I think Norrington is a very nice guy,and It was unfair that he died,so in my book he is alive and is the mayor of Paris! (kinda silly,I know, but they are worse things:Jack is my cousin! And one of my Oc characters has twins and I decided to called them Remus and Nymphadora )
Oh well,if they do a 4 film let´s sign a petition that merpeople have to appear!

I was thinking merpeople would appear at the "world's end" and that there might also be other sea monsters, like in the old beliefs of such weird and strange things being off the edge of the world.

Aye, that does sound fun! I'd like to dress up as a pirate with a bunch of other people and roleplay myself - maybe in a similiar setting, like at a park. There actually is a pirate festival in my state, but it's a ways from where I live and I probably won't get to go.

Oh, that's great, JF! I've signed it. (I don't understand that either, why are Jack and Barbossa back and Norrie isn't? )

Only 200 signatures? Don't people want Norrie back?! Well, I've signed it and I'll send it around to my friends.

Really?! Haha, that's awesome! Well, you can't have everything, eh? She does indeed! And she could actually smell him, too. To be honest, I thought the knocking Will off the boat with Jack's breath was a little cheesy, but, hey, what can you do about it? Wait, does he call Will or Jack a rat/cad? I've been in many Jack-is-better-than-Will arguements too. Some people just don't see sense. Aragorn would be perfect, would he. But actually, I've never really liked Aragorn in that way. Too much facial hair. (I'm very picky. ) FaeEowynTonks wrote: To my respon my question, everything that apparead(can´t spell ) in the final film I expected. But I wanted to see merpeople! Norrington would make a good mayor! Perhaps I'll write in his name on the ballet in the U.S. presidental election.
There should be a petition for merpeople! Now that you've got the idea in my head, I think it would be really neat!

I actually thought, though Norrington's death was sad and I preferred him over Turner, that it was the perfect ending for him.

Interesting... for me, it's not so much his death that bothers me, just the way he was never mentioned again. It didn't seem fair at all.

Odd; shortly after watching AWE, I wrote to Ted and Terry, stating how much I liked James's death scene, and thanking them for giving him an honorable end.
I've already given my long rant on why James had to die (from a writer's standpoint) and why he couldn't have had a better death, so I'll spare you now, but I'm curious: what exactly do they intend to accomplish through a petition? The movie has been out for months. What's done is done; they're not going to go through and re-shoot the movie just for DVD because a few hundred fans signed a petition. Would I have liked for James to escape with Elizabeth, fight alongside the pirates, and sail off happily into the sunset? Sure. But it's not going to happen, so I prefer to take my solace in the fact that he died an honorable death and went down defending the woman he loved (AFTER getting a kiss).
They done what's right by them; can't ask more than that.

Quote: To: Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio Dear writers of the Pirates of the Carbbean,
Recently, the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was released, bringing much excitement upon all POTC fans. Enthralled as we were by the movie, we would like to take this opportunity to express our immense disappointment at the death of the character James Norrington.
After the big part Norrington played in Dead Man¡¦s Chest, his death in At World¡¦s End was abrupt and widely thought to be unnecessary, for we all feel that there is much potential for further character development in Norrington. While he was not as important as characters like Jack Sparrow or Will Turner, he had always been essential in the story. A character in perpetual conflict between his job and honour, and his humanity and love for Elizabeth, Norrington has always been a colourful character, and if there was ever a fourth film to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, he is certainly destined to play a role.
The death of James Norrington had its beautiful moment and displayed Norrington¡¦s gallantry, but in the midst of the sadness we feel for our beloved Admiral, we must also express our disappointment in the way you let him go. The whole incident of his death appeared stretched, considering that Norrington was without doubt a better swordsman than Bootstrap Bill Turner, and even had the advantage of wielding a gun, and no actual threat was made to Elizabeth¡¦s safety. His sacrifice, even though moving, is widely conceived to be rather unnecessary, and has dwelt a tremendous blow to all Norrington fans. We all believe the story of a character as great as Norrington should not just end here!
Hector Barbossa was shot and brought back; Jack Sparrow got swallowed by the Kraken and rescued; must Norrington be the first major character who dies? Surely he doesn¡¦t deserve such a fate, and only you have the power to bring him back.
If there is a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, which we are all earnestly looking forward to, James Norrington must return!
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
Though I see your point, pirate.

Well as odd as it may seem, every 2 out of 3 people I have spoken to on the internet, have said how utterly pointless his death was, and how rushed it seemed to be.
I too, have given my long rant on why he didn't have to die, and how they could easily have avoided his death, with sacraficing the quality of the film and without making people say "how stupid for Norrington not to have died, that surely ruined the film for me".
It is the same with any petition is it not? I could start one saying I wish George Bush to stand outside the Lincoln memorial, in a chicken suit singing "Old McDonald Had A Farm". No way is it going to happen, but if it makes people feel better by signing it, then let them. If someone actually reads it, and takes a mental note, in case the opportunity ever arose, then even better.
In POTC, anything can happen. People can become zombies, get eaten by tentacly things, have their hearts carved out and still be living. I say we let people dream a little bit huh?
Hm, and a lot of us just mourn the death of a much loved character. So he got his kiss, very sweet, but not justification for his death. Saying he "died happy" does not in the end help the fact that he died. [/end rant]

Well, it is sad to have a character you like die. But I still thought it was good. But I like tragedies anyway (I thought Elizabeth and Turner's ending was good too).
One thing I'd argue in the petition though is that it said, "widely thought to be unnecessary." Widely? I don't think it really is that widely. There's really only a small fan base of Norry fans and I don't think that many people thought it was unneccesary. I definently think it's better that he died honorably then lived to watch Elizabeth marry Turner.
