Ugh you guys.
I am a huge Indiana fan, no doubt. Love Shia LeBeouf, love Cate Blanchett, and of course, I worship Harrison Ford.
This movie should have been a no brainer, right? Apparently not. I adored the movie (with a few exceptions) until it was like BAM-ALIENS! And then I was like "WHAT". Epic fail, Spielberg.
I've actually never seen a movie that I was more disappointed in. And I've seen Eragon.

hmmm, ok, thanks for your thoughts, guys! At least the acting was good! lol that is always a HUGE thing with movies... and you are right, Phoenix, you can never really tell if you'll like it or not just by others' reviews. although the whole aliens thing does seem a little odd for an Indy movie... but who knows. Since I'm not a die-hard fan it might not bother me at all and the rest of the fun and such might get me by.
TT, yeah, but Narnia is closer to my heart than Indiana Jones and I would still LOVE to see PC again. and what's so bad about seeing PC for the third time? pfft, what's wrong with that? although the fact is I'll probably not be able to drag anyone to see either with me... no one in my family is a really big movie-goer but me. *sigh* but I guess it's good that it's not HORRIBLE. Although I choose to ignore that last little unnecessary comment you popped in there... Indiana Jones will never equal AWE or DMC. Ever.
meh, I dunno... the fact still remains that I'll probably have to wait til it's out on dvd. although now I am sorta interested to watch it and see what I think about it...

sorry, doubt post here... but I just have to say I got to see it!
yup, my dad's friend was taking his family this afternoon and he asked us to go with him... so I DID get to see it.
Anyway, firstly I HAVE to say Mutt/Shia=AWESOME! I just loved watching him... a lot! Shia is such a good actor. I loved that.
but also I have to say I actually liked it. After reading your guys' reviews and such I was a little worried about it, but after seeing it for myself... well, I thought it was great! the aliens were a little different, but they really didn't bother me a whole lot. I liked that it was something new explored for an Indy film. and I loved the whole Marion/Indy/Mutt scenes... after Mutt finds out Indy is his father and everything. so I am happy I went to see it... for a little while I really wasn't planning on going with them. but I'm happy I did. I thought it was a good addition to the others.
and over all it was just a good, funny movie... a very good adventure, me thinks.
also I'm happy that I went because my dad's friend said he and his daughter might go to see Prince Caspian later this week and they might take me too!

I saw it today! It was much better than I expected it to be. Harrison Ford was did not act like an old guy like I would think. He got his fair share of butt kicking beside Shia and everyone else.
I thought it was a good movie.... aliens and all.

W00t! Teh PD has seen it! I honestly doubted you would.
Shia was wonderful. But, still, I hope they don't make another set of movie starring him.

I doubt it... at the end when Shia was about to put the hat on, Indi took it away...... I was relieved!!

You doubt that they will? lol, I was like "No! They're not turning him into the second Indy, are they?". It was a funny scene though.

lol, huzzah for seeing it today! *high fives Precious* and I agree completely... although Mr. Ford looked a LOT older in this one... but I'm happy he wasn't just some old guy tossed aside. He did a ton of stunts! lol, I thought the motorcycle ride towards the beginning was so funny!
TT, you doubted it, did you? well, I did too... and actually it was only spur-of-the-moment that I DID go...
Shia was great! lol, I LIKED that scene where he was about to put the hat on and Indy took it away! I thought that was great! Hmm, although personally another movie with him as the "new" Indiana Jones might be interesting... like father like son, no? I don't think I'd really mind it actually...
(and, hey, if TT can like Suspian I can like Mutt turning into the new Indy! )

I did, I did.
Oh, I liked it too. I meant I was happy that he did not actually put it on. Hmmm, maybe. But Harrison is Indy for me. I mean... yeah, I love love Shia but... These movies are so iconic. I just can't see it. :confuse: I also don't like the idea of Indy becoming a grandfather (lol, I know father... But he's OLD ). He was so young...
(I never said you couldn't like it. I wouldn't though, I think. Hey! You don't like Suspian?)

Yayy for you getting to see it and liking it. Really glad you enjoyed it PD.
I gotta say though, I don't understand why the aliens would be a huge problem for some people going to see it. The movie followed the same lines as the three before it.
Indy investigates mythological artifact.
Gets chased by bad guys
Learns there's more to said artifact than he was previously aware of.
Crystal Skull is set in the 1950's, at a time when paranoia was high as was interest in aliens and 'little green men'.
I'm not getting at anyone that didn't enjoy it. Just putting my opinion forward.

TT, lol, who can blame you?
well, it wouldn't have bothered me if he had put the hat on. Because I know that somehow Indy would've gotten it back. Or even still if Mutt had kept it on I would've been fine. well, yeah, I don't think Indy would be able to be replaced, but they could still make other movies. Like what they did with the kid Indiana Jones stuff. no, I know what you mean though... a movie without Harrison would be WEIRD. But still. That didn't bother me either... I thought it was a good element. Secretly up until it was actually said I was really hoping Mutt was Indy's son. They were just SO opposite! lol
(I know, I know... I was just saying. nope, I don't really care that much for Suspian... although I did think they handled it well. )
Phoenix, I know! I'm happy I actually went to see it... and I'm happy I was surprised by it and liked it.
I have to say I completely agree with you... there's nothing more I can add to that. you put it all perfectly! but, yeah, whatever floats your boat.

*rubs hands*
Ok, I saw Indiana Jones today and here are my opinions.
Note: I DON'T like aliens and spaceships on the best of days, just to give you some idea about what I'm going to be saying.
Things I Loved
INDY!!!!!!! ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE who knocks Harrison Ford in this film has just got to be jealous of the fact he can MOVE at his age. XD Seriously, he came back and was as good as ever. There weren't too many old man jokes, and he wasn't really made to do anything more spectactularly stunning stunt-wise than before, so it wasn't totally unconvincing. I loved the fact he kept the character the same, and I even liked the things he did that was more like his dad. Especially the bit at the end of the bike chase when he ended up in the library and actually helped a student! That is Henry Jones Snr all over!
The Ark! The Ark references were brilliant. It took me a while to twig that the warehouse was the same as the one in Raiders, but when I heard the Aek music, I knew. Nice, subtle nod.
Henry Jones Snr and Marus. Admittedly, I'm not happy that his dad is dead (what happens if Sean Connery bumps his head and says he wants to be back in the next one, if there is another?) and I'm glad that Indy has both his dad and Marcu's picture on his desk, and there was a painting of Marcus and even a statue. I was a little sad it got destroyed, but I suppose it was sort of like the last little adventure for him and Indy almost, as the statue did help.
Cate Blanchett. She was amazingly good. Perfect for the role, and I want her accent.
Mutt Williams. Surprisngly Ok. He wasn't a badly written character which probably helped a lot., and he wasn't as whiny as I expected.
Motorbike chase. I thought this was the most amazing scene in the film. It was really fantastic and Ford was great in the stunt scenes (climbing through a car window from a bike and back again?!) really, really impressive.
Things I'm Not Too Sure About
Chase scene. The chase scene in the jungle was going very well, but in the end it was too darn long. It was thrilling and everything but I think it was a little bit samey after awhile. I also thought the fencing scene was pretty silly actually, and it could have cut down the chase by a few minutes.
Walled up people. I'm not sure why films these days that are set in these sort of areas have to involve people who don't come out of cracks or crevices in walls, but are actually breaking through walls. It's not just Indiana Jones that this happens in, but it kinda annoys me.
Things I Didn't Like
Aliens. Seriously, I couldn't believe how much was do with aliens. Up until the point they entered the final temple, it was still all theory that it was to do with aliens. Some people believe Roswell was just a cover up for something worse, so the "alien" found need not necessaily have been a real alien. I could put up with the mind-reading thing, as that was mentioned in Temple of Doom. But when they put the head on the skeleton and it started to move and turned back into an alien.... frankly, it was ridiculous. And when the entire landscape got blown away (very Mummy Returns) and a flying saucer flew away..... yeeah.....
It would have been so much better, if the skull was something powerful and mysterious, like the Ark or the Grail, and yes, you could read its mind and yes it could tell you what to do, and yes, even when you placed it back in position, it could blow your mind away with it's power if you were physically charged or whatever. And yes, even the power behind it could burn people away or whatever, again like the Ark or the Grail, but not necessarily from another creature from another dimension or world or.... yeah.
I think the alien story moved away from what Indiana Jones has essentially been about - ancient artifacts with mainly a religious theme. Supernatural yes, extra-terrestrial, no.
Archaeology. I was really disappointed that basically Indy had one little tiny map thing to figure out, and everything else he had to ask Ox about. I mean... he's Indy... and he's not figuring things out himself? No Staff clues like in Raiders or Grail Diary in the Last Crusade? I was quite surprised by the lack of stuch things.
Ants. The ants were a really unecessary part of the film. Not only did they look fake, but I couldn't believe that Spielberg had included something that suited the Mummy films (the ants swarming over people where exactly like the scarabs) into Indiana Jones. Presumably he wanted another animal infestation like the other films (rats, snakes etc) but I think where they were situated didn't really fit (and just prolonged an already long scene) and the guy being dragged into the anthill... was not Indiana Jones.
Tarzan. The swinging through the vines was really quite naff. I'm not sure why he didn't just jump down and run. Or why couldn't he have just swung once to further himself. It was odd to say the least. The monkeys then attacking Cate in the car.... WTH?
1950's. I was a little bit tired of all the things they threw in, during the first 30 minutes or so to prove that it was the 50's. The reference to Marlon Brando probably just annoyed me because I hate him anyway, but there were a couple of things that I didn't think needed to be there, and just seemed to be screaming out "1957 don't forget it".
Nuclear explosion. Ok, well this was REALLY dumb. We all know about the cold war and nuclear testing and everything, there was no need to really add this to the film. I don't think for a start, locking yourself in a fridge actually on the site where a bomb has gone off, would actually save you.... but being hurled 5 miles in it and walking out of it, inscathed and not even wobbling... man, that is amazing.
You know my views on the whole alien thing, so you can probably imagine what I think of the flying saucer bit at the end, so I don't think I need to really go there. It again reminded me of the Mummy Returns where the templed sinks into itself and everything gets blown away.
The wedding. It was a little bit twee for me. I was really disappointed that apart from a few rows between them, not a lot happened with Marian and Indy. Mind you, they didn't have a lot of time, as it was action all the way once they met. I was surprised to see it ended with a wedding, as apart from the fact Indy knew he was a father, I didn't really see anything that rang the wedding bells.
Believe it or not, I do actually like this film. I don't like it as much as Raiders or Last Crusade, and although there were many parts in it, that were funny and the banter was good, there is something about it that doesn't fit with the spirit of the other three films. Maybe it's impossible to make another sequel film after so many years between, maybe as hard as you try to keep the script and story true to how you began the series, you somehow get lost in modern film making and story telling. There is just something lacking in this. Maybe it's the story, maybe it's the action seems too far fetched even for Indiana Jones and the fact there was an awful lot of action. Maybe in trying to come up with a story that suits 1957 Indiana Jones, they lost what it was all about.

Thanks.. but not sure I would like to see it... I hate creepy-crawly thingies... I'm quite positive my fear for snakes and spiders etc. comes from the first time I watched Indiana Jones as a kid. The scene in the Egyptian tomb... where Indy lights a torch.. and they discover.. ohhh the horror... they discover *trembles* that they are walking on snakes and *shudder* and scorpions... ewwwww!!!!
I nver made it to the rest of the Indy-movies...
I think I might be able to deal with ants though....

Hmm, you'd probably be Ok with the Last Crusade, there is only once scene where Indy falls into a small cage of harmless snakes (which is how we learn, he comes to hate them). Apart from that though, there aren't any insect scenes.
