Well, yes you are actually. I've never been serious in what I have said - it just always FEELS like it's been a lot longer than say America who from my point of view, has a lot more things which are better than the UK anyway. Maybe sometimes I am wrong... I'm not perfect but as I said, when you're surrounded by people on a forum who have seen a film before you and they have banners and sigs and can talk about it freely, it seems a hell of a lot longer. But Pixar films for example are always later than the US, and as a huge Pixar fan it just annoys me slightly. Am I the only one guilty of being annoyed? I had to wait a lot longer than a lot of countries for Up (most of the ones you listed got it way ahead of the UK). US got it 29th May UK had it October 9th. Fair comment?

And if you honestly think I truly believe that because Sherlock Holmes was to do with Britain on so many levels, I really think that's why it should be out in the UK first.... well.... what can I say? It was merely a veiled reference to what PJ said about LOTR being shown first in London because it was written by an Englishmen. *shrugs*

Who said I thought the UK was more important? I am a paying customer who is often irked by the waiting times? Doesn't matter what country you come from, if a film is not generally released at the same time everywhere and you want to see it, it's annoying. I couldn't really give a stuff about the "UK" getting this or that first, for the simple and comepletely selfish reason that I wouldn't have to wait as long.

I don't believe for one minute that everyone of us on here hasn't wished from time to time, that their country had all the big films first.

Even if you weren't serious in your statements, this is still not the first time this has happened. Last time it was about Sweeney Todd if I'm not mistaken:
Johnny's Fan wrote:
Now you know how this poor Brit feels. One of the most powerful countries in the world and I have to wait 3 months after most places to see any Pixar films. Sweeney Todd was January for me while everyone else saw it in October.

Which also wasn't correct since Sweeney Todd premiered in late December in the US (and late January in Sweden for example). And again, why throw a comment such as "one of the most powerful countries in the world" if you didn't deep down inside feel that they should prioritize the UK somehow?

Disney movies have always been released later in Europe than in the US. When I was a kid, we always had to wait until November/December for the latest Disney movie whereas the States always got it for the summer. And in the case of UP, you got it before us and you got two whole months before poor Japan.

Of course the US is going to get the movies before everyone else. That's where the majority of the studios are. It's only logical. I have also wished that movies would get here faster sometimes, sure. But you deal with it. And you wait patiently. Because it'll be worth it regardless.

And if all else fails, you can always order the Region 1 DVD online if you absolutely have to have it right away. When there isn't volcanic ash spreading across Europe that is.

And the UK got Kick-@ss before the US, Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus months before the US, Iron Man before the US, Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone before the US. Iron Man 2 will be released earlier in the UK. Heck, Dorian Gray was released first in the UK (in the entire world) and it has yet to be released in the US at all.

There's nothing wrong with wanting movies to get where you are sooner, but it just irks me a bit that you're acting like the UK is the last country on earth to get everything.

Well it was really a tongue in cheel comment. Maybe I should have added a smilie at the end or something. Being a powerful country has nothing to do with getting a film earlier - hence my jocular comment. Maybe a powerful film industry might affect when a film is released but not strength of economy or weaponry.

And as I have said (often now), I admit sometimes the release dates I do get it mixed up how long it is, mainly due to the fact I am surrounded by Americans on here who usually get the films I want to see first, and so the wait seems a lot longer than it actually is.

Well to be honest, I don't really care what other countries get films after the UK. I mean, why should I really? Pixar films in particular are HUGE in the UK, they usually always break some kind of box office record, and I have no idea how film release dates are decided (I don't think the film makers know themselves), but if the UK and Japan always made lots of money for Disney, then both countries should get them at a similar time and they shouldn't have to wait months and months for really big, popular films. Up is hardly Jaws 28.

And if my being impatient is due to the fact that I make comments now and then about waiting, well I'm sorry. I'd have thought being really impatient would have been downloading a new film illegally and therefore damaging the film industry.

And Region 1 might be good for some people, but I have no way of playing a Region 1 DVD anyway. And even if I did have a way to play them, and buying the DVD was instead of watching it in the cinema, that's hardly fair either. Having to substitute the cinema screen for a small TV before I even get to see it on a big screen is not really ideal.

Hmm.. well if I had the time, I could probably find a lot of films that we didn't get before everyone else and especially the mainly British films we had to wait for, it's quite surprising.

Well... some things irk me to. But the fact of the matter is, as a British person, I am tired of waiting around for films that either are released or SEEM to be released a long time after other countries. Depending on the film, it annoys me more than others.

And if the UK were the last to get everything all the time, I would have moved by now. And while yes, I probably complain more about it than some people might think is needed, it's just one of those little things in life that I like to rant about now and then, and if I can't do that on AU, then there's nowhere else to go. And the fact of the matter is, whether I am mistaken in believing a film was released in the UK 3 months later than the US instead of actually 1 month later, if it's a film I have been dying to see since it was announed - to me, it's still a long time. And I'll still complain about it.

I think it would have been easier to recognize it as a tongue in cheek comment had there been emoticons or lols/hahas after to declare them as such. This is a message board and it's impossible to tell whether somebody is serious or just being funny/sarcastic by just their comments if nothing else is added.

Fair enough, but if I would go online and rant about movies being released months after everybody else (heck, ANY subject matter), I think I would just make a quick check first to make sure I got the facts straight and that my complaints are valid.

You don't care what countries get films after the UK? That's nice. I just showed you what countries got the movies after the UK to counter your views on UK usually getting things last when in fact a LOT of people around the world have to wait a LOT longer than you for the films they want to see too. I just figured, since you yourself finds it painful to wait for films you really want to see, that you might feel for those who have to wait even longer. But ok.

I didn't mean buying a Region 1 DVD before seeing it in the cinema, I meant buying a Region 1 DVD after its UK cinema release but before i'ts released on DVD in the UK.

I'm also tired of waiting for films longer than some people around the world. So I understand your frustration. But what's it got to do with you being a British person?

Yes, well I think everyone on here can plead guilty to failing to use a smilie now and then.

And if everyone was so perfect to make a comment/complaint/remark and be absolutely 100% correct, then the world would be a much better place. I'm sure I am not the only one to get something wrong, but unlike others, at least I admit I am wrong if I find that indeed I am.

Well yes actually. I am sure millions of Americans don't sit with their heads in their hands weeping that the UK has to wait for films, so I am hardly going to do the same for the fact Israel had to wait for Quantum of Solace. Unless there was someone on here from Israel and then I would of course, be happy to listen to their rant and then I would sympathise with that person. Just like Saira and TT did with me concerning UP, so too have I done so for others on here.

Because... I'm British? And we were mentioning the UK a lot.

Sheesh I only came in to say I'd still not seen this bloody movie yet and there's a big bruahaha.

As a British citizen [not subject -barf-] I can say that sometimes waiting on a movie to get released can be tedious and frustrating. But...you just have to get on with it. Complaining about it won't make the movie or dvd come out any quicker nor will it make you feel better. In terms of release dates the UK really aren't always that bad off and we still get the movies anyways so I don't see the point in making a huge fuss about it.

-shrugs- I don't get it.

People complain everyday about a lot of things, so I'm not sure why my complaint is so awful or wrong but I get the distinct impression I am being attacked here. If we all made judgements about what other people should or shouldn't complain about.....

I think I'd better leave now, as it's quite clear that all because of remarks I have been making periodically over the years, is obviouslly causing much more upset than I could possibly have imagined.

It's such a shame I have never spoken out about the petty complaints others have made on here, but there you go. I might try it sometime.

...the hell?
I never said it was awful or wrong nor was I "attacking" you. I merely disagreed with your standpoint. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't go looking for things in my post that simply aren't there.

What upset? JF hun...don't be so silly. Tis a forum, we're having a discussion. Not all of us will and should agree with one another. You know this as well as I do. It doesn't mean anyone's out to get you.

Gawd I AGREED with you that it's annoying and frustrating. I just don't think it's worth your energy getting all upset over it. That's all. I just think there's much more important things to get concerned about in the movie industry than having to wait a few weeks to see something.

It's not like you haven't seen the movie before..unlike me [and others], who hasn't seen it full stop.

Well I'm sorry but after a number of posts involving Eru, the comment:

"I don't see the point in making a huge fuss about it.

-shrugs- I don't get it."

Was just to me anyway, the very latest in the "what are you complaining about" saga which you know, has been going on all day and I'm a bit tired of it to be honest. I like good discussions just like most people, and I don't even mind losing them or agreeing to disagree at the end of the day. So I'm sorry it might sound as if I was snapping at you, as I didn't mean to sound so harsh but .... well I've just deleted what I was going to say, as it's probably only going to cause something anyway and then no doubt I'll be back defending my words, and then I'll back again, so I won't continue.

Awww JF I know how you feel. It's annoying when you see other people with something you want but it's not available to you yet. *hugs*

I've had that problem lately and I don't want to be selfish but I just want it :P lol.

I can't believe I waited untill it was on Sky Box Office to see this. Man I'm stupid; it was absolutely FANTASTIC. Big fan of the soundtrack too, especially Discombobulate. I love anything that crescendos (hence my love for Elbow's 'Starlings').
