im going to get slightly hipocritical here, well kind of. I hate Eragon for every reason listed in the Eragon thread in the Literature section. All of which are decent reasons.
When i come here, i find people hating Pirates, the movie not the people because they're drunk, "annoying" and boring. Wow. Great reasons people. You don't dislike them because their static, too fictional or w/e. You hate them because their drunk. Sheesh, Gimli was drunk in RotK, and so were Merry and Pip. And half the time i find myself calling the characters in LotR annoying, its their personality. I'm annoying, people dont hate me. And as for the boring thing, DMC had some slow parts, CotBP not so much. But as for the actual people that are called pirates, rarely boring.
Sorry, dont see how you could hate either, real pirates or PotC in general.
Sometimes i just want to steal PotR's brain and use it for myself.
And really, if you haven't seen either of the two PotC movies, dont judge. You never know, you might actually like it. I thought CotBP was so stupid, until i saw it, then i was hooked.
And their probably going to write a fourth one...

Hmmm....well I think it's always best to try and see why people don't like something, you know see other people's points of view. I agree, you can't really knock something you don't know anything about, as you can't really have an opinion.
And even sometimes, the reasons people give, can seem a little stupid and also petty, but I at least, can understand why people don't like Pirates.
Firstly, if they went to see Pirates thinking it was going to be just an action film, they may be disappointed with the supernatural elements. I wasn't in the first one, as I thought it was a pretty neat angle, but in my opinion DMC headed much to much towards the supernatural and the third one looks the same. The whole "bringing people back from the dead" is a bit far even for Pirates. The COTBP was an original idea, and it's a shame they are using supernatural themes again.
And yes, having annoying main characters can seriously injure your enjoyment of a film. I'm lucky as of the main 3 I ♥ Jack, who makes up for the other two, but if someone doesn't like any of them - who we are meant to like, connect with, feel sorry for etc, you're not really going to care what happens to them, so you're not really going to care about Pirates at all. It's like if you hate Sam and Frodo are you really going to care if they both die at Mount Doom?
And although I would watch a film of Jack, in an empty room on his own, as it would be so entertaining, I think I am dismayed about the talks of a fourth film, as like so many sequels, I don't want to see Pirates go down the drain, change the cast etc (even though only a few of them are really good) and basically have everyone who loves Pirates say "why did they bother". If AWE is as good as the previous two (give or take a few scenes from DMC) I think they should leave it as a well loved trilogy, rather than risk a more far fetched storyl-line and possible failure.

Well...I dont hate the charatcers, considering I hardly know who they are. But I think POTC is just something that wont ever catch my eye--even if I do watch it, which, I never really want to.
BUT, I do not hate it. I just dont have any interest in it is all.

*sigh* I really wish Disney didn't try to wring so much out of already existing ideas. A fourth movie really doesn't sound all that exciting.

The bottom line is that we all have to agree to disagree. I posted my arguments for the sake of intelligent discussion, not to prove anyone "wrong." The great thing about differences is learning from them. It'd be rather boring if we all liked the exact same things.
However, I really do wish people would stop fretting/celebrating over the possiblity of a fourth PotC. 99% of the so-called "confirmations" of another Pirates sequel is media hype and misquoting. As of right now, AWE is fully intended to be the last one. Yes, Depp says that he'd love to do another, and yes, a few people have made offhanded comments about how it would be cool. But Ted and Terry (the writers) have adamantly stated on numerous occasions that there will not be any more films unless by some fluke chance they come up with something amazing. The writers will not let them make a mediocre film just for the sake of money. If (and I say if) they ever decide to make a fourth PotC, it will not be for years to come.
They revived this genre with CotBP, and they should kill it with AWE.

And I agree with Darky... she's already said what I think and since Shadowcat's already seen the movie, she sort of has a right to dislike it if she wants to... nobody can force it on her and I definitely won't. But the other people who have never seen it before and are prejudging are just being silly... I used to hate the LotR movies and books with a passion until I had to do a book report on one of the books. Then I eventually went on to the movies and look at me now! So who knows? Could be the same thing for you guys and PotC.

Agreed. We've established that there are some who love PotC, some who like PotC, some who dislike PotC, and some who hate PotC. That's pretty much how life goes. Since the original purpose of this thread seems have been fulfilled and pretty much any further discussion would just be repeating what's been said, I'd be all for letting this one die now, and with it any hard feelings that might have been stirred up.
(Unless, of course, there is more to be civilly discussed  )

Yes, I agree. But by no means should we kill the poor little thread. It's nice to have a place to honestly discuss opinions of the movies. So, yeah, it'll probably slow down a little, but there's nothing wrong with someone posting another opinion. *shrugs*

Hm. I've never seen it, but Im not being silly. I just reaalllly dont think it looks that good at all.
and my family isnt really into stuff like that anyways, so it kinda rubs off on me. Plus, its a Disney movie--I hate Disney.

Disney movies are usually bull, I admit... but if it wasn't stated in huge letters, I would have never guessed that it was Disney (yeah I'm pretty slow.. ) I always thought that LotR didn't look that good either, but I was clearly wrong. _________________

My older sis likes POTC (only cuz its Disney) and she was watching it one day, and I was gonna sit down and watch it..but I ended up only staying for like 10 mins.
I didnt even know what was going on...I think she was watching DMC.

Erm...I don't think people's posts are getting meaner or ruder, as this is AU, where 99.9% of the time people talk in a civilized manner. If people are thinking that the 1% are all here, then please lock this topic nevermind just letting it die!
I think the rumours surrounding a fourth film should be at least heard. I know that even before DMC came out, there were many rumours and things that were made up etc being listened to although some of them turned out to be right. The same for AWE, although you can never really believe anything you read when it comes to film rumours. However, it has been mentioned in respected film magazines over here in the UK, that the writers etc and Johnny Depp would love to make another film and are looking into the possibilties. If AWE is just as popular as DMC, and they think there is money to be made out of it (they admitted in an interview they never intended a sequel but when COTBP made so much money they had to write more) then I think there is a fairly good chance of there being a fourth film.
