Somehow lower-quality graphics leave more to the imagination. I've never seen any of the movies, but I have to admit, the idea of new actors playing the characters is a wee bit hard to take. McCoy is my...favorite. *turns pink*
looks are easy to nail, but character similarities? that's a bit harder. I guess it's why i'm more or less indifferent to the film. If I go in expecting nothing, and come away with a feeling of "They did that great; the actors were awesome" or "that stunk; the actors were terrible" then I think I'll be better off....
worked with Narnia.

Okay, so I've only been a closet fan of Star Trek for a few months now and have only seen the original series in it's entirety as well as The Motion Picture, Wrath of Kahn, and Search for Spock. I'm still trying to catch up. I do love Star Trek though and I can't wait to see this new movie. Has anyone else watched the new trailer that came out with Watchmen in the US?

I am a definite 'Trekkie', my favorite series is the "Next Generation", but I do like the original series. I also really liked Spock, actually before I knew of Legolas. I am sooo looking forward to seeing this movie, it is on my top list of things I want to see.

Saw the trailer with Watchmen yesterday. Wasn't expecting it tbh..just thought it would be the usual Trek trailer. So I was kinda left awed.
Nice moment with Bones like O____o at Kirk sitting in the Captains chair lolol
I'm an old Trekkie fart..so I've been looking forward to this for a long long time.

Even I had this holy *beep* moment when Kirk sat in the captain's chair. It really was intense and epic. To be honest, I feel sort of weird just coming out of nowhere and saying I'm a fan. I bow down to all of you who have stuck with it for so long.

Aww, bless you. That's what I've been looking for. So, what are you most looking forward to seeing in this movie?

Ooo lots of things
- Seeing the new design of the Enterprise in action. Trailers have whet my appetite and I, unlike a lot of older fans, loved the design of her.
- Karl Urban's portrayal of such an iconic character
- Zachary Quinto...for the same reason as Karl
- Simon Pegg <3 as Scotty
- I'm genuinely interested and taken with Chris Pine. There are just some frames in the trailers that scream James Tiberius Kirk. He has the rebellious attitude down pat which is great.
- The story. Watching it unfold against a backdrop of pure undiluted science fiction awesomeness.

I didn't know this movie had a thread. Ok.
I'm so fangirling this movie like WHOA! I love it. I've seen it too many times. I'll probably see it more. I think Chris Pine is to die for, and was thinking about seeing the movie just to watch him, but it turned out to be so much better than I thought it would be. And yay for Karl Urban! And Zachary Quinto! And pretty much everyone else!
So I was browsing around Memory Alpha (the Star Trek wiki page) and found out that the world premiere was in Sydney in early April. But apparently, even before the premiere in Sydney, there was the real premiere. In AUSTIN. WHERE I LIVE.

Granted, I wasn't a somewhat-Trekkie (and I'm not even sure I'd go to see The Wrath of Khan at the Alamo Drafthouse) at that point, but I'm still kind of upset. And Leonard Nimoy was there??
Here's another page that actually has video of him:

Surprised it took this long to bump the thread considering how many people on here are fangirling over it
It is an absolutely awesome movie and is on par with Wrath of Khan for sheer greatness.
I was thrilled with everyones performances and had a little internal squee at all the nods and easter eggs they gave to the original series (and others).
The whole cast was wonderful. I can't find fault in any of there characterisations at all. Zach, Simon, Zoe <3
Karl WAS the absolute best though. He just nailed McCoy in every conceivable way. Chris Pine took me by complete surprise though. I wasn't sure what to expect from him as Kirk. But I bought it, hook line and sinker. My fave part with PineKirk was the end with him in the yellow officers shirt getting into the chair and his line before that to Bones was pitch perfect Shatner, wether intentional or not I don't care. It was fab.
I have no probs with Spock/Uhura as it was supposed to be canon anyways. But the execs completely balked at the idea, so dropped it. Zoe and Zachary have such a wonderful chemistry so it was really sweet to see.

I just have to say this… when Karl Urban first came on the screen I recognized him (I hadn’t known he was in the movie before then actually ) because of his beard but then later on when we see him and it’s gone I started to second guess myself. Lol he looks a lot different without it. Very nice.
I believe Raivynn captured the way I feel about this movie the best:

I had figured I would like it since I knew it would remind me of when I was a huge Trekkie when I was little but I didn’t figure I would love it quite as much as I do. It was excellent. I don't know why a lot of die-hard Trekkies hate it... I thought they did a brilliant job making it and the characters like the series and yet still keeping it new and fresh. *shrugs* And it’s gotten me wanting to re-watch the original ST and TNG. I will have to at some point.
wait, you mean Spock/Uhura was suppose to be canon in the original series?

I thought the Spock/Uhura stuff was fine, although... the 'I'll be monitoring your frequency' line was so full of cheese I could hardly stand it.

Yep it was. Also the first on-screen interracial kiss was also supposed to be Spock/Uhura, but apparently William Shatner decided it should be Kirk to do it So yeah no problem with it at all, because now in this less conservative time you can have that without much fuss. It was also fun to see Kirk NOT get the girl for a change XD
Re-watching the shows has been easy for me as two of my cable channels are showing TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise every day. I've grown to really like Enterprise, whereas when it first came out I was very reluctant to watch it. Trip is teh Man! lol
I reallyreallyreally want the TOS re-mastered on blu-ray. Some of the stills and clips I've seen just blow my mind.

So, I totally loved this movie. I get to fan-guy it, because of how well all of the actors managed to emulate the originals, because of the fantastic CGI, because of the fantastic music, and the explosions, and because of more of the explosions.
Though, I have to say that the part of the movie that I am most amazed about (I still get a sense of awe when I think about it) is how evocative the opening sequence is--I can't think of another movie that so successfully caught my emotions and pulled me in so early on. It was amazing. O_O
But yeah, I pretty much love everything about this movie, though the green-skinned girl still kind of creeps me out. o_O
Just fyi, I'm pretty sure they modeled the gait of the first creature that attacks Kirk (on the planet he's marooned on) on a bear's gait, though it's still slightly different. I think that could be used as proof that I enjoyed this movie too much.

The opening was so so emotional. I very almost cried.
You're also like the first male that I know of to get creeped out over an Orion female
