Your Lord Blackwood signature is delicious lol.

I want to see the movie again as well! I've only seen it twice :P.

Thank you. But then again he is a very delicious man.

With or without hair, he is gorgeous. I actually said to my brother when we left the cinema "do you think he's sad when he takes off the wigs he wears for each film?" because he is pretty much bald in real life.

I would see it again, but I don't think I'll be able to. DVD release here I come!

@JF - I actually like listening to the soundtrack. :P Some of the tracks are -admittedly- better than others, but still. :P Maybe it's because my entire family is musicians and they all play strange harsh sounding stuff. xD

XD

I think it just grates a little bit sometimes, and it really makes me jump when a loud harsh note is being played. :P

Wait the actor is bald? I didn't know that...lol.

Either way he's still nice to look at.

By the way did anyone else notice Blackwood had a pointy vampire tooth that over lapped his front teeth in the beginning of the movie, but in the end it's not there? It's kind of like he raised from the dead and went to a dentist before trying to take over the world :P.

Or maybe it was still there and I just didn't notice.... .

Yep, he is pretty much bald.

And he has that overlapping front tooth in real life, you can quite clearly see it in Stardust, but with all the close-ups there in this film, I think it look worse. I actually thought a couple of times they might have accentuated it a bit.

Oh whoops :duh: . It really did look accentuated though. I've never seen people with teeth that pointy lol. It made him seem more devilish or something....

Lol, I think it is more wonky than anything really. But I do wonder if they made it more so, so there was something not quite right with him.

They can't be having such a perfectly formed villain can they? :P

Wow I never knew that Mark Strong was actually bold  Who would have guessed that? I think he looks much friendlier when being bold :teehee: (Okay, I realise that might sound very weird :P )

About the soundtrack: I think that certain parts of the soundtrack are very irregular and difficult to listen to. (Excuse me for not using any musician terms, but I'm not really into that :P ) Those parts start off very slowly with just a string instrument (a cello or something?) and have a kind of jazzy tune but it doesn't have a real beginning, climax or and ending.
I did like the louder, typical Holmes-and-Watson-in-action-parts :P (Nr. 1, 6 & 10).

So I've seen the movie twice now and I absolutely loved it. The setting of the story in late 19th century Britain looked very real. Holmes' witty and sarcastic remarks were just so hilarious just like Holmes and Watson's bickering. :)
I haven't read the novels yet so I couldn't say whether it was a good portrayal of the characters, but I did find both Watson and Holmes have very appealing and likeable character, nor did I find the female leading leading ( Rachel McAdams) annoying, which I usually do. And the villain was very villainish. The jailscene with Blackwood and Holmes did make me feel really uncomfortable, so well done Mark Strong :-D

And I was wondering, for all those who've read the novel, the plot of the movie, was it an adaption of the novel? Or were some elements of different stories put together?

The movie was a new story but they used some characters, such as Irene Adler and Moriarty, and lines from the stories, such as "You have the grand gift of silence, it makes you invaluable to me as a companion" and data, data, data! I cannot make bricks without clay."

I know there are more lines that were ripped straight from the books, but I don't know all of them.

Also Watson did have a bulldog pup in the first Holmes novel A Study in Scarlet and they also mentioned in the movie that Watson was in the military, which is also from the stories.

It was also mentioned in the stories that Holmes was a boxer.

I'm sure there are more things (I did notice the bullet holes in the wall from an episode of the Granada series), but I haven't read all of the stories yet. I'm still working on that :P.

Having seen it now, I feel my initial impressions were right. It was less Sherlock Holmes and more Pirates of the Caribbean meets Angels and Demons meets The Dark Knight. (Even the soundtrack was reminiscent of PotC!) But like I said before, I'm a die-hard purist, and therefore probably quite prejudiced. :P

On a totally off-topic note, I rented it on Blu-ray, and got to see a little bits of LotR in Blu-ray quality in the previews. (They were advertising LotR's recent Blu-ray release.) Very cool. :D

Gah! I really need to see this again. Can't believe it isn't out in the UK for another month! Is it not set in Britain? Written by a British person? Filmed in Britain? Populated by British talent? Why did we have to get it last in the cinemas and last on DVD now? Why? Why?! WHHHHHHHHHHHHHY!

[yes, I am suffering from the lack of sexy villains in my life]

^ You did NOT get it last in cinemas and you're NOT getting it last on DVD, JF. Where it was filmed and who's in it has absolutely NOTHING to do with release dates.

Sweden's not getting it on DVD until June. Same with France.

It was released in cinemas in the UK on December 26, ONE DAY after the US. Here's a list of all the countries who got it after the UK:

Indonesia
27 December 2009
Egypt 30 December 2009
Kazakhstan 31 December 2009
Russia 31 December 2009
Ukraine 31 December 2009

Slovenia 7 January 2010
Brazil 8 January 2010
Estonia 8 January 2010
India 8 January 2010

France 3 February 2010
Switzerland 3 February 2010 (French speaking region)
Japan 12 March 2010

I'm sorry if it feels like I'm jumping down your throat, but this isn't the first time you've expressed the UK's entitlement to get movies before other countries and also not the first time you've said a movie was released in the UK months after everyone else, when that too wasn't true. Why should the UK be more important than any other country?

Well, yes you are actually. I've never been serious in what I have said - it just always FEELS like it's been a lot longer than say America who from my point of view, has a lot more things which are better than the UK anyway. Maybe sometimes I am wrong... I'm not perfect but as I said, when you're surrounded by people on a forum who have seen a film before you and they have banners and sigs and can talk about it freely, it seems a hell of a lot longer. But Pixar films for example are always later than the US, and as a huge Pixar fan it just annoys me slightly. Am I the only one guilty of being annoyed? I had to wait a lot longer than a lot of countries for Up (most of the ones you listed got it way ahead of the UK). US got it 29th May UK had it October 9th. Fair comment?

And my believing that the UK should get Sherlock Holmes first was mainly a veiled reference to what PJ said about LOTR being shown first in London because it was written by an Englishmen and had so much to do with Britain. But having said that, Sherlock Holmes is British on so many levels, why should Britain not have been the first country to have it released, and the first country to have it on DVD? Happens all the time with other countries. *shrugs*

Who said I thought the UK was more important? I am a paying customer who is often irked by the waiting times? Doesn't matter what country you come from, if a film is not generally released at the same time everywhere and you want to see it, it's annoying. I couldn't really give a stuff about the "UK" getting this or that first, for the simple and completely selfish reason that I wouldn't have to wait as long. Unless it's a British film, or at least populated by a lot of Brits, and then I think the UK should get it first.

I don't believe for one minute that everyone of us on here hasn't wished from time to time, that their country had all the big films first.

@JF: WHAT I swear in Empire they said it was meant to be realeased today ( April 19th) on dvd?? how come its been pushed back a month D: I was so gonna go out and get it this week too :( BAD TIMES

@Erulisse: Its not completely unreasonable for the british people want a film with such british acting talent released firt :) I think I'm with JF in that it seems that British nationalism and pride at their film making is discarded in place of the studios making more money. I know that we weren't (and rarely are ) last to get this film, and many other big blockbusters, but it seems quite odd to me that some, heavily British films are not released first in the UK. For example, The Harry Potter series, which prides itself on only casting UK talent and is filmed almost entirely in England and Scotland has had its world premier in Japan for the last few films :) and I think its a simular situation with the Narnia films, where once again, the acting talent is majorly British. I think a degree of National Pride is important with film Releases, New Zealand got their RotK world premier as Did Mumbai for Slumdog Millionaire, whereas in England it seems the majority of films we get first are more Indie or british comedy films (or James Bond)

As for this Film, if I'm honest when I saw the trailers in the summer I thought it looked like some horrible action film masquerading itself as Sherlock Holmes, but going to see it and forgetting everthing I ever knew about Sherlock Holmes meant I really enjoyed it, so what if its not that faithful, its a lot of fun, and I think the SH franchise did need freshening up a little bit, and even if this film (and likely sequels) aren't faithful its still gonna create interest for the original novel series and older adaptations. I thought overall the cast were great, though RDJ's accent was a little bit monotone, but that gave a sort of emotionless and intellectually detatched feel to his character. I was really really disappoined in Rachel Mc Adams character though, who seemed entirely unnecessary appart from providing the rather hilarious shot of Holmes chained to the bed with only cushions as a cover . But Yeah I liked it... and I want the DVD NOW D:

Really? Well that is even more annoying. Musn't grumble though.

Because then again, America has seen season eight of Monk on TV, one year ago almost now, and I'm still waiting for the DVD of season seven to be out in the UK. But that's OK. Because as long as I know I'm not the only person from a country who has to wait years for a TV show, that makes me feel much better.

I never understood the Harry Potter films not being generally shown here first. I mean, if the Harry Potter films don't get the world premiere in the UK, then you have little or no chance of anything else. I am still in shock we got Casino Royale before other countries.
