Oh, and on the topic of Norrington, I know I've posted it before, but I wrote a one-shot fanfic from Norrington's perspective, basically outlining the events leading up to DMC. If anyone's interested, it can be read here.

Dumdeedum...well, I finally saw it yesterday (uh, two days ago, considering it's 2:20 AM right now...). Thoughts? *gathers*
Well, the best word I can use to describe it is...well...ridiculous. I don't mean that in a bad way, at least, not mostly. It was just a very unbelievable, rather bizarre and silly movie. So was the first one, so yeah. But the first one loved being such, and DMC seemed to want to be deeper and darker and more meaningful and still came off (to me!) as ridiculous.
Meh. I did enjoy it. But...but...I guess I had a bunch of problems with some of the main characters.
Jack - in the first movie, he's this lovable scoundrel sort of person. As potr said, he IS selfish and all piratey and stuff, but the audience always knows (is pretty sure?) that he's really good at heart. In DMC he was still a scoundrel...but he wasn't particularly lovable. And he was very selfish without being very good at heart except at the end - and that was only because he didn't actually have any other choice after being chained up After CotPB, with his helping Will and Liz even though he didn't really have to, and with their helping him, I guess I expected a deeper (oh gosh...I just typed "depper" ) attachment between the three. I was surprised too that Will and Liz seemed so cold to him.
Elizabeth - aaaagh. I couldn't stand her in this movie. She was...annoying. I suppose you could say she was being brave and clever to kiss Jack to get him away, but it was devious, and, well, friends are just...supposed to stick by friends. But I guess no one's friends anymore Her flirting with Jack the first time (when he almost but not quite kisses her) was inexcusable, too. Even though it was funny, she was just whiny during the threesome sword fight.
Norrington - well, I concur that he's rather handsome without the wig, but it seems like an abrupt character change for him to go from uptight, moralistic commodore to devil-may-care selfish rascal-person.
Special effects good. Soundtrack v. v. good.
Length bad. Thought it was overly long, and someone wasn't doing his/her editing job properly. Even though parts of the cannibal scenes were amusing, they kind of, um, served no point. They reunited Jack, Will, and the BP crew, but otherwise did not further the plot at all. I think they should have gotten onto the main plot of Davy Jones a lot sooner.
Will's dad was cool. Davy Jones was actually cool, too. I liked his accent and did feel sorry for him.
And Will...
I've been anti-OB since I was 14, but wow. And now I shall become a Will Turner fangirl. His character's just so cool! His hair rocks! Yay! He's one of the least annoying characters!
Still, I found it very amusing that he was wet for about 75% of the movie, and when the undead pirate people tore off his shirt to give him the five lashes, all I could think of was "FANGIRL MOMENT!!!"
Some of the lines were kinda unfunny and trying to ripoff the successful stuff from CotBP, imo. Like, "Why is the rum always gone?" was rather stupid, and so was "Oh, the heat! *thud*" to a lesser degree.
The kraken came back too many times. Yay, we beat it - no we didn't. Yay, we beat it again - no we didn't. Yay, we really really beat it - no, we just made it angry.
What exactly was with Barbossa coming back? Granted, I expected he would be their new captain, but...didn't he DIE? Not that that ever mattered to Hollywood, but still...
And, well, y'all know a heck of a lot more about PotC:whatever spoilers than I do, but I can't believe for a second that Jack's dead. This is a Disney movie They're not about to seriously kill off their most-loved character...
So yeah, those are my thoughts. Riniel, you have my sympathy - we seem to be the only people who didn't wholeheartedly love it!
But I still did like it, just not love it, and definitely not like it as much as CotBP.

oh my gosh potr, that was a lot...*sighs* i went and saw the movie again last night and i really dont see how anyone could be unhappy with it, pardon my ignorance or w/e, it's the classic bad guy against good guy, with a whole bunch of fish thrown into it.
Finally people that also feel sorry for Davy, now i dont feel like such of a freak, meh i feel like that anyways, ok so who liked Bootstrap?(i loved his starfish!)

Gosh, my head is spinning from all that reading by Pirateoftherings! Woah!
I agree that the movie was long, and that it did used a lot of special effects. The effects were great, but I wished they would have focused on the story more. I gave it like a 4/5 stars on some website, but I think the least it can deserve is a 3.
The Barbossa whole deal? That still questions me. DID HE REALLY DIE??? Did he die in the first one, or did Tia Dalma do something? (I loved Tia Dalma's make up by the way. She looks totally different from the real life actress!) WOW!

Barbossa was shot before the curse was lifted so that might have something to do with it, for all we know, his crew that were killed could come back as well...

Hmm...yeah...but...iono.
I just noticed Davy Jones gives Jack a black spot on his hand...well Bootstrap Bill, but Davy sent him. That usually means death will shortly approach. In real life of a pirate it's on a piece of paper and has terms written on the other side. I'm just thinking that's different... That's what freaks Jack out and so he leaves his hat behind. I loved it when Pintel and Ragetti saw Jack's black spot in Tia Dalma's shack. There like freaking out! Black spot! *spins around*
I just realized something! I thought Liz was flirting with Jack on the ship, because she wanted the release papers. Did the compass point to the release papers?

here's my speech after seeing DMC for the second time. it won't come anywhere close to potr and Arwen's, but... ah, well. here goes.
The entire atmosphere in this movie is decidedly darker than the last. In the last, self-sacrifice and friendship ultimately defeated evil. Here, you're never certain just what is evil and what is good. Everything is gray and in between. Such as...
The East India Trading Company. We've always seen them as an intriguing and somewhat shady business, with Jack coming to blows with them often. But Davey Jones's heart? Such ambition to associate themselves with cruelty so they can rule the seven seas? Their influence in this movie is huge. Where circumstances stand, Britain seems virtually powerless. Either that, or they simply don't care.
Our beloved Jack Sparrow. Sure, we've always known he's egocentric. We've always known that he keeps his true motives to himself. He uses people, he manipulates, he cheats, he lies.... In CotBP, he was without a doubt one of the "good guys." But in DMC, it's not quite so clearly defined. With all he's been through with Will and Elizabeth, how could he cold-bloodedly send Will off to settle his debt? It leaves you to wonder... did he really care about Will at all in CotBP? Or was he simply using him to get his precious ship back? I've never really thought of Jack as powerhungry/ambitious, but I see that in him now. Ambition changes people. He is willing to risk everything - his humanity included - to regain the Black Pearl's former power (he is, as Beckett commented, "a dying breed"). His "sacrifice" at the end is touching, yes, but he had no choice. If you think about it this way: It was not compassion that forced his sacrifice, but lust. When the Kraken rose up to defeat him, he saw his ultimate doom. His bravery was the act of a man who had nothing to lose. His devious but indomitable spirit forced him to pick up his sword and go to the end fighting, not cowering, in a death worthy of the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow.
...which leads us to Elizabeth. For so long she's considered herself a noble, decent woman who would not succumb to pirating. But like Jack said, she wanted to be free. Pirating held a certain tempation for her, a tempation she tried to resist until the very end. She was clever. She played on Jack's lusts. At the very end, she saw no other way to escape. She must have felt something for Jack - that kiss was too passionate for her not to feel something. I don't think it's Jack himself she cares about, but rather the concept of Jack. Jack embodies everything she's always wanted - freedom and the dark side of her own soul. But in end, she held on to a vestige of her nobility. The blow to her conscience forced her to admit that he was, ultimately, "a good man."
Commodore Norrington. The once honorable man who "served others, not merely himself." Yearn for vengeance and fleeing under the harsh law can leave their toll on a man. He resorted to the only escape he knew: Tortuga. A desperate man who has nothing to lose yet is filled with single-minded purpose can be very dangerous. His decision at the end was an act of sheer desperation. He placed his life at the hands of the East India Company to hopefully redeem himself. It clouded his judgement.
The critics are saying things like, "all it is is a preview for the third movie" and "twice the action, half the plot." I think the director wasn't plannng a sequel, because some parts were poorly bridged. But the second movie in itself is supposed to be a bridge to the third. The cliffhanger was cruel, but I like the intrigue. I cheered for Jack when he said, "Hello, beastie" and leaped into doom's waiting jaws. I cheered for Barbossa when his boots first set foot on Tia Dalma's staircase. All in all, it was a magnificent movie and better than the first. Combine a brilliant director, three amazing actors/actress for the lead roles, and Disney's resources and money.

I totally agree^ Just die Kraken!!
Barbosa? Twas such a twisty ending and I must admit I did feel a leap of joy when I saw him, I mean, Davy Jones is such a more hard-to-defeat villain than Barbosa, and then he comes back and I was like "yay barbosa", but, then again, he is supposed to be dead so y'know...
Will somebody please tell me what happens after the credits!!! I missed it!!
And what happened to that woman on jacks crew, the black woman who used to be in love with him or something and who joined his crew in the first movie, ana maria, was it? Anyway, i liked her character so was sad she didn't come back. At first I though Tia was her, she'd just "let herself go" so to speak...
Overall I thought:
Funny
Bit too long
How is Jack supposed to be brought back?
What happens after the credits!?
Where is Ana Maria or whatver she's called!

I saw it with my friends, and we were all laughing at that part (It was wierd. The scene was really sad, yet because of our warped and slightly dirty minds, funny at the same time) Nobody else was laughing.

I never saw the movie as too long, if you can handle the EE of one of the LotR movies, 2 1/2 hours is not that bad. I was wondering about where Annamaria had gotten to...and the Kraken is practiacally impossible to kill, it's a bit like a hydra, you cut off one appendage it grows two more back. It's not like a horse, it just wont die when you snap your fingers. A bit like a Wraith really.
It is much darker and i love the influence of the East India Trading Company, in CotBP you only had the English influence but bringing in some more companies that were real it makes the movie seem like it did happen. And i like the whole idea of Davy's heart being able to control him and the sea or w/e it does...i know that someone is bound to try and sue Disney/Gore Verbinski for the use of Davy Jones because he didnt come up with the name of him or the Flying Dutchman.

It's just a short scene showing the cannibals have the same ceremony they did for Jack, except the dog is sitting on the chair with a crown thingy and a huge bone in his mouth.

Aye it was a good scene, I just wish it could've been longer. The COTBP bonus scene at the end had a good extra 20 seconds of footage.

Wow, PotR, that was an amazing post. I never would have thought of that. I completely agree with you. (<Sorta lame, isn't it? )
LDM-I completely agree with everything you said. (<again, lame...)
yeah, I wish the clip at the end would have been longer and had a spoiler for PotC 3. Hey, maybe it did.
edit: Gawd I'm falling in love with Will/Orlando all over again...sorry, random moment.
