*slight laugh* I see this thread hasn't changed much!
I've been gone for a month, and will be gone for a while yet, but I decided to pop in just to say hi to you all. So... hi!
I've missed sharing pics and spoilers; I preffer A-U to KTTC any day. However, I've managed to keep rather up-to-date in the spoiler department, so hopefully I won't be behind when I return.
Bye!

He's not at all how I've always imagined Davy Jones to be. Davy Jones is not a character that was soley thought up for PotC--he's been around in Ghost stories for ages, and in my opinion, the portrayal of him in PotC was awful, so he drives me crazy in it.
Hi/Bye, Altariel! Glad to see you dropped in just to say hi to us!

Does he? I'm morbidly fascinated by Davy Jones. I'd never read much about him before, which is maybe why I love him in PotC. *shrug* I really like Bill Nighy's accent, it creepy and yet not-so-creepy so you think "wow, there's still a person inside that weird mutated octopus."

Aerandir, Uh... . Sorry I thought that you were being serious and that I had totally offfended you. Well um I'm sorry again for the miss-hap. I take things way too literal...
Um, personaly I like Davy Jones portral allright. I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other honestly. Same pretty well goes for Barbossa thus far.
Atariel Frodo, Hey. I'm glad that you're still able to pop in and out somtimes. I hope that you are back for good real soon. We all really miss you.
To me I think that Norrington is walking a very thin line between good guy and bad guy. In the first one I will say that he was totally supposed to be a "good guy". However in the secound one (in my opinion) they took him to places that were supposed to make some view him as a "bad guy". Therfore that's how I catagorized him. In my oppinion I think that in AWE they will redeem him and say that he was a "good guy" all along. However this is not how I view the character. I see Norrington as somebody who we are not supposed to like...least wise not All of us. I think that the writters wanted to give us somebody who we could be split on opinion wise and that that character is Norrington. I beleive that he is meant to cause the fans to have opssoing oppions about him. Plus it makes for great conversation. Um, I'm not evening saying that I hate him I'm just saying that I don't see him as good guy. To me he's just more of a boardline/bad guy.
Personaly I think that in DMC he was a bad guy. He was working for those that are supposed to be viewed as "bad" or at least are not supposed to be our heros (Beckett and the Birttish who are trying to control the seas). See the thing with PotC (for me) is that the writters want us to like the pirates (Jack, Gibbs, ect, ect). However pirates I suppose...sad as it is...really aren't heros in most stories. In fact usally they are the portrayed as the "bad guys". Though in PotC I think that we are indeed supposed to like them. As for Jack in paticular being a "bad guy" most of the time I do view him as a bad guy. I don't see him as nice at all. He hurts Elizabeth and Will, will do pretty much Anything to get what he wants, is a womanizer, and has very little regret about doing whatever bad thing he did which to me makes it all the worse. That's why I view Jack as a bad guy. It doesn't make me want to hate him All of the time but I certainly won't say that he is a good guy for Any reason at this point rather the oppisite. However I didn't place him as such because I think that we really are supposed to like him (reason being because he's the star) and I know that he does have a large fan base. Those truely are my reasons for not putting him on the list. Um, I put ect though so if anyone would like to pick any other character from PotC (inclueding but not limited to Jack) feel free to use them as your favorite "bad guy". No offence meant to anyone. That's just how I view the bad guy points of PotC and of Norrington and Jack. Everyone is more than welcome to their opinion and their favorite(s). This is just my odd persepctive of PotC's characters.
Meldawen, By the way, I really like your new aveter and banner set of Will and Elizabeth. That is a really good picture of them.
ps 97 more days!

Thanks DD! I really like this set too, it's not a picture of them that's used often.

Wow! Thank you for having the guts to say what I've been thinking. Jack really isn't a good guy, or necessarily a bad guy...though he does bad things...usually he's just sort of there, the wild card to make the story funny. I'm usually not cheering for him. I'm cheering for Will and Liz. But I sure am laughing at him.

See, that's why I think a Jack/Elizabeth pairing would be so wrong. Jack's role in the movie is trickster, deliverer-of-one-liners, comic relief, if you will. He's the pirate. He's not meant to be in love. He's meant to forever sail your mind as a pirate. Not a love-lorn puppy dog. Of all of them, Jack is the true pirate. Will may have a pirate father, and Elizabeth may think like a pirate, but neither of them are Jack.
Wow, I wonder how many times I used the word 'pirate' there.

Aerendir: Well you said it right there, thier "portrayal of Davy jones". They took Davy Jones, what they know of his stories (T&T arent dafy, I'm sure they looked into this) and they made him thier own, they suited him for Pirates of the Carribean, just like SpongeBob has thier own portrayal of Davy Jones for thier show, no one's critisizing them though. They just suited him for thier own purpose. And likewise, then you have the decision whether to like him or not.
As for Norrington.
I do agree with much of what Drew's Destiny said, though I must also add this, I don't think Ted and Terry ever wanted you to think "ok he's good in movie one, bad in movie two, so hopefully now they'll redeem him", I think they've always left him half and half because they want you, the viewer, the audience, to make that choice for yourself. They're not telling you "hey look at what he's doing, he must be bad" also because, essentially in the second movie he's just...I mean, his life ahs been ruined and at any cost, he wants it back, now, he's not killing anyone, he's not murdering people, and he's not even ever really pirating that much, e steals the heart of Davy Jones, yes, he does something essentially wicked and goes behind everyone's back and betrays them a bit.
Norrington ahs always fascinated me, because of the things he does I personally think he is the most human of all characters, he is the only one we ever see really suffer, and really lose something (for now) and at the same time the only one who lets these things go, in first movie he gives up Elizabeth for Will, in the second he puts up it without ever making a move on her or anything stupid. He's a well-rounded man because we've seen gallant Norry and wreckless Norry. We have been fortunate enough to explore him, I think, and like I said I think this was purposely done so that we could in fact say that Norrington, in essence, is human.
And I also think thats why many people (except for us A-U geek fan girls) are so turned off by him, so to speak.
He's not dashing corageous William Turner, or sexy and comic Jack Sparrow, he is James Norrington human...and real.
bless you if you read that.

This villain that will be introduced looks like he has a whole lot of potential. And he is not based on another all-ready made legend. Does anybody else get the feeling that we will be seeing many ghosts in installment 3 of our wonderful Pirates Of The Carribean? "Weird and haunted shores at worlds end" I'm thinking ghosts.

I just thought of something last week. I was listening to the story Tia Dalma told Will about Davy Jones carving his heart out for the woman he loved.
And it just occured to me. What if that woman is Tia Dalma?
