Yeah...Wikipedia can be edited by anyone and everyone, unfortunately. I've gone in there several times now and changed it to Teague (which is the name that was given on the casting call for Keith's shot double), but people keep changing it back to Grant :disgust:. At least it's not as bad as the Cora Sparrow fiasco with DMC...

Long story short, there was a little girl named Sammi Hanratty cast as a miscellaneous extra in DMC (remember in the opening scene when the soldiers are running through the streets, and we see a little one-second shot of a small girl getting pulled back inside?), and someone got the bright idea (long before DMC came out) to credit her as "Cora Sparrow" on IMDb (side note- if there's a false rumour out there, there's a good chance it was started on IMDb, as absolutely anyone can edit it -much like Wikipedia- before a movie comes out). This caused much confusion among spoiler-hunters and led to some very creative fan-made plotlines; most people theorized that she was Jack's daughter or niece. Pretty soon after the rumour began to spread, we got it confirmed by various inside sources that Cora was not, in fact, a real character and that the whole story was a hoax. Unfortunately, some damage can never be undone once it's spread, and we had people asking questions about Cora Sparrow even through late July (and I'm sure there's still someone out there trying to figure out where Cora was in the movie).
So...yeah. Essentially, "Cora Sparrow" was a spoiler hunter's worst nightmare (especially since we kept having people ask about her and develop the same ignorant theories over and over and over), and has thus become a common phrase used to describe a false rumour that already has or may well spread all over and cause mass confusion (i.e.- if someone started a random rumour about some pirate chick who enters the scene in AWE and claims Will's love, then backed it with some fake 'evidence,' one might say, "Oh no, not another Cora Sparrow!").

And yes, sadly, that's the short version. ;)

That's pretty interesting! It just goes to show you not to believe everything you hear. And I mean, Cora Sparrow? Elizabeth as a pirate is unusual enough in that sort of time period, but ANOTHER female?

That makes sense...
that was short? I'd hate to see your long version.

Spoilers in general can be a mixed bag. You never know if what you find is real or not... because the official websites never seem to have any spoilers at all. :-P

Ah, but when one is in contact with several inside sources who have repeatedly proven themselves to be reliable (one of my best sources told us about the kiss about 6 months before the movie came out), as well as the writers themselves (who can occasionally be nice and give out a tidbit of information to tease us), one can be fairly certain that what one is hearing is real. I wrote a whole mini-essay on IMDb before about the nature of spoiler-hunting, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to find it...

^You are apparently quite good at spoiler hunting! I've only really started going around the internet at the beginning of this year, so I'm really just starting to know how to find spoilers.

Eh, it's more that I do it with a lot of other people, rather than just on my own. See, an individual spoiler hunter must rely simply on his/her own resources and ability to find information, as well as keep track of absolutely everything. As a group, though, you suddenly not one pair of eyes and ears, but twenty or so (or in my case, about 150) pairs, thus increasing the chances of finding something of value. Furthermore if someone hears something but isn't sure of its validity, it can be brought up with the others, who will then compare it to what they know as fact and determine if it fits or not.
Basically, it's all about strength in numbers. :D

lol I'm just the type of person who thinks spoilers take the fun out of the movie experience. I only go as far as seeing the trailers and read the synopsis on IMDb before seeing a film. But of course, to each their own - maybe I'm the weird one :teehee:

Having said that I cannot wait for AWE :bounce: Me wants more Jack Sparrow and Bootstrap Bill :D
