so I was walking around the bookstore the other day and, lo and behold, I picked up a copy of Inkheart with its new cover version and stamped on it in big letters are the words: "Soon to be a major motion picture."
I nearly fainted. (ok, not really, but you get the picture)
for those of you who are interested, I went to confirm it on Google and here it is: http://childrensbooks.about.com/b/a/069764.htm
let's celebrate

*bounces up and down excitedly*
New Line's bought the rights, I think they're hoping for a spring '07 release... the rough draft of the script isn't supposed to be finished till this spring though, or so I've heard You can see more here: CountingDown.com.
Apparently Ms. Funke would really like to have Brendan Fraser play Mo, and Viggo Mortensen play Dustfinger... what do you guys think? I don't know about Brendan Fraser, but I think having Viggo as Dustfinger is a wonderful idea

Inkheart is one of my favorite books and finally it's going to be a movie. Anyone know when it's going to be released?

Reviving this thread - I was browsing around and it seems Inkheart is due for release March 19, 2008. That's, like, seven months! Brendan Fraser as Mo, I believe, and Paul Bettany as Dustfinger - and Andy Serkis as Capricorn! I dunno, what do you guys think about him as Capricorn? I'm sure he'll do a good job, but I kinda pictured Capricorn as...different. Anyway, Helen Mirren as Elinor, which should be pretty good, and Eliza Bennett as Meggie. (Does anyone else instantly think of Elizabeth Bennett from P&P on seeing that name?) And another surprising one - Sienna Guillory as Resa. I dunno if I'll be able to stop thinking of her as Arya So...yeah. Thoughts? My brother is insanely excited. I hope they do it well.

^(I believe Eliza Bennett was probably named Elizabeth for that very reason. But I could be wrong.)
I'm really excited and really scared at the same time. I'm afraid to get too excited because I got all pumped up for the Eragon movie and they let me down horribly. But since Ms. Funke's actually involved with it (not to mention New Line's doing it, I think) maybe it'll be good.

I didn't like the books much, but I think I want to see the movie. Maybe they'll have a better ending.
I just find Cornelia Funke's endings to be really bad.

Yes, I heard about this just a few days ago. *facepalm* I'm so behind the times on everything - anywho, I'm glad they're getting Serkis to play Capricorn! He deserves more big roles, and I have full confidence that he will do stunningly in this role. Oh yes, and if you haven't already seen them, you really should check out the movie pictures here.

Ooooo, thank you, FM! Those are pretty cool. I'm not entirely sure whether I like Mo and Dustfinger, but I think they'll grow on me. Meggie and Farid and Elinor are pretty good. The Black Jackets are cool but I wish there was a picture of Serkis and Capricorn because, much as I like him, I'm a little dubious of him for the role.

I know i've read the book, but I simply can't remember it. I will have to re-read it...
But anyways... it looks like a good movie!

Wow, their making it into a movie? I really didn't like the book, not one bit. So I'm interested to see how the movie comes out. andy Serkis as Capricorn? I imagined someone big and burly and able to scare the plink out of you by just being on screen. Andy doesn't exactly do that for me.

Well, Capricorn wasn't technically big and burly... he was described as medium stature and colorless. Regardless, I have full confidence in Serkis' versatile acting skills... since of late I've become one of his adoring fans.
Dustfinger... meh. I don't entirely like the actor they got to play Dustfinger... Too me, Dustfinger had this certain element of charm that actor lacks... but I guess maybe he can pull it off?
As for the books... I just read them a couple of weeks ago!! Our stupid library hadn't even got them yet until last month... but anyway, I loved them. Unlike Funke's book The Thief Lord, which I dislike for its rushed ending, these captured my attention much better.

I haven't finished Inkspell yet, but Inkheart was pretty good. The length of it almost killed me tho! I really want to see the movie - I hope it will be better than the books though. Cornelia sorta dragged things out too long for my liking...
Aww, I would have loved to see Viggo as Dustfinger!! I haven't heard of the guy they got to play him, but I'll probably like him anyway.
