it.

Very good movie. I highly reccomend it. Very accurate plus the added bonus of no blood, no gore, and no sex! It's just a little bit tense, as are most movies having to do with failed plots. I liked it.

School ate my life. *sigh*

I'm even more excited to see it now! My sister and I were going to see the it the day after Christmas, but it turned out we could only go to a ridiculously late show time.

I'm glad to hear the accents aren't as annoying as they are in the trailer. I was counting on that.

that's what i was very happy to discover.

i watched in thinking it was all about hitler and the holocaust. those kinds of movies haunt me so i try to avoid them, but this was very well done! i didn't know all those potc actors were in it. me and my friend were having some fun with trying to recognize them. i also didn't know that there were that many planned assassination attempts!! and and they never touched hitler enough to kill him. those people were very heroic, i wish i could meet their descendants or something! i love history. . .

ya, the accent thing made me giggle. they were obviously not german. the part that made me sad was that the wife left with all those kids! and the newborn baby! and they were so in love!
