When In RomeIt was cute. Not overly wonderful or overly bad, just fun entertainment.

All the King's Men (1949)
Very, very good film about the rise and fall of a no-body who becomes a politician, makes a lot of promises, is one of the people, becomes state governor and basically turns into the kind of man he spent years fighting against. It was weird as for half the film you cheer the hero and then there's the dreaded "oh, no" moment when YOU can see what he's about to become and then it's even more "oh, no".
In the Heat of the Night
I really like films that deal with racism in modern(ish) America when the main character isn't one to let it go. Sidney Poitier ("they call me MISTER Tibbs") was so great as the Northern super-homicide detective helping out in a supremely racist Southern hick town in the 60's. Rod Steiger was also brillaint as the sort-of racist who comes to respect and appreciate Tibbs and he so deserved his Oscar.
The House on 92nd Street
Really quite groundbreaking semi-documentary of the rise of the FBI's agents during the WWII and one case in particular that saved the secrets for the atom bomb from falling into German hands. There were a lot of real FBI workers used in the film and lots of real footage of German spies, the FBI etc. The room with the filing cabinets full of fingerprints FLOORED me! Amazing how they could find a fingerprint match in 15 minutes back then with this huge machine, which nowadays FBI workers probably laugh at. But it did the job that's all I can say.
Cool Hand Luke
Have I mentioned how much I love Paul Newman's eyes? He was so great in this (he always is) and unusually for me, there were a lot of *artistic* things used for this film that I actually a) noiticed and b) liked. Camera angles that actually HELPED the story rather than said "look at meeee" and symbolic shots that actually WERE symbolic not just someone 40 years later telling people it IS meaningful and if you don't think so you're an idiot. George Kennedy was also brillaint in this, and the Man With No Eyes... EVIL I tell ye. So of course, I liked him.

I just watched Inception, which kinda confused me at first, but when I actually understood it, I found it to be reeeeeeeeaaaally good. So much thought went into that movie! It just... wow. I saw Howl's Moving Castle, too, which was also very good. Anime films ftw! I'm definitely going to be doing some fanart, especially of Howl... He just looks so drawable! I love his hair!

Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides.
Perfectly okay, but nothing remarkable.

UnknownVery good thriller with a good twist in the end. I enjoyed it very much, just like the interaction between Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger. The beauty and the beastHaven't seen it in a long long time, and it was really good to watch an old Classic again. I noticed how good the soundtrack was and even watched a seen I'd never seen before on VHS. The King's SpeechIt was very good and I very much enjoyed it. As I already suspected, the acting of both Colin Firth and Geofrey Rush was outstanding as always and the dialogues were very entertaining. I also loved the soundtrack very much. I'm not sure if it deserved four Oscars though.. The fallI became aware of this movie because Beethoven's 7th symphony was its recurring theme and it's just an amazing movie. The visual effects are stunning, the plot is so intense and touching and the actors are awesome. I really really loved it.
