I wouldn't have been able to think of Viggo as Dustfinger, he's so firmly identified as ARAGORN in my subconscious. And Aragorn and Dustfinger are two very different characters. It would have been interesting, though.

And yeah, Any Serkis fits the decription, I just don't know if he'll be quite the Capricorn I imagined. Probably deliciously evil, though :)

I haven't finished Inkspell yet, but Inkheart was pretty good. The length of it almost killed me tho! :swoon: I really want to see the movie - I hope it will be better than the books though. Cornelia sorta dragged things out too long for my liking...

LOL, that's hilarious, because that's the exact opposite of what I thought. I was angry at her in her first books for rushing the ending... and I thought Inkheart could have been taken a bit slower too.

Viggo... no. Viggo is not a Dustfinger kind of guy, in my opinion. Viggo is soft-spoken, gentle, and always has this wee invisible halo squeaking above his head. Even when he's bad, or plays a bad role... he still is like that.

Dustfinger on the hand, is mischievous, a bit crazy, passionate, and has that edge to him where you never know if any moment he might slip into the Dark Side [manner of speaking, of course.]

Then again, the guy that got to play Dustfinger - from what I've seen of him in other movies - is a stereotyped big bundle of angst. Not that Dustfinger doesn't have his troubled moments now and then [especially the scene when they're burning the books before his eyes... gah!! Poor Dustfinger!!!] ...but over all he always has this ironic, devious edge to him.

By the way...

...it looks like they are adding some weird twists to the story! I just looked at the casting list and it has listed: "Rapunzel", "Prince Charming"...

What!? I don't remember them being in Inkheart?? Were they?

Maybe there's some sort of bit where they show a bunch of various characters from books as real people? A sort of flashback or something? Or maybe Mo accidentally reads them out...? I can see them being incorporated on a very small scale, but I hope they don't actually put them in.

I've always found Cornelia's Funke's books to be a fine length. The endings never really bothered me except for Inkspell because it didn't resolve anything :P Though I suppose that's a characteristic for the second installment of any trilogy.

EDIT: Was browsing a bit, and came across this: http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_xe ... ail&id=258

Costumes - fine, the sets look good, I like most of it but what's with Toto at the end? That's kind of a cute addition but I wonder how big a role other books are playing, what with Rapunzel and Prince Charming and Toto. I don't know if I really mind, I'm just interested to see.

EDIT #2: Inkheart teaser poster (why is Meggie's name not on there? She's the main character): http://www.newestposters.com/poster/5468

I agree with you, Viggo's too Aragorn-ish to play Dustfinger. :P Plus, I don't think he's small enough...Dustfinger was kind of small and scrawny, wasn't he?

(Ironically, you make Dustfinger sound a bit like Jack Sparrow.)

I didn't really mean personality wise, I was talking about appearence. But I can see where you all are coming from. I think I just miss LotR too much. :(

^Lol, Dustfinger and Jack Sparrow? That would be quite a combination!

Wouldn't it? That was random, I know. :P

I'm really looking forward to this movie!

Anyways, I have a question. According to this link there are two Elinor's in the movie.

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809787394/cast

Is that correct? Was it that way in the book?

I got to see this Sunday. :) Here is official review, which I'm just copying from my blog, for teh record...

Warning: Small Spoilers!

The Bad

The movie came across as very rushed, though I half expected it would be, and I really can't blame them. That is one huge novel to cram into a single movie. Nonetheless, I am an Inkheart purist (haha! it feels so awesome to say that) and I thought that some of the things that were added for the movie could have been cut to make more room for some of the missing book scenes.

There was one thing in particular that bugged me, and that was the changed ending. The ending came across overly happy and cheesy in my opinion. It lacked the potency and homesickness that made it so real in the book.

Farid and Dustfinger's relationship was not very strong. (Probably to make their parting easier?) But I missed the sweet Dustfinger "father" moments. And I hated the fact that Farid was as very attatched to him, but more interested in the fire.

The "Silvertongue" being the name for all the bookreaders... meh. No. "Silvertongue" is Mo's special title. End of story.

The Good

Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger Dustfinger...

*takes breath*

Dear Paul Bettany,

Please forgive me for doubting you. I take back everything I said about your hair. I also regret my critisizing of your acting abilities. You took my breath away, end of story.

In all seriousness, I was very impressed by the casting. Bettany and Frasier were certainly the dynamic duo, and alone they made the movie worth seeing. They really made the characters come to life. I love the extra attention that was payed to the character of Dustfinger. In my opinion, they almost couldn't have done better.

Also, I like movie Farid better than book Farid. Most of the time book Farid just struck me as clueless and annoying, while movie Farid was perfectly adorkable. I loved the scene with the modern clothes.

Andy Serkis was made of win. In fact, the only character that struck me as oddly cast was Fenoglio, because I had always imagined him less feeble. But even he was awesome.

I actually liked the bit with the "great storm" from the Wizard of Oz. That was very creative and fun.

Meggie and Farid's "crush" was downplayed... really downplayed, which I appreciated. That would have really ruined the movie if they would have made it into this big, teenage, dramatic thing.

And lastly, the book whispering was a perfect touch.

Overall

The books are better. Duh.

But the movie is worth seeing, especially for the character portrayals, and certain sweet moments that I won't spoil for you. I cannot emphasize enough how incredible Paul Bettany was as Dustfinger. Just... wow.

Randomly About The Books

I know that some of my subscribers (coughRaenandMarkcough) only read this first book of the trilogy. Ahem. Allow me to say, very lovingly of course, since I am an Inkheart fan, that the first book wasn't exactly... good. I mean, it was a decent, fun book and all, but it was nothing to rave over.

But believe me when I say this, they get better. Inkspell is amazing and Inkdeath... well, it just blew my mind. Inkdeath was like the epitome of my favorite fantasy novel, and it deserves to be read by everyone. So don't ignore the rest of the trilogy just because you disliked the first. Please.

I actually would have liked to have seen this film, but what with it being out in the UK early December, there was no chance. I'm a bit disappointed really, as I have just started to read Inkheart... and yes FM... thanks to you Mr. Bettany is Dustfinger to me. :P

I went to see this movie today. My thoughts? With all respect to everyone else and their opinion, I was seriously disappointed in that movie. It had such potential. I, personally, loved the book... the movie had a good story line. They cast many of their parts well. (Dustfinger=Epic win :swoon:) Just... gosh, whoever made that movie didn't seem to know what they were doing. Way to jumpy, jarring, rushedall over the map... man, I dunno... couldn't build up suspense. Couldn't make you CARE about the charries at all, excpet Dustfinger... but even then, that was only because of his acting. Gosh, whoever edited/filmed that movie didn't give him much chance to... whatever... everything seemed to forced and just... :( I dunno, really... it had it's good moments... it just didn't seem right to me. :erm:

That's just my opinion, though. ;) For everyone who liked it, I don't mean to insult you or it in any way. :)

I sort of agree and sort of disagree with you TT.

Like I said, I'm an Inkheart purist. (:teehee:) So while one part of me was raving that they were absolutely ruining the book, another part of me kept insisting that this wasn't the book, it was something completely different.

What do you mean, in that you didn't think they cared about the characters? I thought the character portrayals were the best aspect of the whole movie.

JF: Yay! Another Inkheart convert! Muahaha... I'm gaining ground every day...! (Actually I am. I've gotten three PMs about my Dustfinger banner/quote already... people who are now interested in the Inkheart trilogy because of it. *happy* )

Good for you FM. :-)

I mean I would have gone to see this film anyway, because it looked interesting and has a cast of most of whom I like. But your banner just made me decide to [s]steal[/s] my brothers book and read it.

Annoyingly, a rip-off "Bedtime Stories" is showing in my cinema (where Inkheart must have been for less than a month), and a couple of months ago there was another film involving books that come alive. :-( One can only presume Miss. Funke's story came first and these films are cashing in on a similar theme.

FM, :teehee:

No, I more found that it was a poorly made movie. Like, I don't know, maybe I'm too critical of these things... but they just weren't able to give the movie the right feel. Everything was so rushed, and they seemed incapable of making the movie funny, sweet, or giving it the feeling of suspense, excitment, adventure, mystery, or anything really. What I actually meant is that they were unable to make the audience care about the characters. To me, at least, it just seemed like a bunch of people on this adventure, which really didn't seem all that amazing. And you didn't feel like you knew the characters... they were just there. You didn't care if Distfinger or the author whose name escapes me went back into the book. You didn't care if Meggie and Moe found Resse. I honestly didn;'t care if they lived or died. They were just people on the screen to me. And, it's completly the director's fault, because it wasn't like the actors weren't talented or trying... Dustfinger especially. They just weren't given the necessary time, lines, camera shots, music even to develop fully.

That's just me, of course. ;) I don't want to diminish your liking for the movie in any way. And I LOVED the book, btw. ;)

Oh! Did Farid rememind anyone else of Caspian?

^Nope, Its funny when I went to see it with my dad, my dad kept saying that Farid looked like Orlando Bloom. :-D I mean he sort of hace a face like him, maybe.

I think Dustfinger and his ferrot(I forgot whats his name again?) were AWESOME!! He is sooo mysterious and intriging. Who wouldn't like him? :)

What is one of your favorite lines? Mine is: "Whats that sticky stuff called?"....."Duct tape"....."Yes....I love duct tape." lol What a great line.

This movie is one of my top favorites now. I have to reread the book now.
