Ahhhh

A new season has arrived. Tonight was the first performing round, and I was very impressed on the whole. My impressions:
Jeanine and Phillip
Hip Hop, choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon
*Loved this. It was in the same style as Katee and Josh's "No Air" and Chelsie and Mark's "Bleeding Love" last season. They worked very well together, and there was none of the hesitation/uncertainty in their dancing that is so prevalent among the dancers early in the season.
* I thought it was awesome that T&N worked Phillip's style into the dance towards the end. Very nice.
* They were both great, but I could hardly take my eyes off of him.
Asuka and Vitolio
Broadway, choreographed by Tyce DiOrio
*Wasn't blown away. Watching the recap at the end, it was better than I had previously thought, but still... wasn't all that powerful to me. Entertaining, I guess, but not really anything special.
*I liked him more than her
Karla and Jonathan
Cha-Cha, choreographed by Tony Meredith
*There was great personality, but the dance... wasn't great.
*I think he's better, even though the judges were praising her more.
Randi and Evan
Jazz, choreographed by Tyce DiOrio
* Really liked their dance. They didn't have that hesitation either, and worked well together. Dance was very good and enjoyable.
Paris and Tony
Hip Hop, choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon
* I rather liked it, though the judges weren't crazy about it. It was pretty cool.
* I think I liked the dance better than the people that danced it, though they make a nice couple.
Caitlin and Jason
Bollywood, choreographed by... the same dude that did last year's Bollywood
* They did a great job. I was comparing it to Josh and Katee's version last year, and while I still prefer their version, Caitlin and Jason did a very good job. Very entertaining.
* She kind of lost her oomph in the middle, but picked it back up to finish the dance.
* They both did great, but my eyes did go to her more.
Janette and Brandon
Foxtrot, choreographed by Louis van Amstel (score to me for realizing he's Dutch!

His last name gives it away)
*Ok, so in SYTYCD, the Foxtrot is one of the "kiss of death" dances, because it doesn't get many votes (same with Disco, Quick Step, and a couple of others). They did a nice job, but Foxtrot always feels kinda... blah to me.
* Nice personality, lines, very graceful
Ashley and Kupono
Jazz, choreographed by Wade Robson
* Very interesting, very different. I was intrigued by it. They actually reminded me more of Storm Troopers than crash test dummies, but oh well.
* They both did a good job, nice couple
Melissa and Ade
Contemporary, choreographed by Mandy Moore
* Really pretty, and her being a ballerina lends a wonderful grace and beauty to the dance
* Nice couple, enjoyable, they did a good job
Kayla and Max
Samba, choreographed by Louis van Amstel
* Loved it. Very sexy, entertaining, fun to watch.
* There were a few parts that kind of lacked firepower, but on the whole it was very good!
So, my ranking of the dances:
1. Jeanine and Phillip's Hip Hop
2. Kayla and Max's Samba
3. Caitlin and Jason's Bollywood
4. Randi and Evan's Jazz
5. Paris and Tony's Hip Hop
6. Ashley and Kupono's Jazz
7. Melissa and Ade's Contemporary
8. Karla and Jonathan's Cha-Cha
9. Janette and Brandon's Foxtrot
10. Asuka and Vitolio's Broadway
As for the individual dancers, my favorites (in no specific order):
Phillip, Kayla, Max, Randi, Evan, Jason, Jeanine, Caitlin, Kupono, Ashley, Melissa
I sorta like Paris, Tony, Ade, Karla, Jonathan, Janette, Vitolio, and Brandon.
I'm not really caring for Asuka. Don't ask why, because I don't think I can explain it. I guess I've gotta have a grudge against someone?
So, I'm hoping (though not sure if) Asuka will go home. As for the guys... not sure. It will depend on the solo dancing. But I think the bottom three couples will be:
Asuka and Vitolio
Janette and Brandon
Either Paris and Tony or Karla and Jonathan
